I just saw this, my heart just breaks for this woman and I am so angry. I don’t understand how he can only be given a suspended sentence especially given what her son say’s about the physical abuse his mother most likely endured. Just feel sick.

The link just goes to the DM homepage, what's the story please?

Mishtry · 18/07/2019 12:28

Sorry I’m having trouble with clicky links. Ralph jankus is the piece of shit who’s wife died after he inserted a barbed instrument into her anus. Judge said he considered it to be consensual and gave him an 18 month sentence. Google it.

Oh my good lord Sad

sakura184 · 18/07/2019 12:47

Compare it to the decades of jail time that women get for killing an abusive husband in self defense after years of abuse

Doyoumind · 18/07/2019 12:48

The judge was a man, clearly with no understanding of abusive relationships. He probably thinks sticking sharp objects up someone's arse is totally normal.

AlessandraAsteriti · 18/07/2019 12:49

My god this story. Germans do seem to hate women, and so does German law, so I cannot say I am that surprised by the verdict. I'd never would have moved to Germany had I known what an awful place for women it is.

When I read about the witchcraze I learned that German women were among the worst affected by the peresecutions

wigglybluelines · 18/07/2019 13:06

The law is failing women. I don't care whether she consented on the day. This is not a relationship of equal partners. This is a man abusing a woman and ending up killing her.

Forensic specialists came to the conclusion that Christel must have had some sort of barbed hook inserted into her and when it was removed it perforated her bowel.

Her 30-year-old son, who has not been named, claimed his mother had been abused as a child and was mentally unstable.

He said his mother was dominated by her new husband and had started wearing clothes to cover up alleged injuries.

According to local media, she had previously reported her partner for abuse in 2017, but later withdrew her complaint and spent some time in a psychiatric clinic.

Her son claims that she fled to a women's shelter in 2018, before returning happier and wanting to marry her partner in July of the same year.

He said: "She had injuries over her whole body and especially in her genital area.

"I warned her that she was putting up with too much and that it should never have gone this far."

He claims that Jankus "abused, mistreated and humiliated" his mother, but added: "I do think she loved him though."

The son's unnamed partner, who is also a court witness, said: "We had no idea about the violence at first, but over time it became more apparent.

"She was not allowed to leave the apartment and was forced to take drugs. She was beaten for going to the hairdressers without permission."

Just days after proudly announcing his marriage on social media, Ralph posted: "I want to thank you all for the goodwill messages on our wedding day.

"Unfortunately, I have to tell you that my dear wife died suddenly just eight days after our wedding. All the happiness I have experienced was during the years with my wife."

The couple had been together since 2011.

As a married woman, I cannot fill the tax return, it has to be in my husband's name, because he is the head of the house. Abortion is still technically illegal. There are only two women in my university department (I am one of them). And don't get me started on their prostitution laws (sorry sex work, sorry slavery)

Coyoacan · 18/07/2019 15:12

Whao, AlessandraAsteriti, I'd never imagined that Germany was so bad.

RosaWaiting · 18/07/2019 15:17

Alessandra I didn’t know that, oh dear.

AngelsSins · 18/07/2019 17:28

Alessandra what happens if a married couple are separated re tax return? Or if the husband is stationed abroad for work, or incompacitated I need some way? It seems utterly archaic.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 18/07/2019 17:34

Judge said he considered it to be consensual and gave him an 18 month sentence.

Haven’t read the story yet, will now, but, if it was consensual, why find him guilty and give any sentence??

AlessandraAsteriti · 18/07/2019 17:38

@AngelsSins
I am not sure, but I do know that the tax form has to be in my husband's name even if he is currently not working, so it is my income. I did the form online, and it was renamed with his name, I thought it had been hacked, then the company told me it is the law. On the other hand, if I had been in a same sex couple, it could have been in either name ( I guess if it is two women it does not matter, as neither is a man and so more important than the other...)

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 18/07/2019 17:42

Ok have read the link upthread. I’m guessing the guilty verdict was for not calling an ambulance sooner.

That woman was a vulnerable person. I’m genuinely not convinced she was in a state of mind to be have been able to consent to what he did to her.

ralphi · 18/07/2019 17:48

Alessandra: you can return a German Tax form using the elster online System using either name (man or woman) if you are declaring together (presumably tax class 4 "gemeinsam veranlagt") . ...assuming of course that are registered as a tax Resident. If you are married you can decide to be taxed together or separately. Not sure who gave you that info...

AlessandraAsteriti · 18/07/2019 18:46

Of course not class 4 if my husband is currently not working.... the information is correct, from an online company (SteuerGo) and from the Lohnsteuerhilfeverein. I have to say it is very annoying when somebody comes online to explain my life to me, and I have to believe you are German, as Germans seem particularly fond of telling people they are wrong without having any knowledge of the details.

Mishtry · 18/07/2019 19:14

It just breaks my heart, this poor woman had what sounds like such a difficult life and the way she died is just horrific. In the last year or so it’s dawned on me how women are still literally at the bottom of the pile. What he did was torture, it must have been excruciating for her.

I feel so stupid believing the bollocks about womens rights getting better. A judge in a western developed country can look it this case and just go “oh well” is beyond me. How many times will the BDSM excuse be trotted out. He should have died in prison.

Alessandra fyi I am British.

justasking111 · 18/07/2019 19:48

I do wonder sometimes what judges do in their spare time.

ralphi · 18/07/2019 19:51

And without wanting to derail this thread, my German tax return has me listed as the first recipient and my husband second.

ZebrasAreBras · 18/07/2019 20:02

Christel must have had some sort of barbed hook inserted into her and when it was removed it perforated her bowel.

Honestly, I don't know how anyone can consent to having a barbed hooked object inserted in their rectum. Is thing a thing? It's so, so dangerous. I mean, I know there's some pretty extreme BDSM going on out there - but what is unsurprising is that it is nearly always the woman who suffers death from BDSM, "rough sex" or "sex game gone wrong".

How so we know that these reams of women who have suffered fates like this poor woman, haven't been coerced into this? They are dead. How can we trust the man's word - the word of the man who did this to her, and killed her, that she "consented" ?? Of course he's going to say that. "Consent" - for me - is not a valid defence. At some point people have to ask -Is it reasonable behaviour for this man to have done this to this woman? My answer would be no.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 18/07/2019 20:11

It doesn’t mention a toxicology report in the article but i’ll Be really surprised if she wasn’t unconscious or very close to it as a result of drink or drugs when this part of the assault happened.

Ereshkigal · 18/07/2019 22:52

Horrific Angry reminds me of the Natalie Connolly case here.
