Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Middle ground

I've been trying to follow conversations online in regard to gender critical thought, pronouns, selfID, transrights, lesbian erasure etc. And all I can find is extreme views on both sides. Is there a middle ground? Is it here? Is Twitter too toxic? I want to be informed not screamed at.

People do understand that users don't actually have the ability to reorganize MN forums as they see fit?

I'd pin a bunch of stuff if I was in charge, but I am not.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 16/09/2019 20:29

What's the difference, rufus?

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 16/09/2019 20:29

Yum (in 4 to 6 weeks)

Phew Tyroxicity - I will try to keep it up

Also phew ArnoldWhatshisknickers - I hear ya. I was just trying to establish the female TRA thing and ponder how to get more women onside, those in the 'it's happening/happened over there, it doesn't/hasn't affect(ed) me' camp (which I was pre GRA)

And Earlywalker - yes, this is why I came here, to look for open debate and not shutting down of ideas/people.

Ive had it with red wine or apple juice or prosecco

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 16/09/2019 20:36

Liqueur

Spell check hates me

HDDD · 16/09/2019 20:39

Novembersbean
At first I wanted to reach out a hand to OP
I can't remember if I've said this to you already but I appreciate it. Thank you.

What's the stuff in the bottom of the bottles?

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 16/09/2019 20:43

Sloeberries

TheAlternativeTentacle · 16/09/2019 20:44

Sloes. Plus sugar. Plus gin. Don't pay CK the sloes until the first frost though.

I hear ya. I was just trying to establish the female TRA thing and ponder how to get more women onside, those in the 'it's happening/happened over there, it doesn't/hasn't affect(ed) me' camp (which I was pre GRA)

So what are the extreme views that you referenced in the opening post?

Novembersbean · 16/09/2019 20:45

If you had any idea of the times I have patiently explained to hundreds of people, who didn't tell me I was doing it wrong, you'd perhaps rethink that statement.

No I wouldn't? I wasn't being sarcastic - you said it was annoying being asked over and over, I've said I won't ask then. I'm really struggling to see what you're taking issue with at this point.

I don't have a question, I said many questions get a hostile respond so most don't ask or ask once and never again.

I haven't asked anything of any of you, just commented on a wider trend. Why can't you just let it lie?

Novembersbean · 16/09/2019 20:48

No problem HDDD, glad you've had some useful responses.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 16/09/2019 20:51

And sugar

After 4 weeks the sugar will be dissolved and you can start tasting

When you are happy with it you take the sloes out

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 16/09/2019 20:52

Sorry HDDD

Got distracted by alcohol

TheAlternativeTentacle · 16/09/2019 20:57

I don't have a question

You said earlier you had a question.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 16/09/2019 20:57

I don't believe I've ever tasted a sloeberry. Has to be better than juniper though.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 16/09/2019 21:06

Ive not eaten a sloeberry...just infused gin with it Grin

Though there were loads of blackberries when we were picking them...tempted to try and make blackberry gin

Novembersbean · 16/09/2019 21:17

Tentacle no, I didn't. There are things I don't fully understand but I'm not going to ask questions on a thread full of people who vocally don't want to answer them.

MIdgebabe · 16/09/2019 21:23

I can answer questions.at least till I get sleepy.

As an aside, sloes don’t taste nice

truthisarevolutionaryact · 16/09/2019 21:25

Glad HDDD to see that you've found all the suggestions useful. Initially I found it really depressing as I worked through all the different aspects of this - reading, thinking and initially lurking on here, But I was captivated by the sheer commitment and integrity of so many women challenging this - along with picking up the occasional recipe along the way Grin

TheAlternativeTentacle · 16/09/2019 21:31

I had to go through pages and pages of comments like yours before anyone who was not angered too much by someone who isn't a "regular" asking the question to link it

???. But why then go through pages and pages for an answer to a question that you didn't have?

Unless this is just all as Lang says, fillibustering nonsense.

Sloes - never ever suck a sloe. Ever.

And still waiting for those extreme views. Much like the questions, nowhere to be found. Weird huh?

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 16/09/2019 21:33

New Mumsnet insult

Oh go and suck a sloe

TheAlternativeTentacle · 16/09/2019 21:36

Honest I actually have...for about a millisecond. They are so tart they turn your face inwards.

I've also bit an olive. Fresh off a tree. Same effect.

And eaten aloe straight from the leaf. Went as green as the plant.

All terrible, terrible decisions.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 16/09/2019 21:40

Why 😀 just why...

I made cocktails the other day...everyone liked the blackberry that had been soaked in prosecco and sloe gin

No one liked the cherry soaked in , ameretto and kirsch

But once the first person tried the cherry and pronounced it gross...they all had to check to see exactly how gross

Except me

Novembersbean · 16/09/2019 21:46

Tentacle because I can see how other people's questions are answered and draw a pattern from there? I wanted to know more, I didn't have one specific question.
