Why are bras so ridiculously uncomfortable? And phones and...

It is all just made for men isn't it?

I can't find a decent smartphone that fits in my hand any more never mind my pocket (I get those sewn in by the tailor now since they are mostly absent from women's clothes these days). I got tennis elbow and the physio partly blames the phone and banned me from typing on it rendering it fairly useless.

I hate bra shopping, it is always the same and I am always driven to it by summer heat making the usually uncomfortable completely unbearable.

Why all the sharp pointy scratchy spikes and lacy ribbony stupid bits and pinchy elastic everywhere?

I am allergic to latex which makes it all nigh impossible and not as svelte as I used to be so braless is no longer an option.

I am feeling very frustrated with it all and have been reading Invisible Women which is an incredible book and is making me brave enough to complain about what needs changed in my world!

We need women run companies making women centred design and development entirely accessible and the norm, like actual women not what men think women should settle for.

I fell some marketing abour bras - its a brand thats said to be designed by two women and something about a link between breast cancer and underwires. They have yet to arrive but i will report back if they work.
I also wonder about leg lenth and cars. I can see over the bonnet fine but to reach the steering wheel comfortably, my legs are all bunched up. Do i have a short body, or long legs or do wmen have different proprtions than men on average (in terms of the % of their body that is leg v torso)

And no one is forcing you to buy a massive phone. For god's sake!!

Melroses · 13/07/2019 20:33

My bra fits and is expensive and is still driving me up the wall. It appears to be the edge of the wire casing, especially where it joins the elastic edge of the side bits.

It is hard to find natural shaped underwired ones with a narrow back and large cup size that do not set off my menopausal duct irritations. The are all too pointy and uplifting. Non underwired ones do not work (even if you can find them) and bralets are mass produced for smaller cups and larger backs and create a monoboob under the chin.

My new mobile phone is too big and got scratched in my handbag. Sad

Melroses · 13/07/2019 20:35

Warner used to make comfortable woman shaped bras, but they got taken over by ultimo and were disappeared.

If you are not too big on top ,then you may be able to get away with wearing a vest top under your clothes. M and S do a temp controlled one ,and its great. My problem is I have a wide back and small front!.I find bra hooks (avaliable on Amazon) very good as well if I really need to wear a bra.(By the way what happened about that Bra Burning stuff from the 70s!)

Chiochan · 13/07/2019 20:40

I have massive tits so make sure I get very well fitted bras that provide a full days support at work. But bras are uncomfortable and I resent being forced in to physical discomfort, sometimes quite substantial, for no benifit to myself and purely to satisfy a society which is squemish about actual womens bodies. Id love it if it was accaptable to go braless.

Melroses · 13/07/2019 20:43

You sound barking mad @Melroses with your menopausal duct irritations!!!
Confused

madcatladyforever · 13/07/2019 20:46

I hate all bras, I've been properly measured and I only wear matronly bras now to avoid skinny straps digging in. Bloody Doreen bra - my breasts enter the room two minutes before I do.
All I want is a soft rounded looking breast without underwires, no double boob syndrome and no skinny straps.

WomenUnited · 13/07/2019 20:51

The trouble I have now with braless is the sweaty underboob and pain of no support in motion Sad

I didn't realise bras are only skinny women, how foolish of me [middle finger emoticon]

for skinny women

There simply isn't an android phone small enough for me. I've got a 4 year old Sony Xperia compact and they're not made anymore. My phone is broken in many ways but I've failed to find anything to replace it. Really pisses me off.

AntiHop · 13/07/2019 20:53

@ArgyMargy why are you being so rude?

WomenUnited · 13/07/2019 20:53

But you don't see the majority of men getting measured and squeezing their testicles into itchy underwired cups with bows on for all day every day standard wear do you?

argymargy has problems, so has come on here to make other women feel shit. Ta mate Hmm

WomenUnited · 13/07/2019 20:59

don't google testicle bra images Confused

@ArgyMargy love your approach there. If you shout "everything's fine" loudly enough everyone will stop experiencing any problems.

Argymargy your day not gone well?
If it wouldn't get deleted I would tell you to fuck right off with your unhelpful attitude.

averylongtimeago · 13/07/2019 21:10

I can't find comfy bras - I want cotton, not too fussy, supportive, non wired preferably in several colours (white, beige, navy, lilac would be my choice) which won't break the bank, and which fit a traditionally built grandma.
Oh, and which don't drop to bits after a couple of washes.

M&S used to do them, but the quality is now shite and the nice cotton ones have vanished.

averylongtimeago · 13/07/2019 21:12

Oh and while I am moaning- car seat belts: why do they always slide up over my bust and try to throttle me? Even when I have adjusted the sliding thing at shoulder height?

takemyhandtakemywholelifetoo · 13/07/2019 21:25

Doritos jars of Salsa are built for giant man hands only.

Gwynfluff · 13/07/2019 21:25

Just for info - cos, Arket, andotherstories, j crew and uniqlo all make women’s clothes with pockets in as routine.

feelingverylazytoday · 13/07/2019 21:27

Since I've lost weight and my boobs have shrunk (thankfully) I've been wearing tshirt bras from Primark, they're pretty comfortable, don't have wires or any scratchy bits or bows. I 'm never going back to underwires either, along with high heels, makeup and other 'stuff'
Never thought about phones being too big, I'm another person with big hands. Though generally if smartphones magically cease to exist I don't think I would be too upset about it.
I never get the thing about pockets, I never put stuff in them anyway, apart from coat pockets.
