Sheffield strip club keeps licence despite opposition by feminist coalition

stumbledin · 18/09/2019 16:13

From the way the Guardian reports it (but does anyone think their reporting is unbiased) the undercover filming that campaigners organised has worked against them.

I think the licence will be reviewer again in a year. Have a horrible feeling that if it hadn't been "feminists" campaigning but "local" people the council would have acted differently. The patriarchy likes to be seen to slapping down uppity women.

They didn't even value the opinion of the local Rape Crisis Centre which works nearby. Sad

So what's your solution then?
Or don't you have one?
Only you had one until it was an apparent gotcha I wasn't supposed to answer.

than a bunch of feminists doing last ditch whistleblowing in the face of regulatory failure.
Bunch of feminists - also known as random members of the public on a moral crusade for their own gain and agenda.
It's the euphemisms that makes it so silly - "we're feminists, so that means by default we're all OK and not members of the public" and "we're whistleblowers so that's better than saying we're filming people naked without their consent....

I've answered everything put to me.
So telling that people resort to playground instead of answering questions themselves.

So go on then. What's your solution?
Pick one.
What's it to be?

LangCleg · 19/09/2019 15:21

Have you got a better solution?

Told you. B. Effective regulation protecting women as a class even though it means restricting some choices by some women. If the regulatory body is clearly corrupt and failing, whistleblowing permissible as the only answer.

Nice to know that you think exploitative work place contracts and 24/7 filming is a great solution though. State of dress irrelevant again, I notice.

Makes things very clear.

Datun · 19/09/2019 15:22

Um, feminist isn't a euphemism.

Somerville · 19/09/2019 15:22

Gin Gin Gin

  • my favourite MN emoticon, despite not drinking spirits, because it makes me remember to raise a glass of wine to Zombie.
RosesAndRaindrops · 19/09/2019 15:22

Did I miss whether you plumped for A or B?

Did you miss the part where I said it's been framed as only two choices and I don't have to agree?
I went for Option C.
And the only reason the filibustering nonsense accusations gets wheeled out is because I refuse to shut up and go away and actually answer everything.

Datun · 19/09/2019 15:24

I went for Option C.

There is no Option C. It was a question. Are you making it an option, now?

Somerville · 19/09/2019 15:24

Sorry, love, what are you reckoning is filibustering nonsense?

RosesAndRaindrops · 19/09/2019 15:24

Seeing as it was YOU who posed it as a serious solution in order to perform a gotcha says a hell of a lot more about you than you'll ever realise.

Wurzelsnewhead · 19/09/2019 15:24

Summed it up pretty well there Bernard 😀

Somerville · 19/09/2019 15:25

Or isnt rather.

Datun · 19/09/2019 15:26

Seeing as it was YOU who posed it as a serious solution in order to perform a gotcha says a hell of a lot more about you than you'll ever realise.

Oh dear roses. Lang and I are different people. I asked a question. Not Lang.

RosesAndRaindrops · 19/09/2019 15:26

There is no Option C. It was a question. Are you making it an option, now?

You said pick one. You gave two options, based on YOUR view.
I don't have to agree with you.
As there's another option available, MY viewpoint.
So yes.
I am making it an option.
You don't speak for all women.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/09/2019 15:27

I would indeed like to gain a society in which sexual exploitation of women is not normalized. If that counts as an agenda then so be it.

RosesAndRaindrops · 19/09/2019 15:28

Lang and I are different people. I asked a question. Not Lang

Apologies, thought I was addressing Lang.
The comment still stands to Lang then - Seeing as it was YOU who posed it as a serious solution in order to perform a gotcha says a hell of a lot more about you than you'll ever realise

Datun · 19/09/2019 15:28

Roses!!

lang and I are different people

We're two different people. Two different posters.

Lang is asking about two options, A and B.

And I asked a question about CCTV.

Two separate posts. Two separate points.

Datun · 19/09/2019 15:30

Nope. That was me. Asking a question. About CCTV.

Not Lang.

Not Lang.

Not Lang.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/09/2019 15:30

Also, I love how letters to the editor of the Daily Mail this is. Harrump, I say!

Bunch of feminists - also known as random members of the public on a moral crusade for their own gain and agenda.

I know, being moral - it's always an agenda

Wurzelsnewhead · 19/09/2019 15:32

C - Strip club work is work like any other job

And there we have it. According to Raindrops, taking your clothes off for sleazy blokes is just like any other job 🤮

CuntAmongstThePigeons · 19/09/2019 15:33

Just piping up to add my 2 cents. I don't think women should be filmed against their knowledge, that feels exploitative to me. I do think there is room to improve both the way strip clubs are run but also the ethos of the clubs themselves. I don't however think restricting an individual women's right to a job she wants to do is on.

Hang on - it WAS Lang who said this, what are you on about?
THIS is what I quoted, and answered.
What are you trying to do, exactly? Why have you dragged your name into it, are you deliberately trying to twist and muddle or what?
You've quoted Lang and attributed it to yourself.
I wasn't even talking about you.
Don't try to gaslight me.
It won't work.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 19/09/2019 15:33

Women! Stop banding together to further your rights!

Don’t you know you’re just random members of the public and should behave accordingly?

littlbrowndog · 19/09/2019 15:33

Yeah kittens that would be fucking awesome
No women and girls having to ge5 their clothes off for men to get their kicks from
No women and girls being trafficked across the world so men can get their kicks from

RosesAndRaindrops · 19/09/2019 15:34

Oh and that was to Datun obviously.
In case it needs spelling out.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/09/2019 15:34

Funny, nobody has ever suggested that we might need CCTV and regular visits from regulators to keep the staff safe and ensure the law wasn't being broken at my workplace.
