Do it has just been suggested on Twitter that Canada needs a Mumsnet, I have tweeted that Canada is welcome to join so I thought we could hold a small welcome gathering.

@MNHQ - I hope that's OK

Hmm, I wonder who that could be, QueSera.

Welcome Canada!

Hello Canada 🇨🇦 I was wondering, have the Tribunal hearings in BC have been reported on much since the ban was lifted?

Mrstwiddle · 27/07/2019 03:31

Not on CBC or Global News Vancouver, I keep checking but I think they’d have covered it if they were going to by now.

Yeahnahyeah · 27/07/2019 03:34

HNRT but welcome Canada, from NZ 💪

GirlDownUnder · 27/07/2019 04:07

Not on CBC or Global News Vancouver, I keep checking but I think they’d have covered it if they were going to by now.

This thread might explain it - from the 24/7/19 and I've not seen anything different yet

One of the morning anchors from CBC had taken notice but didn’t think it was important. Elsie alerted CBC to the case:

https://mobile.twitter.com/goinglikeelsie/status/1153893099728359424

You’ll Stephen Quinns’ reply to Elsie's if you scroll down, but direct link to his reply:

https://mobile.twitter.com/CBCStephenQuinn/status/1154243583068631045

One of his response is:

"It was this line in your tweet:
Even @ rickygervais is rightly having a laugh at the BC Human Fights Tribunal.
I took it as a suggestion from you that the BCHRT doesn't consider the case worth hearing.
Was I wrong? If so, my apologies."

2BthatUnnoticed · 27/07/2019 04:41

Interesting, thanks Girl

I’ve found a Canadian journalist with 58,0000 followers, who explains that it’s just not newsworthy! Shock

Mrst hopefully they report on the verdict (and it’s in favour of the women) Brew

Welcome Canada
GirlDownUnder · 27/07/2019 05:27

2B I had totally forgotten about the "lovely" Jesse Brown! Shock That's a either a terrible indictment of my memory (as I posted the below on another thread mere days ago), or there are just so many muppets I can't keep up.

Jessica Yaniv is the hill that Jesse Brown wants to die on - The Post Millennial

www.thepostmillennial.com/jessica-yaniv-is-the-hill-that-jesse-brown-wants-to-die-on/

Today, in a bizarre episode of the Canadaland podcast, Jesse Brown and guest co-host Zane Schwartz went out of their way to pretend the Jessica Yaniv story that has trended worldwide is just an illusion or in some way manufactured, in part by The Post Millennial, as illegitimate outrage.

Brown actually says: “There’s this trans person, this imaginary hypothetical, trans person whom transphobic reactionaries have been imagining for years. This is kind of a trans bogeyman invoked in hypothetical situations … a pervert, a predator who gets off trespassing into women’s washrooms.”

Schwartz chimes in: “There has been no evidence to suggest it exists... It’s a convenient fiction.

Brown agrees. “It’s something that isn’t real. Until very recently. Lo and behold, now this imaginary trans bogeyman seems to exist at least to extreme conservative media.”

Giant covered by the CBC

https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.cbc.ca/amp/1.5227434

PhoenixBuchanan · 27/07/2019 05:28

That should be finally covered...

GirlDownUnder · 27/07/2019 05:35

Oh PhoenixBuchanan Excellent cross post! At least in now finally in the main stream media. Lots of incoming sunlight for JY. Good.

The public hearing attracted attention Friday with about 30 individuals attending the proceedings and gathering outside. Some were there to support Yaniv while others demonstrated in support of the estheticians, many of whom are women of colour.

Some were there to support Yaniv I don't think taking your mom counts Hmm

Mrstwiddle · 27/07/2019 06:08

Finally!

Mrstwiddle · 27/07/2019 06:17

Can’t wait to read the comments on the DM. Unsurprisingly CBC does not have comments set up on their article...

FormerMediocreMale · 27/07/2019 11:17

Thank you canada for taking a hit to show the rest of the world the lunacy if self-id.

Welcome to the people of Canada. Flowers

AprilHalley709 · 29/07/2019 14:07

The media in Canada is ignoring, or underplaying, anything negative to do with gender policy. I never would have believed that level of censorship was possible here.

I wrote about the fact that as of January crime is no longer recorded by sex but by gender identity.

You can choose to be recorded as male, female, both male and female, or neither male nor female. As far as I can tell the government has made no announcement of this no one has reported on this.

I have left Twitter because I was shadowbanned (and the place was driving me crazy lol). Consider sharing it around with anyone you think might be interested.

What the government is done is invalidate the data we need to gauge violence against women. If the Conservatives had tried that the media would have flipped.

Goosefoot · 29/07/2019 22:05

I would be very curious to talk to someone who actually works in the CBC and hear what is going on behind the scenes. Because surely there are people there who see what a shit show it is.

I used to know quite a few as I went to a university with a journalism program but I've lost touch for the most part.

AprilHalley709 · 30/07/2019 01:02

I suspect people at least a few ppl at the CBC have their jeads screwed on. They must be pitching these stories and someone is shooting them down.

On the other hand they may be too afraid to bring them up. People are afraid to touch this. I can't explain it. It is utterly bizarre.

AprilHalley709 · 30/07/2019 01:03

*heads 😂

Goosefoot · 30/07/2019 01:48

Bigot has become a very powerful word. It's been used for a few years now as a tool to silence a POV someone doesn't like, and people fall into line very very quickly. I think they've been trained that way at the CBC for at least the last 10 years.

tryingtobebetterallthetime · 30/07/2019 01:58

See opinion piece by Rex Murphy in the National Post.

AprilHalley709 · 04/10/2019 02:31

In case anyone is interested. I received data from the Correctional Service of Canada a little while ago. It shows that 7 of the 8 men who have transferred from men's to women's federal prisons (From June '17 to Dec '18) are violent offenders.

This data is flawed as it omits men who may have been admitted upon intake as well as men who had SRS (and were there even before the gender bill).

GrinitchSpinach · 04/10/2019 17:15

Thank you for this important work, April!

Canadian sisters, what is the best way for non-Canadians to help you right now?

littlbrowndog · 04/10/2019 17:21

Thanks April

AprilHalley709 · 04/10/2019 18:34

Thanks :) @littlbrowndog xo

@GrinitchSpinach I think just spreading the word is helpful. I first learned of this from UK women on Twitter!

If you know anyone in the media, or who writes blogs even, send them this info. They can feel free to contact me (as can anyone who wants more info, I will share what ever I have). The problem in Canada is no media is covering this. None. If ppl outside Canada cover it it will help. It is relevant to them as well because we are often held up as an example of 'best practice' when it comes to self ID.

A few journalists have contacted me but they are too afraid to follow through. I am working on an article myself but I am not even sure if they will go through with it. A different outlet kept a piece on the back burner for 5 months. I am resigned to the fact that the media here won't report on this unless compelled to.

littlbrowndog · 04/10/2019 18:47

I think April it’s about getting a quantity of people to come together.

Like here

When I first joined here it was not so busy and I was a bit erm not sure about it because everyone else seemed very able with words.

But it’s been great and a great educational 💪
