Let me what's so wrong with Stonewall?

I try as best I can to follow the current trans and women's rights issues - I think I'm fairly clued up. I've been waiting for these issues to crop up at my 'right on' (global, corporate) workplace and lo and behold last week I saw them declare that they were looking to partner with Stonewall.
From reading these threads I've picked up on 'stonewall bad' but if I'm going to challenge this at work I need something more concrete to use. Can anyone advise me? Or offer any advice on how to approach this with work?

"Stonewall’s all-in enthusiasm for transgender ideology has led it to behave in some unfortunate ways.

In 2015, Stonewall sought to have protection for single sex spaces removed from the Equality Act.
Stonewall formed a Trans Advisory Committee and appointed to its ranks some of the most extreme trans activists in the UK who have been responsible for bullying and harrassing women.
In the summer of 2018, Stonewall denounced a small group of lesbians who protested at London Pride as transphobic.
Stonewall’s campaign for reforms to the Gender Recognition Act ignored the evidence that its preferred policies would put women and girls in danger.
Stonewall disapproved of Transgender Trend’s advice to schools and attempted to discredit the work of this important grassroots group by slandering their schools guidance.
Stonewall has taken no responsibility for its role in legitimising the aggressive, totalitarian tactics of trans activists who have sought to frighten women from assembling to discuss the impact of GRA reforms."

They are lobbying for sex based right to be removed from the equality act, meaning they no longer hold the belief that homosexuality is same sex attraction.

Datun · 24/08/2019 14:31

You could ask them whether or not homosexuality is still based on same-sex attraction. And not let them get away with using the words woman and man, when that can mean the opposite. Ask them if homosexuality is based on attraction to one's own sex.

And if it isn't, why are they representing gay people, lesbian people, bisexual people? How are they defining those people? Because if it isn't based on sex, two men engaged in anal sex can be called lesbians. Or heterosexuals, if one identifies as a woman.

Ask them how they are going to protect the category of homosexuality, if it no longer has a definition based on sex? Homosexuality (sexual orientation) being a protected characteristic under equality law of course. How are they going to uphold equality law, if their definition of homosexuality and the definition in that law, is different?

I don't think most people realise that Stonewall has sold every single gay man and woman down the river.

Most people don't care.
Oh look a pretty rainbow.

Thanks all. Some good info here. Can I check that transgender trends = good? Also, is there maybe a better organisation that I can suggest my company partner with rather than Stonewall?

They advised English rugby - who think it’s hunky dory for an intact man to be on a woman’s team.

Kit19 · 24/08/2019 15:00

Do they want a partner to advise on policy & inclusivity @ all that? Or do they want corporate lgbt brownie points?

If they want to just show CSR on lgbt issues & Depending on where you are, How about “opening doors” which is an organisation for older lgbt ppl and runs visiting services & social groups

Habbers · 24/08/2019 15:05

Transgender trend is all about the kids. As is Safe Schools Alliance. They're primarily about safeguarding children, of all identities. Not just one trumping another.

ThePurported · 24/08/2019 15:39

Simon Fanshawe, one of the co-founders of Stonewall (who is very critical of the direction they have taken in recent years), is involved in Diversity by Design. Can't vouch for them but here is their website

In 2015, Stonewall sought to have protection for single sex spaces removed from the Equality Act.
Can I just repeat how dangerous this is for women, especially in the mental health wards, Rape crisis and DV services.

Nellodee put his into context recently;
''Just under 90% of assaults take place in mixed sex changing rooms. Under half of all changing rooms are mixed sex. This is a horrifying statistic, but doesn't seem to have the impact it should have.
There were 14 attacks reported in single sex changing rooms vs 134 in mixed. That's over 9 to 1.

mixed sex changing rooms are associated with more than an 800% increase in sexual attacks on women''.

Another problem with mixed sex facilities are spy cameras and voyeurism.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 24/08/2019 15:53

Whenever I hear the ‘advised by’ or ‘working with’ Stonewall I tend to avoid.

Needmoresleep · 24/08/2019 15:53

Stonewall is a lobby group who also give policy advice and training.

A clear conflict of interest.

There are some good older threads on the subject - follow the links in the thread above.

Thank you all so much. I feel much better informed now. Will do some more prep and raise it at work. Fingers crossed they are open to listening

Good luck OP and thank you for doing this Flowers

Simon Fanshaw was one of the original founders of Stonewall. He now despairs of their current position and has an equality and diversity consultancy. He is active on Twitter you should be able to find a link from his profile there.

For people who are supposedly so sure of the validity of their argument, there's an awful lot of 'please tell me what to say' requests on here. Hmm

Better than sprouting off things with no understanding at all isn't it, at least when questioned the ability to explain an opinion is actually there.

sueanddumplings · 25/08/2019 15:25

I can see why you probably need some help with your grammar.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 25/08/2019 15:34

Grammar there was fine, it's understandable. Spelling on d otter hand is a bit less accurate.
No way I'm sayin'?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 25/08/2019 15:36

I can see why, you probably need help with your grammar

Fixed it for you.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 25/08/2019 15:38

If you need more help, please ask. We can work it out together, here at the bottom.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 25/08/2019 15:42

We can condensed the ladder.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 25/08/2019 18:28

Bump.

Needmoresleep · 26/08/2019 11:33

I'm confused. Do Stonewall now give grammar lessons?

I am trying to imagine how they would go about this.

Transwomen are women.

Statement, hypothesis or slogan?
