Corbyn at the Pink News awards last night. Ridiculous. As if life isn't complicated enough without pushing the idea that EVERYONE should introduce their pronouns and remember each others, whatever they may be!

So pretentious, I know many gay people who will be cringing at this nonsense. Does Pink News exist to support or embarrass LGBT people?

This will definitely connect Corbyn back to the working classes. Hmm I'm a lifelong Labour voter, but sod it, I will vote Boris this time. Yes yes, I know of his many flaws, but if Lib Dems or Labour get in this stuff is just going to get completely bonkers (plus other reasons)

This would only not be patronising and tokenistic virtue signalling, if Corbyn started every speech with his own pronouns. But course he fucking doesn’t! Because that would be farcical.

Corbyn does not have dysphoria and doesn’t care how he is addressed, nobody GAF what his pronouns are.

Even if I had gender dysphoria I am fairly sure I would rather that the powerful grown-ups who felt fine, were busy trying to use their efforts to get me some decent support.... not posturing on a podium offering up their pronouns.

I’ll assume everybody in the audience laughed when he said that because obviously it’s funny- everyone already knows his pronouns. We still all know as a society who is really a man or woman, the rest is about fear, politeness and misguided indulgent ‘kindness’ or ‘sensitivity’, performed by people who are happy to give away the rights of others for fear of being chastised, put into the out-group, or doing it for pleasure of the little warm glow of getting approval from the in-group, when they publicly perform the pronoun article of faith in front of the right audience. It’s that kind of in-group grooming, tribal behaviour that is right up Corbyn’s street. Creepy.

On the upside, the more that the actual grown ups who have no skin in this game start doing this nonsense publicly, it will become uncool very quickly. That will help to put off the proportion of youngsters who are only dabbling and attention seeking, which can only be a good thing for them.

So on balance I hope this catches on. Grin

I told my son who is on the Autistic spectrum. He didn't stop giggling for 5 minutes because he thought it must be a joke that an old man with a beard would be called anything other than he.

So, um, yeah. Down with the kids, Jezza. Pfft.

Ffsnosexallowed · 17/10/2019 09:49

We'll I'm glad he cleared that up, it's been a mystery until now.

DickKerrLadies · 17/10/2019 09:50

Yeah we all know the leader of the Labour Party is a man

The Labour Party has never had a leader who is a woman

This is very true.

It's all well and good the TRAs trying to pretend we're just a handful of right-wing women with a load of sock accounts, but it ignores the fact that there's a lot of women unwilling to vote Labour at the moment.

I can't vote Tory. Not because of Boris, not even because of the Brexit shitshow but because of the last 10 years of Tory government. George Osbourne's smug face. The renaming of things to make it look like they were doing something (minimum wage, free education for pre-schoolers). IDS cheering universal credit. UC only seems less fucked up because we have Brexit to compare it to and because no-one actually gives a shit about the people suffering because of it. Even the Labour party only care about UC as a stick to beat the Tories with.

But yeah, dismiss us as right-wing bigots. That'll get Labour elected...

NellieEllie · 17/10/2019 09:51

Pathetic, pathetic, pathetic. There is nothing sadder than a grown-up pandering to something they don’t believe in because they think it’s cool, or “politically correct“. (Never have I used that phrase before, but it’s spot on here.)
He knows this is ridiculous but he doesn’t have the backbone.
Just a weak idiot.

Anonymouse99 · 17/10/2019 10:09

Ffs. I’m definitely a socialist labour supporter and had high hopes when Corbyn originally became leader but this is bollocks. Who can I vote for? I want a left wing party that recognised biological reality without perpetuating sexist stereotypes. Is that too much to ask for?

Dexra · 17/10/2019 10:18

It's not just the ridiculous ideology that pisses me off. It's the wankery of saying "my pronouns are..." They're not yours! You can say the pronouns you use are "I" and "me" and you can say the pronouns you would prefer other use to refer to you are "she" and "her," but beyond that...
That annoying Nish guy on the Mash Report was saying that Sam Smith's pronouns are no one else's business but his, but if you're giving other people third person pronouns to describe you, obviously that makes it their business.

