Online if you want to take it. You translate the drag phrase.
How nice to see that those putting it together didn't think that "fishy" meaning a very feminine drag queen may be offensive....

& why aren’t fish called woman-y? Just musing

Yes, indeed some women have beautiful bodies and are agile and graceful creatures. Like everyone knows many fish are.

Waterl00 · 04/10/2019 13:43

of course it is a revolting insult. I know of straight men that have used it and think it is hilarious so it is not just gay men.

The problem queer identity fools have is they are so slavishly adoring of all things queer they can't imagine that there are things they don't know or understand about life.

TinselAngel · 04/10/2019 13:47

FYI - Feminism is not for women only. It's is about equality between all genders.

Now you're being silly.

You’ve overplayed your hand there Grin

BeMoreMagdalen · 04/10/2019 13:56

It was used at my school about girls by boys so homophobic it'd make your toes curl. It was disgustingly misogynistic when they used it and it's disgustingly misogynistic when used by gay men too. The common denominator here is men using a derogatory term about women. Who are the people feminism is for, not men. Jaysus it's like talking to a toddler.

Datun · 04/10/2019 14:24

Sharing these posts with my work colleagues, they think you're a crease

Work colleagues 😆

Definitions of feminism:

The advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes (Oxford English Dictionary).

An organised effort to give women the same economic, social and political rights as men. (Cambridge dictionary).

1 : the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes
2 : organized activity on behalf of women's rights and interests (Merriam Webster).

Feminism is the belief and aim that women should have the same rights, power, and opportunities as men. (Collins dictionary).

Hope that helps, @Mac1990.

We were chatting about this show at work the other day.

One colleague said that although he didn't like drag queens (he is gay and reckoned that a lot of gay men don't, and find them a bit scary) there was one act he loves on that he's seen on TV and that 'she' was brilliant.

He showed me a clip of her singing and dancing on YouTube. It was actually a woman (of the Bette Midler 'show stopper' variety).

For your information there are quite a number here who know full well that feminism is about the struggle for the dignity and respect of women; the female sex. Gender is a social construct - and the erosion of rigid gendered roles and stereotypes is the aim. 'Genders' do not exist in material reality - only in the mind. Sexes, however, is real.

Equality of value, respect, dignity of the two sexes.

Justhadathought · 04/10/2019 16:23

the two sexes, however, are real

Anyone else getting unsolicited DMs from someone who wants to ‘chat’ about drag? (Creepy imo). It’s a forum - why would I want to —get lectured— chat with a stranger via DMs? What don’t they want to say in public?

Mac1990 · 04/10/2019 17:45

Not today Satan

I once contributed to a thread arguing about what order to put your underwear on and got DMs from some creepy fucker about suspenders urgh Envy. MN deleted them.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 04/10/2019 18:09

Why would they care what slang strangers use on social media?

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 04/10/2019 18:26

Ive like Ru Paul for a very long time

And ive watched a fair bit of drag race but the i find the ‘fishy’ comments dreadful, very jarring

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 04/10/2019 18:27

Lack of anything interesting going on in their life?

Quaffy · 04/10/2019 18:57

Honestly mac this is all so random and has nothing to do with the issue at hand which is use of the word “fishy”.

testing987654321 · 04/10/2019 19:00

There have been a few quotes I've been dropping at the request of students/colleagues to see what your reactions are.

I don't think I can come up with a better definition of "not in the spirit" than this. Not that I would report you as that's not what I am about.

But nice of you to make it clear you are not here for a genuine discussion.

BeMoreMagdalen · 04/10/2019 19:03

Mac is tres witty. Dropping in drag race catchphrases to see if we 'get' them. Oh how the students and colleagues must be chortling. What a devastating comeback for accusations of defending misogyny; treating women with contempt. Go on, slay us all by backing out saying Vanjie over and over. That'll definitely show how clever you are.

TinselAngel · 04/10/2019 19:07

Surely just posting something on its own is not dropping a quote in?

Melroses · 04/10/2019 19:14

No, you are supposed to drop it in some sort of context. Randomly dropping it is boringly pointless.
