Did they really come up with FART? what idiots. I do quite like Mumchan though, that pretty much sums me up.

LOL at anti-vaxxers and LOL at young parents. I joined MN when I started trying to conceive in my early thirties, back before even penis beaker, hardly young.

Wimbledonsemis · 12/07/2019 12:15

I think anti-vaxxers and trans advocates have much in common.

Unfounded, unscientific and do enormous damage to the young.

Both groups live in their self reinforcing silos and reject any debate on their fundamentalist belief systems.

Mner2019 · 12/07/2019 12:44

What is mumchan?

Boom25 · 12/07/2019 12:52

It's nothing yet, though I might start it 😁

Its a made up phrase that someone on twitter who does not approve of us made up, based on the internet image message boards 4chan and 8chan which have a reputatuon for anarchic/dodgy/hacker/robustetc discussions. But that's fine with the TRAs as they were invented by and are largely populated by men, a la Kiwi Farms

Ereshkigal · 12/07/2019 12:54

I remember a wokey blokey on my FB gleefully dancing around 'hahaha we can call them FARTs!' looonnnng before McKinnon came out with it. Think it's been doing the rounds in incel circles for some time.

I'm pretty sure they appropriated it (a different acronym) from feminists. It didn't catch on as well with women as it did with puerile males.

Brefugee · 12/07/2019 13:07

What is the "d" word in the name? Doof? Daemlich? Dumm?

"... und die AfD sind Nazis" so at least there's that. I'm not up on all the abbreviations, i know TERF but what's FART?

Mner2019 · 12/07/2019 13:21

Boom25 It could catch on!

DpWm · 12/07/2019 13:50

Calling other people "farts" makes you look like an immature, developmentally stunted idiot.
I hope more of them use it.

terryleather · 12/07/2019 14:04

a fabric with a small print of repeating viper nests

You could make fabulous MN naice scarves out of that!

I so want FWR to have a flag (and possibly a coat of arms too) but I'm scared that instead of vipers/gin/PomBears/fishfingers/retro orange Tupperware on it, it'll be a big ruddy bowl of the notorious WBH...

TurboTeddy · 12/07/2019 14:24

I've had a go at designing the flag but can't seem to upload it. I did it in word and PowerPoint but MN seems to want a photo. Any suggestions?
I'm not an IT expert as you might have guessed.

DanaPhoenix · 12/07/2019 14:33

Yeah I've seen a few trying to make FART happen (sorry not sorry).
Most guys will have the odd chuckle but in my experience (mother of 2 sons) fart jokes reach peak hilarity at around 8 years old.

Arrested development anyone?

TurboTeddy · 12/07/2019 14:38

The nest of vipers flag, first attempt!

If you don’t know what Mumsnet is be glad...
Jux · 12/07/2019 14:57

As I remember, (Lurker since 2002, Member since 2005), MN started as a site for parents of young children, not for young parents.

And we are not a "self described nest of vipers". We were described as such by a journalist from The Spectator or somewhere like that. We have revelled in that description ever since.

Tanith · 12/07/2019 15:17

If “TERF” is not a slur, as they claim, how come they try to find an offensive acronym to replace it?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 12/07/2019 15:22

They know it is and dont care?

However the actual words 'woman' 'man' and 'trans' are so dangerous they can literally erase whole swathes of the population. Fact.

ShagMeRiggins · 12/07/2019 15:28

Calling other people "farts" makes you look like an immature, developmentally stunted idiot.

I don’t see the term catching on with The Guardian, Telegraph, Times...

WhereYouLeftIt · 12/07/2019 15:34

Hmm. His tweet is likely to be counterproductive - people reading it are just as likely to be curious as to avoid. And we all know what happens then. They read and are peaked.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 12/07/2019 15:41

Grin turbo
I had to Google but it was worth it

As for FARTS they always make me laugh with that one.

Very special blue haired person no. 1 " Fuck those evil T*RFS, hope they all die in a grease fire"

Very special blue haired person no. 2 " I prefer to call them FARTS"

Very special blue haired persons persons together " ha ha ha ha"

You see it all the time. It's like a little call and response, bless them.
I honestly think it's hilarious that they think anyone would ever be genuinely offended by being called a FART especially given they are getting called that because they understand biological sex.

Oh no, they called me a FART, oh heaven's, what shall I do. Snort.

Ereshkigal · 12/07/2019 16:27

Arrested development anyone?

That cohort is fairly well represented in the TRA/TRA ally population.

Gingerkittykat · 12/07/2019 16:47

Of course us mums with our baby brains should not be allowed to talk about anything except teething, breastfeeding and knitting patterns.

Shut up women, know your place.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 12/07/2019 16:48

You can’t say breastfeeding . Triggering .

Ereshkigal · 12/07/2019 17:05

"Teething" is also upsetting for people who have lost their teeth.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 12/07/2019 17:09

And knitting . What about those with wool allergies or no hands?

Ereshkigal · 12/07/2019 17:10

Women just shouldn't speak.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 12/07/2019 17:26

I love the idea that their generic mum-bot idea would be offended by bring called a fart. My 7 yo is at peak toilet talk so being called a fart barely raises an eyebrow here. In case we needed evidence that not to much mum-ing is being done by the brave and stunning. Hmm
