Upfield (manufacturers of Flora marg, and Proactiv) don't want Mumsnet to buy their products any more

They've made the decision to 'no longer work with Mumsnet' because they want to 'treat everyone equally' because of their 'values'.

By this I'm sure they mean any woman who uses this site should definitely NOT buy their products. That would be an unpleasant association between mumsnet and their values that would be too much to bear.

Here is a helpful list of their products that they don't want in any way associated with Mumsnet:

Country rock
Flora
Rama
BlueBand
Lätta
Flora Proactiv
Becel
I can't believe it's not butter

Please don't sully their brands with any association from you, you horrid mumsnetters. Your money is tainted with unacceptable values.

Good luck with that then. I await the rebranding with a rainbow unicorn on it.

MagneticSingularity · 12/10/2019 14:14

I’ve never had any difficulty believing it’s not butter; I have no problem believing the others aren’t butter either and when real butter is an actual thing why would anyone buy them? It’s probably an empty gesture for me to boycott these products because I’ve never bought them anyway and most aren’t available in the USA but I’ll check everything I do buy to make sure it’s not associated with this company. I stand with REAL BUTTER.

Apollo440 · 12/10/2019 14:17

They are probably trying to peddle their crap products to vegans who they guess are unquestionably woke. Stopped using marg years ago but I'll make sure to avoid anything they make should the need arise.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 12/10/2019 14:35

I used to buy Flora for DC because I didnt want to share my Lurpak thought it was healthier and I didn't want them to get addicted to Lurpak like I am.

Now, thanks to Upfield's tweet, I now know a) what is in flora and b) that they don't like women talking feminism, I will now upgrade DC to Lurpak.

ThriceNope · 12/10/2019 14:51

Complained - idiots. I did say I looked forward to being treated equally (otherwise their stated values could be said to be conditional) but I won't hold my breath.

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 12/10/2019 15:10

I use Stork for cake making, won't be using it any more.

Saucery · 12/10/2019 15:18

I can always tell when someone has used Stork for their buttercream. I’ll judge them even more now.

HandsOffMyRights · 12/10/2019 15:18

Not sure if this has been posted about Upfield in talks with Violife

Funny if they think that vegans will vote for genetic modification of children.

Wheat2Harvest · 12/10/2019 16:04

I've just had a look at mimmymum's Twitter.

No surprises there.

And no buying of the products listed either.

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 12/10/2019 21:18

In Tesco a huge tub of Flora is on special at a quid, still wasn't tempted.

PencilsInSpace · 12/10/2019 22:03

News travels fast MrsPellegrino. They can't give the slimey crap away.

MindTheMinotaur · 12/10/2019 22:49

Does anyone else remember that ages ago there was a thread in chat where someone mentioned they had left a margerine spread out in the garden. It didn't decompose and nothing, no bird, animal or insect would touch it. That crap is already boycotted by most of the food chain.

StrangeLookingParasite · 13/10/2019 00:02

Imagining TRAs loyally scooping spoonfuls of marg into their faces to support the brand.

Beurk.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 13/10/2019 01:36

I don’t use margarine, but in the supermarket the other day, I picked up a tub of Flora brand which advertised itself as “plant based”. I thought it might be handy if I was baking for vegan friends, except a major ingredient was milk solids. Perhaps it just identified as vegan?

I don’t know if you can get Copha in UK supermarkets? It’s an old product which is mostly coconut oil, useful in baking and for making chocolate crackles.

For vegan mumsnetters. I’ve not made these, but the blogger is very serious about her baking and flavour.

Didn't this happen a while ago with another brand? The MRAs said,
"Dey puld support cuz MN is Transfobes..."
MN came along and said,
"No, just that the contract ended actually..."

I forget who it was with tho.

You remember correctly that it was all bollocks and spin by TRAs and fell flat on it’s face.
It did produce a rather punny thread though...

DeRigueurMortis · 13/10/2019 02:21

Crap brand, crap ethics....

I'd like to say I could boycott them but I never purchased any of their products anyway.

I'm sure there's a load of rainbow activities that are suddenly buying Flora Hmm

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 13/10/2019 02:36

I'm sure there's a load of rainbow activities that are suddenly buying Flora.

I’m not sure, from a health perspective, that that’s a good idea. The intersection of chemically processed oil-type ingredients and hormone-altered bodies might be a recipe for illness.

I just read this very sad account of a young girl’s transition and detransition, and the weight-gain and pre-diabetes was a clear signal that her body wasn’t coping.

I would think that if you put your body under so much stress, the least you could do for it would be eschew ersatz food products.

BrendasUmbrella · 13/10/2019 02:45

I know it's not the point but I stopped buying it for my family after the "new improved taste" which triggered awful memories of the St Ivel Gold muck in the 80s. Margarine should taste bland, not manage to overpower recipes with its nastiness. I hope their new customer base of trans-activists enjoy it...

whattodo2019 · 13/10/2019 07:32

Flora is absolutely disgusting any, butter or lurpack is much better

Aethelthryth · 13/10/2019 07:40

Fake stuff identifying as butter. Somehow fitting

meridaofthefabulousredhair · 13/10/2019 07:52

I don't buy flora anyway (margarine type crap 🤮)

PlaceYourItemInTheBaggingArea · 13/10/2019 09:04

@DancelikeEmmaGoldman I've just read the link you posted, how sad, that poor woman!

ZenNudist · 13/10/2019 09:13

Thing is most people on here hate margarine anyway so won't be the target audience. They aren't losing customers from the butter dish crowd.

I dont want to eat butter. I use it for cooking but as heart disease runs in the family i dont think its a good idea to increase saturated fat intake. Plus buttery spreads are much easier to bang out sandwiches or on toast.

I wont be buying my favourite flora buttery anymore. I resent companies scoring woke credentials from jumping on some badly thought out bandwagon. I sympathise with trans people but support womens rights too. I dont hate anyone and I'm not an activist of any sort.

I also dont boycott products but in this case its put me off buying.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 13/10/2019 09:18

For people who won’t buy any longer - tell them. Let them know because you can bet your boots there will be hundreds of ‘thank you‘s’ posted/sent from literally a single number of people who are enjoying the attention.
