Questions about identifying as a TERF?

  1. Do you think it's safe to do so online?
  2. Do you think it's safe to do so in public, in real life?

That film Marathon Man - "is it safe"?

NotTerfNorCis · 06/06/2019 19:44

No one 'identifies as a terf'.

But assuming your question is in good faith, yes it is risky. Gender cult ideologues are absolutely toxic.

helpamamaout · 06/06/2019 19:44

From google:

Thomas "Babe" Levy (Dustin Hoffman) is a Columbia graduate student and long-distance runner who is oblivious to the fact that his older brother, Doc (Roy Scheider), is a government agent chasing down a Nazi war criminal (Laurence Olivier) -- that is, until Doc is murdered and Babe finds himself knee-deep in a tangle of stolen gems and sadistic madmen. Even his girlfriend, Elsa (Marthe Keller), becomes a suspect as everything Babe believed to be true is suddenly turned upside down.

I dong get the revelance?

Laurence Olivier tortured Dustin Hoffman using his dentistry skills, asking the immortal words "is it safe?"

Justhadathought · 06/06/2019 19:46

'Real life' is much more fun, and far more relevant. Plus I'm very outspoken.

What about you?

ZebrasAreBras · 06/06/2019 19:47

Honestly, kids these day - no decent film knowledge Grin

ZebrasAreBras · 06/06/2019 19:49

To answer your question, I don't know, because I don't identify as a TERF.

I am a woman and a radical feminist. Second wave.

helpamamaout · 06/06/2019 19:51

Someone I know in real life (see them approximately once or twice a year) today shared on social media something that happened in Scotland. I I clicked through the link to look at the origin of the post and The Source was really toxic with regards to that sources view of terfs encouraging others to take action against terfs etc I found the intensity of feeling shocking

Pardon my ignorance, what is the difference between being turf versus a woman who is a radical feminist second wave

what is the difference between being turf

Turf is expensive, tricky to lay, and needs constant watering until it 'takes'.

Whereas the other option needs really careful preparation, lots of raking, a good even seed distribution and you can't walk on it for about 6 weeks!

ZebrasAreBras · 06/06/2019 19:56

TERF is a misogynistic slur used against women who won't shut up, bow down to men, or do what they're told.

A radical feminist knows what a woman is, and fights for women's rights.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 06/06/2019 19:58

Don’t identify as anything

Be gender critical if you are

Terf is a slur - google that and you will see

No it isn’t ‘safe’ to admit to being gender critical online or in public as people will shout you down but maybe do it anyway if you are feeling brave?

SciFiScream · 06/06/2019 20:00

I don't think many people (normally female) identify as a TERF - the identify is foisted upon them by others.

It doesn't really mean anything.

It is an insult.

titchy · 06/06/2019 20:00

Grin If I identify as a turf (or should that be a turve?) does that make me trans-kingdom?
SomeDyke · 06/06/2019 20:00

Turf is a cut piece of grass (including roots and soil), or a slab of peat cut for fuel purposes.

Women aren't plants (since we don't photosynthesize) -- even feminist women. Or even green women, indeed...........

(From "a handy guide to distinguishing between people and plants" (second edition), companion volume to 'How to avoid huge ships", although possibly slightly more useful in everyday life...............)

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 06/06/2019 20:02

Calling someone a T*F or a C*T is very rarely a term of endearment.

helpamamaout · 06/06/2019 20:03

I have so many questions about all of this but fear asking them in a clumsy manner that would cause offence

They sound like a bunch of sods.

TinselAngel · 06/06/2019 20:05

How is turf at covering grey rocks?

ZebrasAreBras · 06/06/2019 20:05

It can be extremely unsafe if violent males decide you are a "terf"- especially if you are in the public eye.

Women have been punched, attacked, sent bomb threats, been expelled from political parties, been fired from jobs...

terryleather · 06/06/2019 20:06

Women aren't plants

Speak for yourself!

I identify as a Venus Flytrap.

Plant identities are valid!!!!

letsrunfar · 06/06/2019 20:06

Being on the wrong side of any agenda can be dangerous on and off line these days, that is if you have a family, job etc to protect, not to mention physical safety.
