I agree that they are sick and sad however, the message here is that women do not have bodily autonomy or a right to privacy or dignity that they must be exposed and humiliated, that they are never safe

HumberElla · 22/06/2019 12:17

These cameras film everyone using that toilet. That includes children, mothers helping toddlers. I don’t agree with the notion these people are sick and sad individuals. There are thousands of ‘normal’ every day men who view this stuff online. Men with jobs and families and friends and ordinary lives.

This is not about a few tragic individual basement dwellers. We know from media reports that digital forms of child abuse for example is so overwhelmingly common it’s virtually impossible to police.

NeegansWife · 22/06/2019 12:18

FFS. I honestly feel like there is a war on females. Fucking. Perverts.

Barracker · 22/06/2019 13:43

HumberElla I haven't words angry enough.

Thanks for sharing.
The more we are aware, the more vigilant we get.
I forget.
I forget to be alert. Because I don't want to live my entire life thinking this is everywhere. It's horrifying and exhausting.

But I have to be more alert.

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 22/06/2019 14:03

HumberElla from the photo you posted I can't work out where the camera is, can you please explain it?

HumberElla · 22/06/2019 14:13

Alert is good. We can all be vigilant an warn others to be.

WichBitch in that photo the device is the silver disc inside the toilet itself. So look at where the water goes down the toilet. The silver disc with the lens inside is facing up at you.

LangCleg · 22/06/2019 14:30

To be honest, I feel quite sorry for people who get off on watching random people using the loo. They must be very sick and sad little individuals.

I don't give a flying fuck about them and I hope they're all caught, the justice system starts taking it seriously, and prison sentences are given out.

Barracker · 22/06/2019 14:53

They might be sick and sad. They might be evil and happy.

I don't care. What they should be is locked up. Then they can be whatever they are out of reach of society.

MoltenLasagne · 22/06/2019 16:16

There will never be prison sentences for men like this because the justice system doesn’t care and our prisons are so overcrowded they’re looking at ways to avoid sentences for rapists.

What we need is for it to carry a financial penalty of the greater of half annual income or £10k or something like that. Plus the manufacturing company to carry double liability too. Bankrupt the fuckers out of existence.

courtnewsuk.co.uk/?s=voyeurism

This link was posted in another thread (Another pervert in mixed changing village). Numerous cases that have gone to court featuring men from all walks of life. Even those who seem unlikely candidates such as the disabled man in the wheelchair who set cameras up to spy on his carer. I wondered how far I’d have to go to find a female offender. I gave up on page five of the search results.

CaptainBrickbeard · 22/06/2019 16:27

My gym swapped the changing rooms for a day due to maintenance being carried out by a male engineer in the women’s. My first thought was that men in the women’s room for the day could set up cameras. It’s so grim. And footage could end up on the internet of any of us without us ever knowing.

The kind of freak that gets off on the view filmed by an in-toilet camera does not bear thinking about. How have some men become so depraved with such sick fantasies?

stealthsquirrelnutkin · 22/06/2019 16:38

That's a brilliant idea, and would already be law - if females were proportionately represented at all levels of law making and law enforcement.

Whosorrynow · 22/06/2019 16:40

how long before the fly on the wall is a microscopic drone with a camera transmitting live footage of unsuspecting people in intimate moments?
5 years?

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 22/06/2019 18:56

Thanks HumberElla, bloody grim.

Outanabout · 22/06/2019 19:58

HumberElla did you report it to the management of the establishment as well?

HumberElla · 22/06/2019 20:37

outanabout no I didn’t speak to any managers, it’s a complicated private rental arrangement so I just left it with the police to deal with.

Yes absolutely agree about tackling it via the financial route. There is absolutely no way of even finding the people who plant these things let alone prosecuting, unless they are caught red handed.

If the financial costs were high enough, then landlords and those responsible for managing public buildings would be compelled to make regular checks and keep premises secure.

SirVixofVixHall · 23/06/2019 14:06

HumberElla let’s hope the press also report this.

anothernotherone · 23/06/2019 14:22

HumberElla wow I would never have thought of a silver disk inside the toilet bowl being s camera! Shock

I've never talked to to my kids about hidden cameras in toilets because I don't want them to be afraid to go to the toilet. DD had a kidney infection which saw her hospitalised and in quite serious danger a few months into her first year of secondary school after a series of atypical UTIs caused in part by reluctance to use the toilets at secondary, and consequently not drinking and holding on til she got home before going.

I struggle with the balance between warning/ educating the kids and not wanting them to be scared to live their lives.

HumberElla · 23/06/2019 23:19

Maybe we need to think of a foolproof way of avoiding the cameras. Refuse to be intimidated or afraid to use the facilities we have a right to.

She wee? Some sort of signal blocker? Smoke or dry ice bomb? (I’m only partly joking). I’m seriously thinking if cameras are going to get everywhere in our private spaces, then we are going to have to find a way to claim those spaces back.

TheInebriati · 23/06/2019 23:27

Nail polish or a red laser pen will destroy a camera.
An inspirational picture stuck in view of the camera will give the voyeur something to watch when no one is around.

JamB4cream · 23/06/2019 23:29

Was just Googling to see if there are ways of detecting cameras.
There seem to be some dodgy apps that may or may not work.

This Wikihow page has some good tips, I particularly liked step 5, building a detector out of an empty toilet roll tube and a torch Grin

< I'm thinking something along these lines.

HumberElla · 23/06/2019 23:35

Yes to both of those. However they work only when you’ve found the camera, in which case the heel of my shoe would probably deal adequately with disabling it.

Perhaps some sort of lazer pen that had enough range that would take out a camera lens within a certain radius? I think most work on wifi so something that blocked that also might work?

The inspirational picture would be of me giving the finger.

HumberElla · 23/06/2019 23:38

I love the LoTech toilet roll and torch detection kit!! Cheap and effective.

Inebriati Haha!

Yes-make the provider of the toilet facility also responsible for doing checks. A disc in a toilet bowl (once you know what you’re looking for) is not hidden.
