There aren’t really words to describe how sickened I am by this. In the city I’m proud to live in, in the middle of fucking Pride month, two women have been beaten up because they didn’t want to put on a show for some disgusting men.

It’s because they are both attractive. If they had been overweight, middle aged women, the boys wouldn’t even have noticed them. This was a sexual assault primarily and a homophobic attack second.

There usually is on London buses. Hopefully they can trace the thugs who did it via their oyster/payment cards.

That's outrageous. I feel totally safe in general out and about and fairly obviously a couple with my girlfriend but still can imagine this kind of thing on a bus.

@RuffleCrow - definitely has to do with them being attractive. They would never have done this if the women involved were overweight / middle aged etc. This is a classic case of sexual assault primarily then a homophobic crime (which is a lesser crime with lesser penalties) - if they hadn’t been on a bus, maybe walking down a dark street, the boys would probably have tried to rape them after the beating. This type of thing happens a lot in London to attractive gay women.

Terrible. Being a young person I tend to consider gay rights (in countries like Britain anyway) a given. But events like this show just how far we have to go as a society. I hope they find the attackers and punish them harshly. This should be treated as an act of sexual violence.

Because the point isn't the bastards enjoyment, the point is humiliating and scaring lesbians who are open about being lesbians. Just the means matters. So, when younger, when I kissed a woman in public, some creepy bloke followed us and was obviously getting off on it. Like the straight blokes who used to come to a mixed gay night and 'watch' the lesbians. As I got older, I would expect something more along the lines of 'you're so fucking ugly, no wonder you can't get a man' kind of stuff. I recall lesbians before on the Tube on their way to Pride being spat at. It's trying to remind woman and lesbians that public spaces aren't theirs, that being openly lesbian is still not safe. What I do find worrying here is the level of violence and the fact that it was a group of men in a very public place (a bus with hopefully CCTV).

And this is why we still need pride etc, it's not all corporate sponsorship and happy families, there are still men prepared to enact violence on women for not wanting them.

Ok, I'd read the headline but I hadn't seen the picture and now I'm really upset. Flashback to when I was attacked after I kissed my then girlfriend goodbye at a train station in the 90's.

I really disagree. Teddybear. Women of all ages, weights, attractiveness levels etc get sexually assaulted by men. An old lady a few streets away from me was raped and murdered in her home by a young man (as safe an area as you're likely to come across).

For you to make it about appearance is a type of victim blaming - you're basically saying if they'd worked hard at a middle aged unnattractive disguise before they went out none of this would have happened. Forget about that - focus instead on what the fuck is wrong with men who behave this way.

Just read this and could not believe my eyes. Society is regressing so much in regards to women's rights. BBC said one attacker spoke Spanish and the others had British accents. It seems that the police attended quite quickly so how come the men were not arrested on the spot?
