Brilliant :) annoyed at how few ive heard of although I suspect it would be similar if they listed the top 100 men

I remember learning about the Russian revolution at school, and about propaganda and I wondered why people believed the obvious lies.

But now I see a title like that and I don't believe it. Because even if someone had produced a list of 100 females, that wouldn't be allowed, would it? Even an accidental omission of males in a list of women would be a Very Bad Thing needed 'correction'.

It's getting the same way when viewing crime statistics. I have no idea how many female prisoners there are in the UK. I should be able to just look at the numbers, but I can't believe them.

Pity party over.

YY to Simone Biles and KJT for awesome displays of physical and mental strength.

Martina Navratilova

I'm sure I'll think of more.

Esther Duflo won a Nobel prize for Economic Sciences and she isn't there.

But there are two transgender activists (Owl's visage jumped out at me despite never having seen them before).

No classical musicians either despite music being a profound influence in our lives. I suppose it's just not trendy enough.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/10/2019 11:26

Esther Duflo won a Nobel prize for Economic Sciences and she isn't there.

Tbf, the list was probably compiled before that was announced.

Yay, Nobels. Is she the only women to win one of the science prizes this year? (I suppose economics counts as a science).

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 16/10/2019 11:31

Ahh the BBC’s 98 women of 2019!

Do they have a 98 men of 2019 list or do they get a nice round 100?

Also vote for a MN top 100 women.

I think Megan Rapinoe should be on this year’s list. Those fabulous images of her unashamed exultation were inspirational.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 16/10/2019 12:15

Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Because, you know?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 16/10/2019 12:22

Megan Rapinoe - who I believe benefited from a woman's sports scholarship (as did her sister) - who now say that sport should be mixed-sex. Talk about pulling up the ladder after you.

everythingthelighttouches · 16/10/2019 12:35

I would add maya forstater to that list

LarryDuff · 16/10/2019 12:47

Naga Munchetty

LarryDuff · 16/10/2019 12:48

Greta Thunberg

Sarah Field, Leeds City Councillor who launched the Declaration on Women's Sex Based Rights in May with an absolutely blistering speech.

LonginesPrime · 16/10/2019 13:05

Why is every other person on the list defined by their job or the work they have done apart from Lauren Mahon, who is listed by her medical history (cancer survivor) instead of her achievements?

Why not say broadcaster/campaigner, which is what it describes in her blurb?

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 16/10/2019 13:26

For classical music it'd have to be Dr Shirley Thompson? She's just been given an OBE for being a bit of a smasher.

Didactylos · 16/10/2019 13:27

Karen Ingala Smith of Counting Dead Women

fidgetspinner555 · 16/10/2019 14:18

Sonia Poulton deffo!

deydododatdodontdeydo · 16/10/2019 14:28

Jessi Combs, American racing driver who was killed trying to beat her own land speed record?

MockersthefeMANist · 16/10/2019 14:37

In sport, a word in favour of Sarah Taylor, best wicket-keeper standing up of either sex, now officially retired from international duty owing to her anxiety issues.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 16/10/2019 14:48

Bernardine Evaristo - joint winner of the Booker prize for Girl, Woman Other.
Stephanie Davies - Arai - Trangender Trend
Dina Asher-Smith - athlete - x 2 gold medal winner in the IAAF championships

CriticalCondition · 16/10/2019 15:02

Nicola Williams of Fair Play For Women.

Dangerfloof · 16/10/2019 15:15

Maybe we should have a MN list of 100 inspiring women who are actually inspiring
Can I add (haven't seen it anywhere but also haven't looked very hard) if any of the women are Leeds lasses add them here. You can nominate as many women as you like. Criteria, lived/worked in Leeds for 1 year.
I nominated nicola Adams already. Done no more research yet. But I only found it yesterday.

Dangerfloof · 16/10/2019 15:15

Here, sigh.

Depressing, but she’s from the US, so perhaps she will change her mind, given time.
