Mumsnet will always stand in solidarity with minority communities. We don’t tolerate transphobic comments and will delete any when they are flagged to us. But we do also believe strongly in free speech. 1/3

The discussion of gender self-id and what that might mean for very hard-won women’s rights, as well as the rapidly growing number of children exploring gender identity issues, is contentious. 2/3

We know some people would like us to simply censor this entire debate but a similar number think we censor too much. We’re committed to allowing respectful discussion of an issue that is of particular interest to parents. 3/3

The usual suspects pile on, but I think the ratios look very good.

Hatred comes in many degrees. A trans woman doesn't need to be murdered. I've seen them bullied and beaten up by my very own eyes. A woman minding her own bloody business at a bar, just trying to order a late drink like the rest of us. Funnily enough it was the men who were bullying her and hitting her. It's unsettling to see women behave similarly, even if with some pretence of decorum.....

TruthOnTrial · 15/10/2019 12:07

LifeonVenus

Who of you here have actually directly had YOUR rights impacted negatively by this 'movement'?

All of us and our DC. If you're not bithered that is your freedom of choice and speech, but don't try to turn our speech into transphobia, because no matter how hard you try, it just isnt.

It isn't emotive or expressed in the emotive exoressions you have used to try to demonstrate your point, because this simply isnt about transphobia.

There is very real fear, because its acknowledged in law that women and dc do need protecting. That opening spaces to a male body puts women at risk. Its a fact. That putting paedophiles into a womens prison where they are given free access to babies, just because they gender id as a woman, dear es not remove their fundamental paedophilic behaviour. Hence the need for women/children to be kept in their own spaces protected from violent assault.

Being black, or any other minority group is not the same. Its not a parallel in other words. Yes, there was fear around, but we as the group woman encompasses black women, and its insulting to push that narrative.

It doesn't encompass the group man though, who, likely in part due to harmful stereotypes, do exact violence against women (over 90% male on female).

Its also extremely harmful to distort these figures through conflation of sex and gender, because again leaves women open to actual dangers.

Who supports access to women, and removal of their protections in law? Who exactly wants this to happen, as our brothers and husbands are not, not least the ones I know, they don't want their children to have to go into a toilet with urinals, and a prison with male.sex offenders.
Who wants that? Really ask yourself how that increases safety, and manages crime and rehabilitation?

I'm glad that MN is becoming known for its trans discussions. It's great that women know they have a place to come to discuss that, and many other things.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 15/10/2019 12:07

You think women talking about their rights is the same as men beating people up?

Yikes

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 15/10/2019 12:08

Funnily enough it was the men who were bullying her and hitting her.

And yet here you are shouting at us instead of them.

LifeonVenus · 15/10/2019 12:08

Pile on me as I'm the lone wolf in a field of sheep. But I'm not the only one who thinks the same.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 15/10/2019 12:08

Funnily enough it was the men who were bullying her and hitting her
Well yes most violent crime is caused by men.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 15/10/2019 12:09

Dunno that wolf/sheep is really the analogy that you want to go for here tbh.

Ereshkigal · 15/10/2019 12:09

Funnily enough it was the men who were bullying her and hitting her.

Awful. Why is this male on male violence anything to do with women speaking about women's rights?

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 15/10/2019 12:09

"Hydrogenation - a science word that sounds good"

Quite!

TruthOnTrial · 15/10/2019 12:10

So Life you make a case for mtf trans to be in a separate space from men, and women then.

Findumdum1 · 15/10/2019 12:10

Funnily enough it was the men who were bullying her and hitting her.

Exactly! So take it up with those men!!

And how is discussing trans people and the effect of the TRAs on women and vulnerable children the same as beating someone up? Stop being ridiculous.

Next you'll be trotting out the vile hate speech stuff and the fake suicide stats.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 15/10/2019 12:11

I think the "a" on your keyboard might be broken venus

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 15/10/2019 12:11

Oh dear, Life's ragetyping appears to have broken Life's phone.

SorryAuntLydia · 15/10/2019 12:11

Sorry LifeonVenus you ‘bullied and beat’ someone with your EYES? Wow no wonder you are so ANGRY. Can I recommend an eye test.

And ‘funnily enough’ you say it was the MEN who were violent ... well dur... that’s kinda what we’ve been saying...
But your obvious solution to male violence is to remove a woman’s right to free speech. You are one very confused individual.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 15/10/2019 12:11

*lifeonvenue

men become women how?

please explain

LifeonVenus · 15/10/2019 12:12

It wasn't the 'male' trans woman causing trouble. It was the very respectable white young men.

And MN is I'm sure a very respectable hot bed of white middle class women.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 15/10/2019 12:12

Also I now have Life on Mars stuck in my head, so thanks for that.

Michelleoftheresistance · 15/10/2019 12:12

'Pile on' - that translates as trying to have a conversation with you.

You can't expect to come on a forum, dump a lot of hyperbolic ranting and criticism, and have no one answer you, surely? You're working quite hard to be provoking here, so why complain when you get the reaction you came here for?

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 15/10/2019 12:13
Findumdum1 · 15/10/2019 12:13

This is too easy, I'm off for lunch

Wonder if Life will be finished flouncing by the time I'm back.

JoyceJeffries · 15/10/2019 12:13

Pop over to a male dominated website and boss them about.
