Thought it was time for another of these. I'll just cut-and-paste the opening of the last thread:

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

Thread 3 was deleted with this note from MNHQ; We're sure there will be a Bunbury 4 around soon, but we'd be grateful if we could draw a line under the issues raised in this thread if there's to be a new one.

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we’ve had several community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

Some helpful links can be found in the first posts on thread 2 (linked above) but in essence FermatsTheorem recommended “that in the absence of a block/hide poster button, I suggest the following strategy (given that you're talking to the lurkers).

Do not name check the sealion. Instead, respond to a depersonalised paraphrase:

"It is sometimes erroneously suggested that blah. Blah is wrong for the following reasons (short and pithy). If you need more information re. debunking blah, here's a link."

Then (this next step is important to combat derailment) go back up thread to the last useful contribution to the discussion, make sure you do name check that contributor, and pick up the discussion from that point.”

Really? Must have been another thread from the one I tried to read, which was life-suckingly boring. I died before reaching the half way point, but luckily my dog revived me.

It was so overwrought I didn't strike me as your average, um, interesting person. Surely no-one read that whole post? What was the point of it? It must've taken longer to type up than the thread actually stayed for?

Hasn't somebody posted something very similar to that before?

I got a para or two into that unbefeckinlievably dull alleged blog post, registered the wide eyed disingenuous 'educate meeee' stance and noped out.

Between that and the various 'you're all nasty I've done the research but I won't tell you what it is flounce' posters the last couple of days, I'm feeling quite irritated. They really do think we're that stupid or they're that clever.

It's even more annoying than being faced with an innocent expression, an emphatic denial and a wailing sibling. And I actually like my children...

I noticed that a lot of people did spend time answering and helping the OP. I guess our apparent kindness and naivety will cause great glee as we seem to be taking the bait and wasting our time. Tricky though as immediate suspicion is then turned back as hostility... But there were a fair few long replies.

Do you think MNHQ would share data such as all the "deleted first posts" for some machine learning analysis?

Bloody women, always doing things wrong, eh? Never seems to occur to the people in question that if they think we're doing everything wrong they could just get off their bums and do it right themselves instead. If they were sincere, that is.

There appears to be a new fashion for raising issues about a certain sanitary brand’s packaging. There is no verifiable source and the language used is ripe for screenshotting - even though these are not in FWR. I have reported but they are still there.

I was looking at a new thread about school problems just an hour or so ago and it's gone. Why was that zapped?

I didn't get to see that much of it but I suppose it was a bit of an unlikely story. Didn't last long anyway.

Yes that school one read like a made up one - either because trolls have realised this is a hot button topic and likely to garner lots of responses, or because of people inventing an extreme scenario in order to garner equally extreme responses for screen-shot purposes.

I saw that 'educate me' post yesterday and - because I was really busy - didn't bother to Bunbury.

It was really obvious it was goady.

My post was directed at no one in particular.

There are some posters who just suck the oxygen (and the intellect) out of a thread. Tbh, as soon as I see their names I generally reverse. "Ah but" and "whatabout" to 1,000 posts. I know it's a deliberate tactic and I'm full of admiration for those who tackle them. I just reckon life's too short to waste on them.

No-one has mentioned it, but I seem to have a conditioned response to want some cake.
