Ealing Broadway station toilets

Hey quick question @TfL will this reduce female provision at Ealing Broadway? Are the existing male facilities staying and men just need more toilets somehow?

The existing female toilets are going to be converted to male and female toilets.

(Do we have a thread where examples of this sort of thing are collected?)

Oh ffs. Do they not consult actual experts on this sort of thing, like Clara Greed? It was after listening to her Woman's Place talk that I realized that women are already hugely disadvantaged. Or is this the first stage of both mens and ladies toilets being changed to mixed sex (I think not).

Great idea Tfl, lets give men more and women less.

SnuggyBuggy · 21/08/2019 07:28

So whats happening to the men's toilets?

2BthatUnnoticed · 21/08/2019 07:40

Interesting - they didn’t give women access to the men’s even for 12 days.

But they will then be giving men access to the womens’ toilets - forever?

KatvonHostileExtremist · 21/08/2019 08:15

Are they out of their minds?
Station toilets. Great. I'm so sick to the back teeth of this backshittery

You know who helped persuade them to get rid of "ladies and gentlemen" announcements? Aimmeeee furry nappy wearing fetish challenor. Well for listening tfl. Slow fucking hand clap.

They are idiots.

Eggotchi · 21/08/2019 08:23

Ffs! They really don't think anything through, do they? I would contact the station manager and complain/educate (him, presumably!) on the importance of women only spaces!

KatvonHostileExtremist · 21/08/2019 08:40

If we don't stop it now, they will do it everywhere. I know they will.

Jesus baker street toilets are grim enough without letting men in. Tfl staff have (or used to have) their own key, so although they use the block they have a much less trashed loo.
Of all the places to have unisex loos, this is the most dangerous I think. And just grim. It's so bloody unfair

SheWhoMustBeSilent · 21/08/2019 09:43

This is sex discrimination, surely? Women are being treated differently from men, simply because they are women.

This station must also convert the male toilets for use by females and males to avoid a charge of sex discrimination.

AnotherNightWatering · 21/08/2019 09:44

Maybe they'll close the men's, and it'll become staff toilets!

I think we need more information about this. Is it going to be rolled out to more stations? Hopefully, The Times will investigate... Yet nothing will be done to stop it.

Imnobody4 · 21/08/2019 09:50

Funny, I thought they were supposed to be clamping down on sexual assaults and harassment of women on public transport not enabling it.

Procrastinator2 · 21/08/2019 10:00

If TFL's policy is to introduce mixed sex toilets the we ought to investigate judicial review against this.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 21/08/2019 10:07

The wording is odd. Converting the female toilets into male and female toilet facilities sounds like they are splitting the ladies into 2 separate lots of loos.

Surely it should say 'converting the female toilets into mixed sex facilities.'

LetsSplashMummy · 21/08/2019 10:09

I think they are probably just reducing their toilet provision, not going mixed sex. The wording doesn't indicate gender in any way.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 21/08/2019 10:14

I think they are probably just reducing their toilet provision, not going mixed sex

The sign is dated 12-16th Aug, which clearly means that specific facility (previously known as female toilets) will reopen after that (as male and female toilets).

There is no reference to male toilets being closed or changed at all.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 21/08/2019 10:21

Well that took me all of 10 seconds to find:

There's probably more but I CBA to search every pdf and csv listed.

Qcng · 21/08/2019 10:27

Maybe the male toilets are tiny and the ladies are massive, do they're evening out the provision?

I agree, it sounds as though they're making a bit of the ladies area the men's area, rather than creating a mixed sex facility. Unless they've worded it really badly and they are going mixed sex. Which would be a nightmare. Can't see that being popular with the population of Ealing (which has a high number of immigrants, many from conservative religious background).

Imworkingonit · 21/08/2019 10:48

It looks like there's a lot of building work planned. Mention of modifying the toilets so a lift can be installed.

TheInebriati · 21/08/2019 10:55

How do we contact them to ask whats actually happening?

Teddybear45 · 21/08/2019 10:58

Ealing Broadway probably doesn’t have any operational male toilets at the moment due to them building a lift there.

AgnesNaismith · 21/08/2019 11:31

I called them earlier to confirm and made a formal complaint. The number is: ‭0343 222 1234‬

They don’t know exactly how the toilets will be structured - which is odd as the works are ending next week? The guy on the phone was really sympathetic and lovely, he called Ealing and said the person he spoke to there was also very understanding. I think the more complaints logged the better!

My complaint was twofold - it’s unfair on people with disabilities to share as they currently have limited provisions and the concern over mixed sex toilets.

Hulo · 21/08/2019 12:11

I think it's worth kicking up a fuss whether it's temporary, just badly worded or whatever just to make it very clear that we're watching and any will vociferously resist any attempts to remove single-sex provision if they so much as consider it.

We're not having it

(Get the men portaloos if they need to)

Deathraystare · 21/08/2019 12:15

Surely it should say 'converting the female toilets into mixed sex facilities.'

Women's toilets are not roomy at the best of times so how r they going to convert them???!!

TerfTalk · 21/08/2019 12:19

Isn’t this illegal?

thefirstmrsdewinter · 21/08/2019 12:36

The TfL press office has told at least one person that lifts are being installed where the men's loos currently are so the women's will be split into separate men's and women's.
I'm not sure I buy it as they don't seem to be replying to tweets or making any kind of public statement. But if this is what they start telling people, good to be prepared to ask for more info.
My concern is that, whatever the actual plan is, it doesn't seem to be stated anywhere that there will be separate loos once the lift is installed. 'Male and female toilet facilities' may mean separate loos or it may mean mixed loos, you could argue it either way.

AmIInvisible · 21/08/2019 13:14

I'm on my phone and can't access Ealing Planning but there should be plans on their planning portal we can look at. I will check tonight at home and report back.

AnotherNightWatering · 21/08/2019 13:38

The plans are here, from 2017. Maybe someone here can read and understand them. Smile
