Sheffield strip club keeps licence despite opposition by feminist coalition

From the way the Guardian reports it (but does anyone think their reporting is unbiased) the undercover filming that campaigners organised has worked against them.

I think the licence will be reviewer again in a year. Have a horrible feeling that if it hadn't been "feminists" campaigning but "local" people the council would have acted differently. The patriarchy likes to be seen to slapping down uppity women.

They didn't even value the opinion of the local Rape Crisis Centre which works nearby. Sad

It’s so exploitative and who really makes the big bucks from women’s and girls bodies ?

How did it get to be so normalised ?

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 19/09/2019 15:35

Strip club work is work like any other job

Except you do it partially or fully naked

Which apparently does make some things different

But we don’t know why, or don’t want to talk about it apparently

Datun · 19/09/2019 15:36

Roses, I asked a question about CCTV and whether it could be used.

You decided it was a great idea and you would choose it as an option over A and B.

Lang disagrees with you.

Datun · 19/09/2019 15:38

Just to reiterate, Lang and I are not the same person.

RosesAndRaindrops · 19/09/2019 15:39

Do you know what? There's no fucking point arguing.
Carry on telling other women what to do, how to feel, cos they're too stupid or brainwashed to be able to want to do something for their own free will.
I'll carry on thinking women are independent, free thinkers, capable of their own decisions.
I'll just obviously never understand how other women can try and curtail the freedom and choices of other women.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/09/2019 15:39

Lang and I otoh are definitely the same person, though we never can agree on which one is the evil twin.

Somerville · 19/09/2019 15:40

I don't think women should be filmed against their knowledge, that feels exploitative to me.... I don't however think restricting an individual women's right to a job she wants to do is on.

What if the job she wants to do is whistleblowing about strip clubs by filming abuse inside them?

RosesAndRaindrops · 19/09/2019 15:41

And I was replying to LANG, not you.

As in
Nice to know that you think exploitative work place contracts and 24/7 filming is a great solution though. State of dress irrelevant again, I notice. Makes things very clear

I wasn't even on about you and your question. I was replying to Lang's comment.

Datun · 19/09/2019 15:44

Roses, you got Lang and me mixed up.

You then decided, on the basis that we were one person, that we had provided you with a third option, in order to trap you into taking it.

Because you're not reading properly.

Lang has pointed out the downsides to that option. So the normal thing would be to say, okay I get it, sorry for the mixup and accusations of entrapment.

CuntAmongstThePigeons · 19/09/2019 15:44

I guess for me the over-riding of the women's consent with regards to filming is simply not acceptable regardless of whether the end goal was to "help" the women they were filming without their knowledge or consent or not.

I think if the feminist groups wanted to improve the working conditions of the women working in the clubs they would have been better off actually talking to the women who work in these clubs.

Datun · 19/09/2019 15:47

I think if the feminist groups wanted to improve the working conditions of the women working in the clubs they would have been better off actually talking to the women who work in these clubs.

They did, apparently. The report includes testimony from ex-employees.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 19/09/2019 15:47

I don’t think the feminists do want to improve conditions in the club Pigeons

They want to close it down

Pretty damn radical I know

(Maybe they’re radical feminists? Shock )

RosesAndRaindrops · 19/09/2019 15:48

Except you do it partially or fully naked

Which apparently does make some things different

Well yeah as any fewl knows that you don't just randomly pitch up off the street and film women without their consent in a state of undress, least ya'd think.....
"I am here to save the day, so I'm allowed...."
or something
So who regulates the whistleblowers then?
Why is it OK for members of the public to take it upon themselves?
I'm having to answer everything, but this one never has been.
"Feminists are OK to do it" isn't an answer because feminists are just unregulated, random people.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 19/09/2019 15:49

Ah, regulated feminists would be better

Duly noted

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 19/09/2019 15:49

I wonder who gets to regulate them?

RosesAndRaindrops · 19/09/2019 15:51

I wonder who gets to regulate them?

That's my point - they're ordinary members of the public, they're not regulated, who would regulate them?
Which is why it's not OK to film people naked unregulated.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 19/09/2019 15:52

(I’m still none the wiser about why filming someone who is naked is a transgression, where filming someone fully clothed isn’t Sad )

Datun · 19/09/2019 15:52

So who regulates the whistleblowers then?

Because whistleblowing has to be in the public interest, Rose. What don't you get? If it wasn't in the public interest you'd have a point, but it was, so you don't. If some random does it, it won't be in the public interest, so they will be treated differently.

RosesAndRaindrops · 19/09/2019 15:52

Or at all without consent, goes without saying. before that gets jumped on.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/09/2019 15:53

I know - the same people who regulate the strip clubs! Since they're so good at regulating things and all.

Somerville · 19/09/2019 15:54

Ah, regulated feminists would be better

What’s a regulated feminist a euphemism for, I wonder?

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 19/09/2019 15:54

Bingo Kittens !

We should totes put Spearmint Rhino in charge of feminism

They’d make sure we were doing it right

Datun · 19/09/2019 15:54

There is some kind of trade association, or livery company for whistleblowers? Does everyone pay subs, on the off chance that they might whistleblow in the future? Or do you have to be on the cusp of whistleblowing, before you can join?

Datun · 19/09/2019 15:55

Is there, not there is

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 19/09/2019 15:56

No taking community, grassroots action datun !

If you’re not regulated then no active participation in public life for you!
