Black women murdered in 2019
Google this.

Don't tell me big tech is not influencing us. I first noticed this after realizing the reason I was so late to the party re trans issues was mainly due to mainstream media and fecken algorithms.

I am, or was, hard left. Now I am politically homeless as are lots of us. But criky even I have to admit how left wing Google, Twitter, Facebook, and all the Biggie's are. They have too much power and (I can't believe I'm saying this) I have some sympathy for Trump and his supporters regarding the fake news narrative.

What we're your results? Oh and the Google search above isn't something that's gone viral so as to impact any algorithm.

Bugger it's bedtime for a lot of you. Always when I want to chat.

I tried this a few days ago.

Then I tried other search engines - DuckDuckGo, Yahoo, Bing iirc. Not exactly the same results, but along similar lines.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/10/2019 00:13

Wiki.com is giving different types of results, other than the first hit.

But that's not a comprehensive search engine.

zebrasdontwearbras · 01/10/2019 00:14

You're not wrong about the big tech companies. They control the information. We should all be worried about that.

Google, twitter, facebook, wikipedia, youtube. They're controlling what we see, what we hear - even what words we're allowed to use. It's far-reaching - and it scares me. It's so powerful it can swing an election or a referendum now.

Who knew that 1984 would be the via the internet? Shock

Hellbentwellwent · 01/10/2019 00:16

Bloody hell.... that is quite astonishing

zebrasdontwearbras · 01/10/2019 00:20

Incidentally, this is a screenshot of my google search.

zebrasdontwearbras · 01/10/2019 00:22

The search for women isn't much better.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/10/2019 00:23

Yup, that's the sort of results I'm getting.

Are there any other search engines we can try?

zebrasdontwearbras · 01/10/2019 00:25

Startpage - This is what DH set me up with when I asked him to get me off google. Just as bad - and I believe is fed mainly by google results anyway.

Google are so powerful.

Blimey. Who the heck is manipulating things to this extent?

ErrolTheDragon · 01/10/2019 00:30

Afaik Startpage is just a way to get google results without tracking.

zebrasdontwearbras · 01/10/2019 00:31

Jennifer Pritzker.

Google "her".

(LOL)

zebrasdontwearbras · 01/10/2019 00:31

Yes Errol, I think you're right.

Yeahnahyeah · 01/10/2019 00:34

Blimey. Who the heck is manipulating things to this extent?

I read that there are 20000 techs just for the search engine. Most of them are Woke.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/10/2019 00:39

So, I tried an advanced search.

Black women murdered in 2019 -Trans -transwoman -transgender

While this does contain some hits which match the main phrase, quite a few are historical, a couple are about South Africa (I didn't notice any such on the original search) and one is about a woman being killed by a black bear.

Using the original search and restricting the domain to .uk gives a mixed result (one of which is missing the word black)

ErrolTheDragon · 01/10/2019 00:46

How much is it the search engines, and how much is it down to what's considered newsworthy though?

Apileofballyhoo · 01/10/2019 00:48

But criky even I have to admit how left wing Google, Twitter, Facebook, and all the Biggie's are.

I thought all this TRA stuff was very right wing, it's just the lefties have fallen for the poor oppressed trans minorities thing, when it seems more likely that there's just a lot of money to be made.

Big pharm Guy 1. People are too healthy these days and there is too much regulation on what poisons people (tobacco, glyphosate etc).
Big pharm Guy 2. Wouldn't it be great if perfectly healthy people wanted expensive surgery?
Guy 1. We already have cosmetic surgery, we need more than that.
Guy 2. Let me think... what about convincing people they need a sex change? We could start really early with kids, you know hormones and hormone blockers and it's a whole new market!

Anyway, right or left it's a disgrace. And the Google thing is very disturbing.

Doesn't Google return searches based on how many clicks pages have received? Or do you pay to have your stuff bumped? It's just I remember the English Disco Lovers trying to bump past the English Defence League a few years ago and asking people to click on their website. So money to fund an army of clickers would ensure trans women are the first ones returned in the search for murdered women.

Yeahnahyeah · 01/10/2019 00:49

How much is it the search engines, and how much is it down to what's considered newsworthy though?

I can't believe, as trendy as trans is right now, that is overrides the 99.8% of (in this case) black women murdered.

OP posts:
stumbledin · 01/10/2019 00:53

The searach engines reflect the news stories published.

News outlets dont report on women of whatever race that are murdered by men, the highest number being domestic violence.

But for news outlets written or edited by men the murder of a trans woman, ie a man, is a news story. And the news story concentrates on the trans, not what is often the common factor, prostitution.

I dont know the number of women in prostitution murdered each year but they dont get the news coverage.

VenusTiger · 01/10/2019 00:58

And the libraries are still shutting Sad scary stuff

PerkingFaintly · 01/10/2019 01:21

Yep. Not the first time it's been noticed.

PerkingFaintly · 01/10/2019 01:37

I don't quite get this ongoing idea that the tech companies are left wing. I keep seeing it mentioned, but rather obviously there are also plenty of right wing people highly involved in tech – including tech giants like Peter Thiel en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Thiel

Robert Mercer moved from IBM into hedge funds, but has continued to use the profits to fund interesting tech projects like microtargetting voters in the Brexit referendum.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Mercer

Trump's 2016 campaign actually had Facebook staff embedded in the campaign offices, to help optimise the campaign's microtargeting (different, often conflicting, ads to different segments of the population).

Those are just off the top of my head. I'd expect there to be a spread of left and right wing at most levels.

Apileofballyhoo · 01/10/2019 01:39

Yes, it's picking up news stories rather than particularly picking up trans women. If you Google black women killed 2007, that's what what you get because there weren't any news stories about trans women for 2007. But also I'm sure it's to do with clicking. Of course clicking to get to the top is a ridiculous self propelling way of getting something at the top to stay at the top. That's why Boris Johnson sometimes says ludicrous things about buses (he likes to build models is now what comes up as it's a more recent news story than 350 million to the NHS bus) and bridges (NI Scotland bridge comes up instead of wasting money as mayor on Garden bridge).

I often find it frustrating if I'm googling something factual that has a name similar to a TV show or some other popular culture thing. Endless scrolling until I find the information I want.

Apileofballyhoo · 01/10/2019 01:49

I don't quite get this ongoing idea that the tech companies are left wing. 100% agree, Perking. In any case, most are US based so perhaps liberal at best. A bit simplistic but European slightly left wing is crazy communist in the US. I often see things like "socialism doesn't work" regarding European countries and I just wonder to myself on what basis? Seems to be working ok to me. Policies and parties in Europe that are considered right of centre here would be socialist in the US. So tech giants being left wing has to be judged against that too. And you can be liberal and right wing at the same time.

Nippybutsweet · 01/10/2019 02:45

Genuine query here, when did identity politics become the norm? Do we all align with either left, right or liberal?
Is it ok that I don't have a particular political identity but like the OP can smell a rat at 10 paces regardless of the forced agenda behind it.
