Police called to National Theatre to deal with gender critical feminists sitting on chairs

twitter.com/DadRogd/status/1147181198231429124 has picture of the unfortunate police officer sent to investigate.

Earlier in his tweet thread he says:

National Theatre Green Room bar just refused to serve us. Their grounds? Allegedly, we are a political group with views a member of staff finds offensive. So they offend a dozen customers instead.

Problem is apparently with t-shirt worn by Anne Ruzylo sporting a dictionary definition of a lesbian. As someone else has pointed out the NT is in breach of the Equality Act, given that sexual orientation and sex are both protected characteristics. I wonder how this will play out.

Ok sorry just one more point on the fake twitter account. This is weird.

"Why is twitter preventing reports of this fake @sargesaIute account imitating Anne Ruzylo? I tried to report it and every time I plug her real twitter username, @sargesalute , into the field for user being imitated, twitter blanks it out and then says the report is invalid. t.co/bxWsKxnLoy "

RoyalCorgi she's basically just trolling Anne now. If she actually cared, she'd have gone off Twitter and used all of the different sources she has available to contact Anne.

If I had any reason to contact Anne (I don't, but if I did) first of all I would have contacted Posie because she has a website with contact details. If that didn't pan out, I would contact all of the other Twitter accounts where people were saying they were there. Then I would contact the person who left a review on the NT's FB page who said she was there. I would contact her local Labour constituency party because she was an elected officer there. And so on...

And note the message says "if you were there". Anne hasn't just said she was, there are videos and photos of her at the NT.

I am a trained journalist and this is a piss poor performance by this hack. I am ashamed of her (mind you, that's an all roo familiar feeling by now).

Why is twitter preventing reports of this fake @sargesaIute account imitating Anne Ruzylo? I tried to report it and every time I plug her real twitter username, @sargesalute* , into the field for user being imitated, twitter blanks it out and then says the report is invalid. t.co/bxWsKxnLoy*

I think this is because searching the real Anne is under a shadowban, as posted by a PP above.

So when you try to report an impersonator, the Twitter interface can't recognise the real Anne.

ThePurported · 07/07/2019 11:41

So we have NT, the Guardian/Observer and Twitter all twisting facts and preventing the truth about this homophobic incident from coming out.
Any comment from Stonewall yet?

CraicMammy · 07/07/2019 12:32

I believe the Equalities Commission pursued the Ashers case, maybe they would like to pursue a case on Anne’s behalf against the NT....

nauticant · 07/07/2019 12:41

This made me laugh:

twitter.com/vanessathorpe/status/1147824969373704192

Vanessa Thorpe thinks that an article she wrote yesterday related to the National Theatre might be mistaken at its end and seeks to clarify.

Oh, hang on, it's an article about farces and has nothing to do with the incident at the NT yesterday.

Grin Hmm

How on earth did journalists manage to contact anyone before Twitter

Good question, but 15 years ago, say, if an incident such as this had happened, there would have been no social media to publicise it on. So the only way the newspapers would have found out about it would have been if Anne or one of the other women had phoned the news desk up to tell them. So they'd have had the women's side of the story, and then the journalist would have phoned up the NT press office for their side.

Social media has muddied everything by allowing both sides the opportunity to get their information - or disinformation - out there very quickly to a large audience.

Tanith · 07/07/2019 13:14

This is the complaints page for IPSO - the Independent Press Standards Organisation:

www.ipso.co.uk/complain/

It looks as though they report on more than 10 complaints under Clause 12 (discrimination) if made about the same incident.

palahvah · 07/07/2019 13:41

Thought it has been established that the NT took issue not with the t-shirts (or lesbianism) but with the placards protesting treatments for trans teenagers?

Ereshkigal · 07/07/2019 14:10

It's quite clear in the many videos from different angles that there are no placards.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 07/07/2019 14:13

looks as if the guardian is not regulated by IPSO unfortunately

Bom7 · 07/07/2019 14:29

The real account has a shadowban.

I tried to report the fake one too but the real one didn't come up in the report page where you search for the account that is being impersonated.

I'm wondering is the person who created the fake account then reported the real one as being a fake!

Lumene · 07/07/2019 14:30

No it isn’t. Nor is Pink News. Interesting isn’t it, given the vastly biased nature of the coverage.

You can write to the guardian’s readers editor though.

DuMondeB · 07/07/2019 14:35

I googled ‘Anne Ruzylo’

Real Anne’s twitter is the top hit. Either that journalist is crap or that journalist is disingenuous.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 07/07/2019 14:45

I suspect that journalist is crap. but it's just a guess. she could be disingenuous

tobee · 07/07/2019 14:47

Well I agree with @RoyalCorgi

CharlieParley · 07/07/2019 15:08

palahvah those refused service had no placards, as evidenced by the videos and photographs of the group in the NT.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 07/07/2019 15:17

The social media silence from the usual agitators trying to whip up hysteria about uppity women is strangely deafening.

Nobody seems able to adequately explain or defend this as a righteous decision by NT.

Funny that.

HeronLanyon · 07/07/2019 16:34

Just passed the green room on bus. Looked quiet and calm. Didn’t have time to hop down from Waterloo bridge and go ask some questions.

BatShite · 07/07/2019 16:52

I am more than willing to believe the journalist is just crap, rather than pusposely misleading. But even than opens up questions, given she now knows she was crap and still has not corrected anything nor seemingly, contacted the real anne, and she definitely knows now what the real account is (she knew then what the real account was given she quoted it, but will ignore that for sake of thinking shes just crap at her job)

I expect no changes will be made to the libellous article because 'transphobia'. Even though there are muiltiple videos showing no bad behaviour nor placards and the police can presumably..stand witness to no placards in sight also. Thats just how 'journalism' is these days. Seemingly, anything to demonize lesbians for even existing in public is just fine and dandy.

tobee · 07/07/2019 17:13

I think people don't really have a very good grasp on what a journalist writing on a national newspaper involves.

Popchyk · 07/07/2019 17:14

The journalist says:

twitter.com/vanessathorpe/status/1147790057190940673

"@sargesalute if this is the real you this time and you were at the incident on Friday - or know someone else who was there and would speak - please do send your comment and I will ask the editors to add it to the story or suggest they follow it up with a new account. Thanks"

I can understand that Vanessa couldn't care less about this story (and that's how it comes across), but letting yourself be used by the NT to spread lies like that? Doesn't that sting your own professional pride? It is your own name under that heading, Vanessa. And you don't seem to care one bit.

Or presumably Vanessa has an existing professional relationship with the NT and this is just a sleazy quid pro quo. Allow the NT to define the story unchallenged and they'll show you favouritism in the future.

The absolute state of journalism in this country.