7Worfs · 17/10/2019 10:23

No fool like an old fool.

This however -

“I recently went to the science museum in Boston and every speaker and demonstrator did this”

absolutely terrifies me.

LangCleg · 17/10/2019 10:24

Labour's going to lose the next election.

And the Tories, as I do keep saying, are led by a libertarian deregulator in Boris Johnson, who will see absolutely no problem in legislating in favour of bourgeois male sexual rights - which is what queer theoretical extremist genderism is.

Our only hope is public opinion. Without a critical mass of loud public opinion against this, we're fucked.

Corbyn is a twat and does woke, twattish things.
Sure his mates in Hamas give their pronouns when they meet someone

VickyEadieofThigh · 17/10/2019 10:31

Corbyn is a twat and does woke, twattish things.

It's even worse than that. He's also a complete dullard who lacks any kind of intellectual rigour that I require in a party leader and potential PM.

FamilyOfAliens · 17/10/2019 11:36

I read this on here recently:

Best response to being asked your pronouns? "Don't mind. Say what you see." The terror on their faces is highly amusing.

zanahoria · 17/10/2019 11:52

did he release blue balloons?

2BthatUnnoticed · 17/10/2019 13:44

Prick news is a hate group. But the pronouns thing in this context doesn’t bother me. It’s a trans organisation and this has become part of trans culture it seems.

Its kind of like an atheist having dinner with Christians, and bowing their head during Grace.

They don’t believe in God and may think saying Grace is ridiculous, but on a human level they are just showing respect for their friends.

I never “say my pronouns” but if others want to, no problem.

DoctorTwo · 17/10/2019 13:47

His lack of a decent education really shows

Adams Grammar was really well thought of back in the day @TottieandMarchpane

DoctorTwo · 17/10/2019 13:48

IMO personal pronouns are un beau de lollox

nettie434 · 17/10/2019 14:18

As others say, the hounding of women MPs, the lack of concern about all women shortlists. No need to tell us your pronouns, Jezza. Your adjectives are misogynistic and ineffectual.

CarolDanvers · 17/10/2019 14:20

As a lifelong labour voter I could never vote labour with "HIM" in charge. Why doesn't he just fuck off and give the party a fighting chance?

Needmoresleep · 17/10/2019 14:26

Perhaps it has taken him this long to make the decision.

Other decisions, like his stance on Brexit, will have to wait.

It is embarrasing that Corbyn panders to neoliberal autoritarianism.

Neoliberalism is an extreme rightwing ideology, and Labour plans to force people to comply with it.

I get that some people are rightwing, and choose to not give a damn about disadvantaged groups of people.

I also get that a lot of people have never learnt anything about structural analysis of inequality and oppression.

But a self id’ed socialist leader of the labour Party damn well should understand about structural inequality and be able to recognise that identitarianism and viewing womanhood as a monetised consumer good is as rightwing as it gets.

He should recognise neoliberalism on speed when he sees it.

The man is not only a misogynist, he is also an unintelligent knob.

Michelleoftheresistance · 17/10/2019 16:09

Oh fgs Jeremy.

Frankly I'll pick the pronouns I use when mentioning you, and my personal choice right now is 'muppet' and 'anything at all but Labour'.

HorseWithNoFucksToGive · 17/10/2019 16:13

I'm currently choosing to use wanky/wanker for Jeremy's fucking pronouns.

HollowTalk · 17/10/2019 16:18

What I don't understand is this. If eg someone like Aimee C thinks that when someone looks at them they think they're a woman, why the need to inform them of their pronoun? Surely it's only if their gender is queried that people would ask for a pronoun, and that could be considered very rude.

I think we've all met someone non-trans where we've wondered for a split second whether they're male or female. To directly ask them how they identify could be really embarrassing for them.
