Ruth Hunt made a life Peer by Theresa May

This highly controversial appointment from the former PM means that Ruth Hunt, the former Stonewall Chief Executive, can now sit in the House of Lords as one of our national law makers.

Ruth Hunt will now often be looked to to speak up and advise other Peers on behalf of lesbians Shock and to speak for the LGB community, because of her former Stonewall role. Because many people don’t realise that Ruth Hunt and Stonewall’s agenda is very problematic for lesbians and for women in general.

Stonewall (and Hunt specifically) dismissed lesbians and women’s concerns by denying there is any clash of rights within Stonewall’s corporate agenda around ‘acceptance with exception’.

Stonewall’s absolute prioritisation of genderism has been criticised within the LGB community including by the original founders of Stonewall itself, and by many others who (like most of us) understand the need to uphold sex-based rights, privacy, dignity, safeguarding, offer same-sex spaces, opportunities, services, and accept the legitimacy of same-sex attraction.

Now that Hunt has been given this platform, we will need to be even more vocal about the obvious problems with the genderist agenda with our Parliamentarians.

TimeLady · 10/09/2019 06:34

Words fail me.....

LoveGrowsWhere · 10/09/2019 06:36

Who made the recommendation?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 10/09/2019 06:44

And now it comes together.

Almost every single one of TM's appointments is terrible: a convicted domestic abuser, her two former chiefs of staff, the man came up with the failed brexit deal, her personal chef and loads of Tory MPs and donors.

FeminismandWomensFights · 10/09/2019 07:27

The list of May’s appointees is in the BBC link in the OP from today.
It’s such a vindication of letting down women (or even hitting them, in some cases on that list).

On the upside Cressida Dick, the well respected boss of London Metropolitan Police (and as it happens lesbian) is also on the list. But Dick as far as I know isn’t a campaigner on LGB issues. Though I hear that she has been supportive of women in policing so that is good.

It’s very disappointing that Ruth Hunt who has made uncritically centring the T a massive part of her career, as well as ignoring protest by those affected by the genderist dogma she supports, will now be looked to by other members of the Lords to guide them on LGBT issues -because of her Stonewall days.

Hopefully the first time Ruth Hunt pulls out #nodebate as the trump card in the Lords (Shock my irony meter has already been broken this morning..) , the other Peers will see the illogicality, misogyny, homophobia and anti-safeguarding agenda within this cultish thinking and they will immediately cop on to what this is about.

I won’t hold my breath. Liz Barker is rabidly in favour of giving women’s rights to men, and nobody seems to have stood up to her. This increases the antipathy to lesbians who object to men in their spaces.

OvaHere · 10/09/2019 08:06

This is dreadful. She actively tried to remove a protected characteristic from the Equality Act during her time at Stonewall.

nauticant · 10/09/2019 08:11

Hunt calculated that standing up for men and throwing women under the bus would work out very well for Hunt. She was right. She has been highly rewarded for this move.

LangCleg · 10/09/2019 08:26

And now it comes together.

Quite.

And we are the ones with shadowy right wing support?

ProbablyShouldntbut · 10/09/2019 08:30

Not really surprising that a Conservative Prime Minister rewards someone who has energetically promoted an individualistic political agenda.

HandsOffMyRights · 10/09/2019 08:30

Disturbing and yes, coming together nicely.

BeMoreMagdalen · 10/09/2019 08:50

It's a mark of true oppression when your lackeys get peerages for trying to destroy their own sex based rights.

nettie434 · 10/09/2019 09:14

And we are the ones with shadowy right wing support?

Indeed! I wish I could remember who started the thread on regulatory capture on this board. Very prescient.

Prion I know.. just grasping at straws. They will think it privately because they aren’t stupid.. but a lot of them will be cowed by the ID politics and keep quiet and allow the apparently righteous to represent ‘the voice of’ LGB people.

Alternative spokespeople needed, stat.
Who are the gender critical Peers, do we know?

I have to hand it to Theresa May, she is so consistent in her stupidity and inability to read the room that it's actually a skill. Every time I start thinking that she wasn't completely useless, she does something like this.

nettie434 · 10/09/2019 09:23

Langcleg Preening entirely justified! Grin

truthisarevolutionaryact · 10/09/2019 09:23

Given that Stonewall gave a special award to a very senior civil servant whose main claim to fame was forcing women to share toilets with men, we shouldn't be surprised at the advice that May was given by said civil servants. They are some of the main recipients of Stonewall's champagne dinners and rewards so of course they will reward in kind.

OvaHere · 10/09/2019 09:52

In part funded by taxpayers if you hadn't already felt kicked in the teeth enough.

Shethey · 10/09/2019 09:56

No. This is too fecking depressing for words. Who put her forward, who supported this? Sigh. When is this all going to come to a head? I really fear it won’t be in my lifetime 🙁

Michelleoftheresistance · 10/09/2019 10:05

Women who do well in politics don't get to those positions or reap any rewards without making themselves thoroughly useful to men and men's agendas. They get there by winning at the game of patriarchy.

This creates the infuriating and sad truth that women in positions of power in the UK - while giving the illusion that women are gradually getting more representation - are self interested and out for their own personal gain, and not only are no friends of women but will actively and vigorously harm women's interests in the name of getting their pats on the head from the powerful men.

Sickening. Hunt is a traitor to women and especially to lesbians and will always be remembered for playing a heroic part in trying to stamp women's and homosexual rights back to the 19th century.
