Hey quick question @TfL will this reduce female provision at Ealing Broadway? Are the existing male facilities staying and men just need more toilets somehow?

The existing female toilets are going to be converted to male and female toilets.

(Do we have a thread where examples of this sort of thing are collected?)

I've just had a very quick look through the top few documents on that list AnotherNight and I can't see anything relating to the alteration of toilet provision.

Wiser people than me may see something different though!

Someone on Twitter linked to the tfl complaints line number, 0345 222 1234, so I called and eventually spoke to Steve, who seemed a little nonplussed, and is finding out more. I am phoning back later (I had to go out - on hold for a while).

My local hospital out patient department has made all the toilets mixed sex. I know hospital toilets aren't the most salubrious places, but these are all just like the average gents toilets now.
I had to go in there yesterday and all the seats were left up, piss on the floor and all over the toilets. Male urine stinks.
There are enough to make half male, half female IMO.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 21/08/2019 14:23

I've just looked at the plans and can see the toilets proposed but can't see any existing plans to compare with.

At concourse level there are 6 cubicles in, what I assume will be, the women's loos. Three cubicles and 3 urinals in the men's.

At platform level there are two blocks of loos shown, one with two cubicles and what may be a urinal block but could also be a baby changing area and another block with four cubicles in but is very badly drawn and access into it is not clear.

But also, TFL have confirmed on twitter that provision is staying separated by sex, no plans for mixed.

Looks like things are staying single sex but with less provision for all as a result of their building work.
"Hi there, the current female toilet is closed. This will be converted into separate male, female and disabled toilets. The current male toilets are still open, and the current disabled one will become the temporary women's toilet. Both will make way for a lift in due course. -Sol"

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 21/08/2019 15:08

So one female toilet will now be divided to cater for three groups?

And do they mean one multi functional mixed sex space or three distinct spaces?

It feels like they are speaking very very carefully so as not to flat-out lie but not be upfront either.

PurpleHoodie · 21/08/2019 15:14

The men's toilets are going to make way for the lifts.

The Disabled toilets remain for mixed-sex disabled access use.
The women's toilets are being stripped out and separate single sex toilet areas (women's and men's) are going to be created. Less facilities all round, but single sex.

Xalia · 21/08/2019 15:16

just to make it very clear that we're watching and any will vociferously resist any attempts to remove single-sex provision if they so much as consider it.

We're not having it.

It's posts like this that make me feel proud to be a (biological) woman.

Gives me strength, Iyswim?

Just saying Wink

Thanks Hulo

FYI

*Thanks for your call of 21 August about the toilets at Ealing Broadway.

There has been some confusion on the wording used in the original poster that went out to the station. The posters have been reprinted and will be displayed at the station with the correct wording. I’m very sorry for the confusion this has caused.

Please note there will not be and has never been uni-sex toilets at this station/ or TfL rail any station. The female toilets were closed originally to allow the conversion of the facilities into separate male and female toilets.

The access to the male and female toilets has changed, this is to allow works to commence for step free access, and the number of male and female toilets has reduced slightly.

The accessible toilet remains in the same location, but in due course, this will be relocated as well. The dates for this will be announced in due course.

Thank you for continued patience and once again, I’m very sorry for any inconvenience caused.

If there is anything else we can help you with, please reply to this email. Alternatively, you can call us on 0343 222 1234 and we'll be happy to help you.
Kind regards*

Glad to hear there will still be single sex provision. Good work, those who followed up.

LauraMipsum · 29/08/2019 13:12

I'm glad (as a very frequent user of this station) that they are finally getting round to installing a lift. It's seriously inaccessible which is not good for a station serving two underground lines and mainline trains as well. It's a shame that toilet provision will be reduced to accommodate it but realistically I don't think there would be anywhere else the lift could go, unless they took away the cornish pasty stand and installed an inflatable slide.
