Apparently he had a gender id certificate when he was convicted, though presumably as it's self is, they grant them quickly so any convicted rapist can just self certify he's a lady to get into the hen house

The story took some weeks to reach the media, but in the meantime, here's the way the usual idiots tried to shut it down.

It was my understanding that Ireland allowed men into women's prisons as long as they already had a GRC, before they committed the crime.

As far as I remember, only a couple of hundred GRCs have ever been issued in Ireland. So the possibility was remote at best.

I think it was to stop people switching gender in prison, in order to get transferred.

So it may have been if they had a GRC before they went to prison, not before they commit the crime.

But yes, obviously self ID would render the thinking behind it completely useless.

Self ID will never be abused, we should accept these brave women without question.

Ah, so this person is a risk to males and is at risk of male vengeance. So the way to protect violent males from male violence is in a female prison.

So, to be clear, a convicted sex offender with male genitalia has been placed in a women's prison and the prison authorities believe that it's the sex offender (still with working penis) who needs to be protected from the other inmates? That's certainly an, um, interesting way to view the situation. Not rational or reasonable or even vaguely sensible, but interesting for sure.

I wholeheartedly disagree with this. We’ve already seen a trans rapist attack women in a women’s jail. It’s putting the women in danger.
There are so many men turning into trans women in prisons for the sole purpose of being around women and the UK allows it. It seems only minorities have rights and everyone else just has to deal with it, regardless of the risk it involves.
