I’m offering this without comment, mainly because my jaw is still on the floor.

Is the local paper not interested in any of this? It makes me so angry that sexual fetish which mainly seems to degrade women is being presented as some sort of norm.

It's very lucky that any media outlet has reported anything on this.

HandsOffMyRights · 30/09/2019 16:49

I'd like a transcript, Jan the Mermaids trainer style with Jonny quizzed on the programme's content.

LangCleg · 30/09/2019 16:52

So, my question to Etty would be: how have you tracked and are you currently tracking the success of your sex groomingly negative positive initiatives?

Can we see:

  • change in rates of STDs among teens? Comparison of teen STD rates to other LAs not using such material?

  • reduction in rates of peer on peer sex assaults and harassment in schools? Comparison with other LAs not using such material?

  • reduction in rates of young men diagnosed with erectile dysfunction?

I have many more ideas for useful data collection so that you have a solid evidence base. Just, y'know, get in touch.

Melroses · 30/09/2019 17:11

*reduction in rates of peer on peer sex assaults and harassment in schools? Comparison with other LAs not using such material
This was on Twitter, from 2017
www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/feb/03/claims-child-sexual-offences-soar-england-and-wales-police-barnardos?CMP=share_btn_tw
The figures, revealed by freedom of information requests, show the number of reported cases more than doubled in 12 force areas over the period, including rises of 521% in Warwickshire, 371% in Norfolk and 345% in Lincolnshire.

LangCleg · 30/09/2019 17:20

Thank you, Melroses!

Melroses · 30/09/2019 17:25

[waves] Tis but a trifle. Means my arsing about on twitter all afternoon actually had a purpose. Wink

OhHolyJesus · 30/09/2019 17:30

Is the local paper not interested in any of this?

My local media have covered this (from a national perspective), I'm not Warwickshire-based.

Does anyone know if this is in schools elsewhere? It's meant to have been approved by DoE and in 240 schools in the Uk according the the article I read - is Warwickshire the Trojan Horse like No Outsiders is for Birmingham?

HandsOffMyRights · 30/09/2019 17:39

Jonny (AKA Twitter's 'Little Rubber Hat' ) does get around!
So far I can see he's been doing the rounds at primaries and secondaries in Warwickshire, but with that many appearances he must have taken his show on the road.

I wish Andrew Gillighan was still at The Times. He uncovered the Trojan Horse scandal.

I'm in Birmingham. So many educators seem hooked on No Outsiders here - suspect Jonny has the monopoly on Warwickshire.

Fraggling · 30/09/2019 17:49

'show the number of reported cases more than doubled in 12 force areas over the period, including rises of 521% in Warwickshire,' Shock

KarenWithTheHair · 30/09/2019 17:50

I said upthread this is local to me and there was a lot of stuff on fb about it (mostly pitchfork wielding “discusting pedos” type outrage but a lot of people claimed to have made complaints) but it seems to have all disappeared as I can’t find a single thing now and I’ve no way of looking back at pages I’ve viewed previously.

LangCleg · 30/09/2019 17:56

So.

In 2011, Etty and pals go off to the Netherlands.

In 2014, this sex "positive" initiative launches.

Between 2013 and 2017, minor on minor sex assaults reported to the police go up by 521% in Warwickshire.

WAY TO GO ETTY, WAY TO GO.

HandsOffMyRights · 30/09/2019 18:11

Response from CEO of Warwickshire CC:

*The All About Me programme is offered to schools in Warwickshire to help their staff to teach our children appropriate lessons at this age. It is thoroughly researched and is planned and delivered in line with the national statutory Department for Education guidance

Schools in Warwickshire have been using All About Me for over a year. It was preceded by a similar programme which ran for six years. There is extensive consultation with parents, schools and governors before schools can sign up to it and staff are fully trained to deliver the programme and are supported throughout.

We take our responsibilities to our children extremely seriously and we would never allow an inappropriate programme to be used in our schools. As such we are taking the opportunity to review the material*

Mummyoflittledragon · 30/09/2019 18:11

☹️ those stats are awful!

HandsOffMyRights · 30/09/2019 18:14

I wrote to her about the Respect Yourself programme Hmm

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 30/09/2019 18:16

Between 2013 and 2017, minor on minor sex assaults reported to the police go up by 521% in Warwickshire.

I think Etty and co will see this as indicative of a need to educate children about how liberated and sex positive those sexual events have been. The ungrateful brats.

Ereshkigal · 30/09/2019 18:19

I wrote to her about the Respect Yourself programme

Yes I would write back to her and point that out.

Ereshkigal · 30/09/2019 18:19

Melroses Shock

OrchidInTheSun · 30/09/2019 18:22

Just to avoid confusion - there are two separate initiatives here:

  • All About Me which is an RSE programme which Jonny Hunt has written for primary schools in Warwickshire. After some bad press, Warwickshire CC has removed the link from their website.
  • Respect Yourself - which is a website aimed at secondary school aged children funded by the council, the NHS and uses some content provided by JH. It is not part of the curriculum and there has been nothing in MSM. It is still linked to by WCC.

521%. Jesus

No Outsiders is a different sex positive initiative.

HandsOffMyRights · 30/09/2019 18:24

I will Eresh.

I mean, don't get me wrong, it's vile enough that All About Me is teaching 6 year olds to masturbate, but the fact that I have explicitly pointed out why Respect Yourself is so predatory, leaves me to wonder if the council even knows what these separate yet equally disturbing programmes are advocating.

Mummyoflittledragon · 30/09/2019 18:25

@HandsOffMyRights
I think it’s worrying that she hasn’t even read what you said properly. It makes me wonder how well she understood what was being taught in the Netherlands and how much she understood of the programme. Maybe she lacks basic understanding.

Ereshkigal · 30/09/2019 18:28

521%. Jesus

Yes, that should really be part of the "evidence base".

HandsOffMyRights · 30/09/2019 18:29

Mummy, exactly. I even started my email with 'Respect Yourself' and go on to discuss many of the red flags regarding this particular programme.

I'll email back for clarity.
On her part...

IfNot · 30/09/2019 18:32

I said upthread this is local to me and there was a lot of stuff on fb about it (mostly pitchfork wielding “discusting pedos” type outrage
Hang on a minute. Not to be picky but just because some people can't spell or whatever doesn't mean their outrage is somehow less important. You don't need to be educated to have a clear sense of right and wrong. Besides. The people peddling this muck probably ARE disgusting paedophiles. I can't think of any other reason to create such shocking material for children.

OrchidInTheSun · 30/09/2019 18:35

@HandsOffMyRights - she's clearly just sent you the same reply she's sent everyone else.

How rude to not actually even read your letter

Macca84 · 30/09/2019 18:37

Somebodys mentioned this story on a single parenting forum thread on facebook and there is a lady getting very haughty that "this stuff needs to be spelled out to kids" and "it's the naive kids who are most at risk". What, so you need to detail/promote every single sex act to a 13 year old? Wtf is wrong with some folk
