Andy Ngo was attacked at an Antifa rally yesterday.

Are people concerned about journalists being attacked? Not everyone it aeems - some think quillete is a fascist publication and he isn’t really a journalist so it’s fine, or that he engineered this to prove a point or even that his violence against trans people (by writing a thread in which he explored whether each trans murder victim was murdered because they were trans) warrants him being actually attacked. This is also being used in a “well if you’re condemning this but haven’t condemned x, y and z, you’re clearly not interested in freedom of speech/journalism”.

Andy Ngo is a trump supporter which goes part way to explaining the hostility but I didn’t not think it was this difficult to condone actual violence.

I've been shocked and disgusted by the minimising and justifications for this attack. Antifa are facists themselves.

OvaHere · 30/06/2019 14:20

Everyone's favourite gold lamé purse holder weighed in on this.

If anyone would know what a good career move is it's our Charlotte!

Provocation is a great excuse. I mean, in the heat of the moment who wouldn’t lose control and throw a milkshake carton of fast drying concrete they just happened to be carrying? You are on the way home from the concrete shop with that pint of concrete you need to fix the pothole in your drive and are unfortunate enough to run into somebody you disagree with. It could happen to any of us.

Ereshkigal · 30/06/2019 14:36

Totes, happens to me all the time.

Ereshkigal · 30/06/2019 14:38

Also disturbingly people claim that the police and city authorities in Portland don't do anything against the Antifa thugs.

ThomasRichard · 30/06/2019 14:39

I saw this and was shocked. This shouldn’t be how journalists are treated, no matter whether you agree with their stance or not.

AlwaysComingHome · 30/06/2019 14:45

Wet concrete is heavier than dried concrete. If it is in a container it has a hard surface whether it is set or not. A sock full of wet sand is a common improvised weapon. I don’t see why this is any less serious than throwing a brick.

Ereshkigal · 30/06/2019 14:52

It shouldn't be how anyone is treated including Farage, Tommy Robinson etc. It's an assault.

But some of these people would do exactly the same to gender critical women if they thought they could get away with it.

And there it is:

“Look what you made me do...”

“I’m the real victim here”

“He was asking for it”

SadAngry

littlbrowndog · 30/06/2019 15:29

He was badly injured. It was an awful thing to see the vid off this attack by thugs who justify it.

3 have been arrested. A mob of them on one guy.

SunsetBeetch · 30/06/2019 15:30

Oh and: apparently he went there knowing it would happen and wanting it to happen.

The far left and antifa have fucking lost it.

TheInebriati · 30/06/2019 15:37

You always seem to get this creeping sadism with these groups. Quick drying cement is dangerous for your eyes, why did they add it?

LassOfFyvie · 30/06/2019 16:52

The Antifa movement is vile. They truly are Fascists.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/06/2019 16:54

When I first heard people saying Trump has a good chance of being re-elected I was incredulous. The more I see of this kind of thing, though, the more I begin to get a glimmer of understanding why. Nothing justifies violence. This is the literal violence we hear so much about. I'd say the same if it had happened to Trump or Farage or Johnson.

I know nothing about this man, except that I did see a thread of his on Twitter earlier this month, where he looked one by one at all the US cases reported in 2018 where a transgender person had been murdered. He says in virtually every case either the victim had been a sex worker and was killed by a client, or it was domestic violence, or it was a robbery or drugs-related.

Now, I have no idea how accurate his figures are or his analysis of each case. One of the people responding made a very good point that people who get shoved to the margins of society are at far higher risk of violence than the average, so intolerance of trans people will have played a part. But if his stats are accurate, then not only were most of those crimes not committed out of transphobia but the murder rate for transgender people is lower than the very high rate in the US for the general population. This is of course similar to the position over here.

Pointing this out is apparently transphobic, so in the eyes of some he deserves what's happened.

LangCleg · 30/06/2019 17:04

The awful thing about this is that the Antifa crowd actually think they a) have done good and b) look good doing it.

They really have delusions of Red Guard status. Wankers.

That said: not entirely sure about the cement thing. Has this been evidenced? Or is it rumour along the lines of razor blades and stickers?

His being attacked should be cause for outrage enough.

CodenameVillanelle · 30/06/2019 17:14

Rumour along the lines of razor blades and stickers? So those rumours are false now...when they were all sharing fake images of sliced fingers and warnings all over twitter at the time?!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/06/2019 17:16

The razor blades/stickers incident was bizarre. The Merseyside police wasted time and scarce resources investigating it and could find no proof. Fortunately they put that on the public record. Meanwhile a person who alleged being injured when trying to remove a sticker posted a picture of injured finger which was immediately identified by others, using the advanced methods of a Google search on the image Hmm, as a picture posted by someone else years before and nothing whatsoever to do with razor blades and stickers. Inept.

SunsetBeetch · 30/06/2019 17:21

Not sure LangCleng. Portland Police tweeted out they had recieved reports of this.

EweSurname · 30/06/2019 17:25

I’m not sure about the cement - police have received reports about it but that’s not confirmation it happened. I’ll ask mn if they can change the title

Cement or not, the videos are real.

Charlotte Clymer, who works for the Human Rights Commission, with a nice bit of victim blaming.

I wasn't criticising, darling. Sorry if it came off like that!

FWIW - I think normalising milkshaking - with or without cement - will have an escalating effect. It's all very worrying. Violence is never righteous.

EweSurname · 30/06/2019 18:19

I didn’t take it as criticism, just (poorly) echoing what you said!

There was a report on twitter that he is staying in hospital over night because of a brain bleed. The situation in that town has been allowed to get really serious.

Imnobody4 · 30/06/2019 18:46

I really do fear for liberal democracy, it all feels very Weimar republic, 2 extreme ideologies locked in a dance of death. I naively used to think anti fascists were the good guys. There really is nothing to choose between them.
