Apparently “gender neutral” means trousers aka the male default. This is utterly insane. I mean I wouldn’t have minded the choice of trousers or skirts for either sex but only trousers?

Just ignoring the fact that you were so woefully wrong about my questions re inversions and yoga skirts are you?

Yes I'm ignoring you. It is an irrelevant detail.

But OMG re Wimbledon. Here we all are assuming that Wimbledon does not allow shorts for women- but it does.

What a monstrous injustice because applying Decomposing's "logic" no man would ever choose a skirt and women have 2 choiced. 'Snot fair !

MargueritaBlue · 09/09/2019 20:46

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer

Are you back from the telegraph pole or posting from it? I suppose you'd get a good mobile signal up there.

MargueritaBlue · 09/09/2019 20:48

CharlieParley

Not that it matters

It clearly does- so thank you for that post.

Fraggling · 09/09/2019 20:49

Women can wear shorts at Wimbledon.
There is nothing barring men wearing skirts.
Link ^^

Decomposing is going to explode with outrage.

Maybe that will stop them having a go at margeurita for not being utterly outraged at seeing a woman in a short skirt and leotard type thing at an exercise class.

Someone is obsessed with people's genitals 'falling out'. From teen boys to adult women, apparently we are all one step away from having our bits and bobs flopping out all over the shop.

I saw some squaddies out in skin tight mini dresses once. The lumps and bumps were visible from the front. They managed not to drop a bollock though. Assume had old school pants on under.

It was interesting as seeing the dresses on fit young men made me realise just how revealing the strandard evening wear for girls is, we're just used to seeing it. I mean I knew in theory, but having a big strong man wearing one and seeing how it left nothing to the imagination was quite an eye opener, as it were.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 09/09/2019 20:49

I’m still up it marguerita

Ive got the belt loop of my jeans hooked on something

Its ok though, high waisted jeans so no one can see my butt

Im sure once those nice fireman have stopped laughing I’ll be down in a jiffy

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 09/09/2019 20:49

But yeah...mobile signal is better than inside my house so thats a bonus

DecomposingComposers · 09/09/2019 20:50

Yes I'm ignoring you. It is an irrelevant detail.

Yeah, you know what. Someone with integrity would actually apologise for getting something so wrong, especially for then insulting my intelligence in the process.

But, there you go. Says more about you than me.

Fraggling · 09/09/2019 20:52

Decomposing, how do you feel about the Wimbledon dress code?

Do you think Martina was acting in an anti man way when she wore shorts, and setting male rights back decades?

SarahTancredi · 09/09/2019 20:52

Ive got the belt loop of my jeans hooked on something

Wouldnt have happened in a skirt

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 09/09/2019 20:56

wouldnt have happened in a skirt

Fair point

I’ll do that next time

DecomposingComposers · 09/09/2019 21:01

Do you think Martina was acting in an anti man way when she wore shorts, and setting male rights back decades?

Why would it be anti man?

What is really making me laugh on this thread is how vehemently people are arguing that skirts offer so much more freedom of movement, especially very short skirts and how they are no impediment at all to anything a woman might want to do when usually, particularly on this board the very opposite argument is put forward. Usually skirts are seen as an hindrance that stop women and girls from fully participating. What a turn of events.

Fraggling · 09/09/2019 21:05

So you do think Martina wearing shorts was an affront to mens rights.

That's fine and no one is surprised.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 09/09/2019 21:06

vehemently people are arguing

Some people, lots of people have different opinions on all sorts of things

DecomposingComposers · 09/09/2019 21:07

So you do think Martina wearing shorts was an affront to mens rights

That's fine and no one is surprised.

Do I? Maybe you could point out where I said that then?

Maybe it's in the same place where margerita got her made up posts from too.

MargueritaBlue · 09/09/2019 21:09

You are avoiding the issue Decomposing

How do you feel about this blatantly sexist and unfair policy at Wimbledon?

You have argued for page after page that equality means the same number of choices. You have argued for page after page that offering men the choice of a skirt is not a true choice. By your logic Wimbledon are giving men less choice.

Fraggling · 09/09/2019 21:11

Yes Wimbledon are being sexist and awful and setting equality back.

Women should only be allowed to wear skirts, as men are unlikely to chose skirts.

This is exactly your whole entire point.

They mention tracksuits for both which doesn't get away from the gross inequality and open oppression of male competitors.

DecomposingComposers · 09/09/2019 21:13

MargueritaBlue

Are you kidding me? Might I refer you to your response to me Yes I'm ignoring you.

You fucked up and then delighted in trying to insult me to boot.

Thanks, but I don't think I will respond to you anymore.

Tyrotoxicity · 09/09/2019 21:14

I'm just thinking about this skorts option - thank you to whoever mentioned them upthread - and I'd like to change my short-legged preference. Because that garment is a brilliant pragmatic response to some of the competing and opposing pressures women and girls face.

Got the two-tubes for: anti-chub-rub; increased sense of security; giving girls a non-sexualised option. And it's got one-tube benefits too: it allows anti-skirt girls to participate without having to waste energy fortifying themselves against peer pressure.

Obviously not suitable for the thrush-prone, so I wouldn't want to make it the only short-legs option women get. But I like it. Would wear one happily so long as the shorts part was long enough. That would have made a real difference to my willingness to participate in PE at secondary school.

DecomposingComposers · 09/09/2019 21:15

Women should only be allowed to wear skirts, as men are unlikely to chose skirts.

Not at all.

Men and women could both be given the option of shorts and tracksuits (though never seen anyone play in a tracksuit). Do away with skirts completely.

Tyrotoxicity · 09/09/2019 21:19

Usually skirts are seen as an hindrance that stop women and girls from fully participating.

Long skirts = physical hindrance.

Short skirts = psychological hindrance.

MargueritaBlue · 09/09/2019 21:20

You fucked up and then delighted in trying to insult me to boot

No sweetie the person who "fucked up" is you. Your whole "equal means the same number of choices" argument is blown out of the water by the dress code at Wimbledon.

Re the yoga point I guess CharleyParley's post sailed over your head. Although the yoga issue is wholly irrelevant to the actual subject of the thread.

Re skirts being so impractical why not ask this glorious woman?

Here she is. At Wimbledon.

Girls wearing skirts not allowed into school - could only be Brighton
Tyrotoxicity · 09/09/2019 21:22

Men and women could both be given the option of shorts and tracksuits (though never seen anyone play in a tracksuit). Do away with skirts completely.

Banning that which is coded feminine, and forcing everyone to adopt that which is coded masculine, is equality?

Have to say, Decomposing, you are not being a particularly effective ambassador for the concept of equality. In fact you're making it look like a very effective mechanism for maintaining the patriarchal status quo.

MargueritaBlue · 09/09/2019 21:24

Men and women could both be given the option of shorts and tracksuits (though never seen anyone play in a tracksuit). Do away with skirts completely

Nice.

You are advocating removing choice from women.

You are advocating removing a choice which makes no difference to men.

You are advocating removing a choice which is clearly a preference for one of the greatest female tennis players ever.

Nice.

DecomposingComposers · 09/09/2019 21:25

No sweetie

Really? I'm not your "sweetie".

And yes, you fucked up.

DecomposingComposers · 09/09/2019 21:27

Banning that which is coded feminine, and forcing everyone to adopt that which is coded masculine, is equality?

Really? Shorts are masculine are they? Funny. I thought trousers and shorts were unisex.
