A TRA came on here and accused us of wanting a new section 28, but they phrased it in such a way that it made it look as though they were replying to people on here who were saying that. Then they took screenshots of their own posts and put them on twitter.

No one called for a new section 28. If I remember, a TRA on here mentioned it, which was picked up by twitter TRAs as a mumsnetter.

Liz Truss might be currently aligned with MN feminism board views on this single issue, but she's no friend of women / children / the working class in my opinion

She votes consistently for freezes or reductions in welfare payments
She votes for more autonomous schools, ie much less control over what is being taught, where and by who
She votes against social mobility measures, eg funding for deprived children to stay in education
She votes for higher uni fees
She votes against thing to help prevent climate change

In my opinion the harm these things do outweigh her possible GC stance. And she's a bit of a charisma vacuum and laughing stock, so it's hard to believe she's goigg to influence anyone else to change their mind on this

Oh well, she's going to be a Conservative, isn't she, and all the nice ones are leaving or being kicked out. I suppose one who's gender-critical is better than one who isn't.

Also voted for tax cuts for the rich
Voted against secure tenancies for life
Voted against improving public transport
Voted for restricting legal aid

All these things do significant harm to women as a whole, especially poor or abused or lone parent women.

I am most definitely in agreement about many of the issues discussed on MN re the abuse by many tw of trans rights, but I struggle to balance the harm caused by the possibility of a man in a dress barging into the loos vs the permanent gnawing fear of having to choose between heating, food, or shoes for my child all while there is constant uncertainty over keeping a roof above my head

Not trying to be a GF, interested in views. I'll never vote Tory, I just couldn't. For me social issues trump trans concerns. I do despair of some of the Labour views though, also LD and Greens. I'm not sure who there is left to vote for. But never a Tory. IMO

She'll be in the job for 2 months then there will be another reshuffle.

Only good thing is that she won't be pushing through self-ID.

I'm not sure who there is left to vote for.

When they are all the same and you are lost remember you have the right to deface your ballot.
Your turnout will be counted but you will not be morally responsible for the chaos created by any party.

Just make it clear why you've defaced it.

For me it is a lot more than the harm being done by a man in the loos. There are physical dangers to adult women from the erosion of female spaces. Also it is the pernicious nature of this ideology that does so much harm to the mental health of young (often vulnerable) young people and causes them to permanently damage their bodies.

Liz Truss alone isn't going to put women in poverty. The hard right Tory Gov can do that with or without her. As W&E minister there are some things she can choose to do that could push back on transgenderism.

We've always been between a rock and a hard place on this issue.

She has a halo. I'm in awe of her. I wonder if she eats shoots and leaves every day.

It's highly unlikely that Boris has given this portfolio to Liz Truss because he wants her to do anything with it.

It most likely signals inertia for the trans agenda for the time being. Which is better for us than it is for them.

Truss herself is neither a friend to ordinary women nor a friend to transactivism.

No minister is likely to hold back the people pushing the agenda, the major pharma players rarely get held back by anyone.

I don't really get the "must agree with the whole slate" approach.

Liz Truss' politics seem largely in line with those of her party. No surprise there. This will be why her constituents elected her.

The gender issue is seperate. It is human and universal. It appears that many on the left have adopted genderism uncritically. And plenty on the right have decided that it is not a hill worth dying on. An individual's views will be formed by their influences and life experiences. Penny Mordaunt's position was probably more surprising than Liz Truss'. We can welcome the fact that Liz is solid and brave on this issue.

David TC Davies is a good example. It made no sense for him to stand out so alone, for so long, facing so much stick to offer real and practical support to left leaning groups like WPUK.......till you realised that the GenderGP herself operated out of his constituency. My best guess remains that he chose to follow through a constituency issue/complaint through to the National stage. Many of his other politics are to the right wing of his party, but this does not stop me admiring him on this issue.
