Mermaids close relationship with the police

They’re currently in the middle of a shit storm because of their ie. SG’s decision to ally themselves too closely with the police. A backlash is underway and it’s really interesting to watch unfold. Lots of threats to withdraw funding/stop donating. Not sure how to link to the thread on Twitter but it’s there to see if you go on their feed. A certain young Labour Woman’s Officer is very cross about it too.

There's such a weird contradiction between the TownTattle/Ada Wells style angry young sorts and the right wing sexist ones pulling in funding from millionaires.
At least they both agree on women hating.

OvaHere · 08/06/2019 08:46

Do you mean this thread?

twitter.com/Mermaids_Gender/status/1137025141509185536

A lot of TRA's are radical, far-left, anti-carceral types. It's the same people who demand that gay police officers stay away from Pride.

Melroses · 08/06/2019 08:50

It was an interesting thread. Even the LGBT Finest from Manchester could not calm them. (not sure why they were commenting rather than WYP, but

lorit · 08/06/2019 08:50

Wow. So the West Yorkshire Police's record counts for nothing with these people. That's some gratefulness right there!

lorit · 08/06/2019 08:55

Do they REALLY believe that U.K. police officers murder transgender people?

People on that thread are saying they're shaking and crying in terror!

Does anyone have stats for this?

BigGreenOlives · 08/06/2019 08:59

Oh Lorit stats are just like facts & science, we don’t need those anymore, it’s all about feelings, those are the important things.

I’m going to go and lie down, having to mention science & maths is hurting my pretty little head.

JellySlice · 08/06/2019 09:06

I am confused (easily done Blush)

Do you mean 'close' as in 'shut' or as in 'near'? Both seem to fit.

Manclife1 · 08/06/2019 09:07

It’s a bit ‘meh’ to be honest. There’s alway a subculture within all groups who hate the police. However the trans narrative is being heavily pushed in policing at the moment and it’s causing massive resentment and legal issues. You should’ve seen a speakers face at a trans training session when it was pointed out that a self identifying trans person could not search ANYBODY. They almost exploded and started a rant about the officer being transphobic. Had to be pointed out that it was caselaw not personal opinion. Grin Most are cops GC. Though there’s the odd few who are desperate to be ‘woke’ and cause issues.

donquixotedelamancha · 08/06/2019 09:12

A lot of TRA's are radical, far-left, anti-carceral types. It's the same people who demand that gay police officers stay away from Pride.

Indeed, then on the next post they will be cheering the arrest of 'terfs' and supporting totalitarian policing of 'bigotry'. They will claim mermaids is appalling for that tweet, then say that anyone attacking mermaids is a bigot.

That thread shows how batshit TRAs are. Lots of anime characters with claims they never speak to the police but deal with problems using weapons.

LangCleg · 08/06/2019 09:20

Hahaha.

The Anti Carceral People's Front falling out with the People's Front For Abuse By Proxy.

theytheywho · 08/06/2019 09:21

WYP have been doing a lot of Mermaid’s or SG’s bidding in terms of prosecutions for alleged ‘hatecrimes’ and ‘hatespeech’. Must be annoying for SG to be on the receiving end of such vitriol from her usual cheerleaders though. And after all those nice people donated that money to them by joining in on a video game from their bedrooms. Maybe she’s getting just a tiny taste of how closed they are to reasoning. The mantra of the day on this issue is not ‘trans women are women’ but ‘ACAB’. What’s it like to have debate shut down on you and have slogans thrown back instead of intelligent argument? Annoying isn’t it?

OP posts:
Xiaoxiong · 08/06/2019 09:21

I wonder what Mermaids, peddlers of context and evidence free stats about suicide rates to back up their arguments, makes of the person accusingly saying that they shouldn't work with police because the state sponsored murders (ie. police) of transpeople is "astoundingly high" with no evidence or stats to back it up. Must be frustrating to have that tactic turned back around on you, eh Mermaids.

NotBadConsidering · 08/06/2019 09:29

Look at this tweet:

mobile.twitter.com/MxARivelin/status/1136999019744583680

“I see you with your uniform, how do I know you're not like the cop that tried to frame an elderly relative of mine for assaulting a security guard when he did no such thing (thankfully there was evidence to the contrary that got the cop reprimanded).”

Just mind blowing, the lack of insight. This person asks how are they supposed know that police officers trans women have good intentions, and aren’t one of the police officers trans women who might be dodgy?

OvaHere · 08/06/2019 09:30

Give it another year and the Queer movement will get Mermaids shut down all by themselves. Especially now they've outed themselves as right wing bigots aligned with the oppressive state!

From the Twitter link above:

2/ We are already looking at a Hate Crimes post, and our legal caseworker, who is also trans, supports families and young people up to 19 if they have any issues around reporting hate, or indeed prejudice from within the Police.*

Sooo

Lottery or other money is being used to fund someone to support complaints to the police.

The Faircop initiative is really important.

OvaHere · 08/06/2019 09:38

Vacancy for CEO of Mermaids incoming...

AccioWine · 08/06/2019 09:50

It's just never enough, is it? Whatever you do, however far you bend over backwards, it's never enough.
Maybe this will make Mermaids stop and think for a minute.
Or maybe not. They have a lot to lose after all.

Melroses · 08/06/2019 09:55

Dedicating your life, your child and your credibility to the cause will never be enough. But you are right - no stopping and thinking - too much invested. Sunken costs and all that.

Manclife1 · 08/06/2019 10:09

One ot the posters!

Mermaids close relationship with the police
Michelleoftheresistance · 08/06/2019 10:13

I can't read more than a few tweets in that thread... too far out of touch with any kind of reality and so entrenched in this paranoid, raging view of the world the language has become incomprehensible. Black hole of angry need and no one and nothing is right.

FloralBunting · 08/06/2019 10:16

Ah, Mrs Green. How you enjoyed riding the tiger when it was mauling those who dared to question you. Scary when it threatens to turn it's claws on you, eh?

ZebrasAreBras · 08/06/2019 10:18

That is some backlash!

Susie Green accused of "cis-privilege" and speaking over trans people. I'm not laughing, I'm really not.

ZebrasAreBras · 08/06/2019 10:21

Nicely put Floral Grin

Whatisthisfuckery · 08/06/2019 10:37

I wish there was a like button on here for your post Floral.

Another example of TRAs scuttling their own ship. Fucking unhinged, the lot of em.SG needs to retire to Spain.

Deliriumoftheendless · 08/06/2019 10:39

👏👏👏👏

Very funny Lang Cleg. I like that one. 😂
