In-fighting within the GC feminist movement

I've been following/ participating in the GC feminist movement for about a year, which makes me a newbie compared to many of you.

One thing that stands out uncomfortably is the constant and prevalent in-fighting. This refers to both the men and women in the movement.

I know that none of us are doing this professionally, so we don't have to act professional. I also think that everyone is entitled to their personal opinions, and they can express themselves however they wish.

But for me, the in-fighting is really off-putting and upsetting. It makes me want to step away from the whole situation.

I won't name names/ organizations as I don't want this thread to become a "he said/ she said". I started this thread to see if anyone else had similar feelings and wanted to talk them through?

I have seen nothing of the sort. You would need to offer some evidence, rather than an unsupported statement.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 13/10/2019 20:08

Well it isn't one "movement", it's a bunch of people who have concerns over several different areas of an ideology, Be it rights of women, Rights of children, exploitation of children and vulnerable adults, Basic freedom like the right of free speech and making sure current law is actually used correctly.

Nobody will agree on anything other than that there is a massive issue around a current ideology in many areas.

lionheart · 13/10/2019 20:09

Can you be more specific?

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 13/10/2019 20:10

Were you under some impression that there is an organised movement happening?

To put it basically we are not "one", we are many many people with questions and concerns.

ElloBrian · 13/10/2019 20:10

Would like to know what this is about tbh.

MIdgebabe · 13/10/2019 20:12

Well I do sometimes see posts that seem unnecessarily nasty, but I also wonder if they are genuine GC women or just stirrers.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 13/10/2019 20:12

This is a cross party issue, affecting women and children from all walks of life and backgrounds - a massive amount of people. It's somewhat unsurprising there will be some disagreement.

TheAlternativeTentacle · 13/10/2019 20:12

Yes there is infighting and it is really painful to read when you want to support everyone standing up for women.

WineGummyBear · 13/10/2019 20:13

Nothing to get off my chest, thanks for asking.

2Rebecca · 13/10/2019 20:14

Considering women are 50% of the population it's not surprising we don't agree. There are Tories and communists who hold GC views. I've not seen this awful infighting though, just open discussion which is fine. We aren't clones, we don't belong to a cult. Debate is a good thing.

GlitterToast · 13/10/2019 20:14

This really wasn’t a result of one moment. But yes, I did see something on Twitter tonight which I thought was unnecessary. However, I don’t wish to point it out and refer to specific people as the thread will end up being all about them.

Yes, you’re right. This isn’t a collective movement; there’s thousands of people from all walks of life involved. You can’t make that harmonious.

We aren't twitter....

We are not spokes people for anyone but ourselves...

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 13/10/2019 20:17

You can’t make that harmonious.

Personally i wouldn't want to, I don't want everyone singing the same well rehearsed turn, individuality and discussion around opinions is good.

AnyFucker · 13/10/2019 20:19

Why are you talking about men ? Men cannot be feminists. Perhaps that is what is causing the discord you have supposedly seen ?

JoyceJeffries · 13/10/2019 20:21

Never go on twitter because it’s slurry.

GlitterToast · 13/10/2019 20:27

I mentioned men because if I don’t it will look like I’m saying that this is catty female behavior, when in fact a lot of this in-fighting is started by male feminist allies.

It seems that some of you don’t see it, or we are seeing things differently. That’s fine. I guess we have to agree to disagree this time.

I started this thread because it is upsetting me. I realize that I’m probably being over-sensitive, but, at the same time, I would like to talk it through.

What in-fighting? The only good thing to come out of the whole transgender situation is that I've met loads of fantastic GC women on line and in the flesh and have a new social circle as a result.

What in-fighting are you experiencing? Who are the men who are involved? The groups I've been involved with are women-only and frankly having men involved would just complicate things. Not saying that positive support from men isn't welcome, but this is something the sisters are doing for themselves.

AnyFucker · 13/10/2019 20:30

I don't consider that men qualify as feminist, so it's just down to men stirring the shit then.

Move along, nothing to see here.

AnyFucker · 13/10/2019 20:32

Op, are you upset that men are diluting the message or that men are not being sufficiently applauded for their feminist credentials ?

Spit it the fuck out.

GlitterToast · 13/10/2019 20:36

My point is not about men; it’s about everyone!

I am upset about the in-fighting (from both men and women) in the GC movement. Perhaps I shouldn’t have used “feminist”, but the GC movement has strong feminist roots.

I think you need to give examples. I do occasionally see people's falling out, but just move on and concentrate on the issues.

I mostly interact with women about feminism, so don't know what happens with male allies.

AnyFucker · 13/10/2019 20:38

You made a point about mentioning men.

tilder · 13/10/2019 20:41

I see discussion. Sometimes robust. Sometimes disagreement. That's fine. Its not a political party, with leader, formal structure and a manifesto.

A group of individuals discussing feminist issues from a broadly common perspective. Am glad it's not full of sheep, I learn more from the robust discussion than I would in an echo chamber.

Op, are you looking for somebody to identify arguments for you? How odd. Just what would you like to talk through?

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 13/10/2019 20:42

There is no GC movement.

AnyFucker · 13/10/2019 20:44

I don't think you are coming from any place genuine, op.
