Drama onwoman's hour.

Is anyone following it? I just caught it at the end of woman's hour in my car this morning so dont know what it was called.

2 trans teens were dating, sharing how they came out etc. All dismissive of the yr 7 cou sellor who suggested they might be lesbian - said in reaponse to how they knew - it was the usual - football/trousers/playing with boys.

Blockers and top surgery werent a big deal - all seemed a seamless story through early teens...

In a way it seemed more dangerous than the debates as it narrates an easy trans experience as the norm, and anyone who disagreed as unreasonable.

Im not the most articulate in unpicking it so wondered if anyone else had heard it?

X post with Absinthe. Incidentally, Tigger's website says she's female.

ALadyofLetters · 25/09/2019 13:53

I caught some of it in the car. The bit about knowing he was a boy as a child because he always wore trousers made me laugh. Surely wearing trousers is pretty mainstream for both sexes these days?!

This is the third series of this “Drama”. I listened to some of the other two and found the script and acting truly dreadful.

The fact they put it on as part of woman’s hour, is just trolling all women and Dame Jenni Murray.

Sadly, I think its the fifth. I tried looking it up but series 3 seems to have gone AWOL which is strange.

OrchidInTheSun · 25/09/2019 16:11

It's the fifth series @LizzieSiddal! Been going on for bloody years. It was originally made in cooperation with Mermaids but I don't think they get a name check any more.

In the first series it says: "Thanks to Susie Green and the parents at Mermaids, a charity offering support to gender variant children, teenagers and their families and the Tavistock Clinic."

NumberblockNo1 · 25/09/2019 16:12

FIFTH!?!? And its not been challenged? Its rather one sided.

DodoPatrol · 25/09/2019 16:16

It's doing a sterling job of boring the pants off people all by itself, though.

Orchid, the way that acknowledgement is written makes it sound like Mermaids are offering support to the Tavistock. I'm sure it's just a rogue straying comma...

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 25/09/2019 16:17

Not these days.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 25/09/2019 16:54

Tigger’s website May she she is female, but on Twitter she is referred to as he. MNHQ I am not misgendering, just trying to respect Tigger’s own language choices.

OrchidInTheSun · 25/09/2019 16:55

It does @DodoPatrol GrinGrin

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 25/09/2019 16:56

Well I suppose that’s nice for their agent.

nauticant · 25/09/2019 17:02

I've decided to listen to this even though I have a low opinion of the programme (that I've listened to from the start).

Each episode contains a number of propagandistic inserts, such as this one on Monday being an exchange between Mum and Amy (the transgirl):

M: "And what did you talk about while you were there [at the Tavistock]"
A: "The incredible rise in referrals and what's made so many people want to transition."
M: "What do the clinic put it down to?"
A: "Awareness, media coverage, people being confident to say who they are and how they are."
M: "Absolutely."

Antibles · 25/09/2019 17:03

Isn't Tigger a tiger? With a bottom made out of a spring?

No, Tigger is just bouncy. It's Zebedee with the spring bottom.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 25/09/2019 17:04

Definitely Tigger... Their tops are made out of rubber too. And they are fun fun fun fun fun. Apparently. And they go bouncy.

JellyfishAndShells · 25/09/2019 17:08

I’ll let my friend, who squeaks on about the awfulness of Jenni Murray daring to say TW are not W, know that she can safely relax and enjoy a soothing drama with her cup of tea.

JoyceJeffries · 25/09/2019 17:13

It’s just more propaganda from the BBC.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 25/09/2019 17:15

Whoever pointed out that it is a drama without drama was bang on (as the writers might say as they search for relevant yout' dialogue and miss it by a country mile and at least two decades)

AbsintheFriends · 25/09/2019 17:18

Yes, it's like the clunky public information broadcasts of yesteryear, about chip pan fires or crossing the road safely. It would seem the usual standards expected by radio 4's drama commissioners have been mysteriously waived for this.

HumberElla · 25/09/2019 17:18

More ‘hot topic’ gravy train I imagine. You don’t need to be a decent writer, because as long as it’s on-message then you’re raking it in.

5th series!! I might write one and give up the day job.

SisterWendyBuckett · 25/09/2019 17:27

More gaslighting from Auntie Beeb

umbel · 25/09/2019 17:40

Asking on here in the hope of a steer from you radio listeners, but not related to the 'drama' in the OP - did anyone listen to a drama on Radio 4 about a promising young male tennis player who decided to identify as female? Very pushy mother who clearly saw the potential for her kid to sweep up all the prizes in the female competitions. I only listened to half of it and it seemed promisingly GC, but I lost track of it before I finished it and have never been able to find it again. Can anyone help?
