Mermaids has apparently put lots of confidential data online including private emails, personal data and emails demonstrating the pressure they have put on the Tavistock.
Andrew Gilligan article - share token:

I find it interesting that, unlike other negative stories, Mermaids seem not to have pre-emptively released a statement as they usually do.

That's what I thought as well. I can't find where on their website they've put their statements.

Mumfun · 15/06/2019 20:16

Absolutely Spartacus and WeBuilt The breach of trust is really shocking. But no crowing here. I only hope that the organisation will be under so much scrutiny now that its madness will be tempered.

And I still think it appropriate that Susie Green ends up in prison for the damage she has caused to so many individuals. But wont hold my breath

JackyHolyoake · 15/06/2019 20:18

But I am stunned that the EHRC was purposefully attempting to legally obliterate the rights of girls to bodily privacy in schools.

It seems the EHRC, like the Government Equalities Office, may have become sub-branches of Stonewall, perhaps?

truthisarevolutionaryact · 15/06/2019 20:18

Like Barracker, I'm also horrified that a government agency like the EHRC was trawling for a school to drag through the courts. I have always suspected that the predators targeted the civil service and government as that's where the power to change lies. This suggests they're well embedded there.

Damage limitation ItsAllGoingToBeFie. Waiting to find out if and what the Times publish.

I note they haven't out out a statement yet. I bet Susie's phone is going crazy

They are usually here: www.mermaidsuk.org.uk/blog/

I guess it will be taking them a while to notify everyone whos very personal data was released onto the open internet though...

It'll be interesting to see how they think they can wiggle themselves out of this situation. From the quotes in Andrew's piece, they seem to be in full denial mode.

HouseOfMouse · 15/06/2019 20:27

Andrew Gillian has done some excellent articles around this issue. As to this latest one: where to start? This has unearthed multiple very serious issues, beyond even what we already knew about how Mermaids operates (which was quite bad enough). The stuff about seeking test cases is particularly sinister, and I wonder how this links into what various police forces appear to have been doing to get the numbers of reported “hate incidents” up. I look forward to what happens next.

hoteltango · 15/06/2019 20:29

Ooops, forgot to say, ItsAllGoingToBeFine thanks for the link.

I really hope that some of those who have had their data breached, and who know it has been breached to the ICO as I suspect Mermaids won't...

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/06/2019 20:32

Blah, I hope some of those who had their data breached report Mermaids to the ICO...

MrsDumpty · 15/06/2019 20:34

It's unclear from the article - were the emails hosted on Mermaid's own website? Or elsewhere?

missedith01 · 15/06/2019 20:35

Mermaids have reported themselves, it's in the article.

Mermaids have reported themselves

According to them.

MrsDumpty · 15/06/2019 20:38

@Itsallgoingtobefine Yup that's it

Melroses · 15/06/2019 20:38

Wow - didn't see this coming.

Mermaids are as casual with their personal data as they are with their facts.

It is no surprise that Mermaids are using ECHR for their own purposes, as they have with the police and the failed, attempted prosecutions - why are they all so willing to be lead?

MrsDumpty · 15/06/2019 20:41

Btw, to actually become a member of Mermaids you have to provide government-issued ID and an official letter with your address but - they promise - they keep that info "confidential".

Clearly.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/06/2019 20:43

Will attachments have been visible with the emails? This is so much more than your usual breach of email and password. I really feel for those who have been exposed by this. Mermaids needs more than a wrist slap over this.

Pasgaddi · 15/06/2019 20:44

Finally something SG is actually qualified in (IT consultant) and she's still incompetent at it

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 15/06/2019 20:44

Good God - those poor children and parents.

missedith01 · 15/06/2019 20:45

They have to report a breach or that's another breach. They also have to inform all those data subjects affected by the breach, so it's odd if they are saying there are none.
