Questions about identifying as a TERF?

  1. Do you think it's safe to do so online?
  2. Do you think it's safe to do so in public, in real life?

I have so many questions about all of this but fear asking them in a clumsy manner that would cause offence

If you aren’t new here and genuine, welcome, but spend a day or so reading through other threads. You’ll soon pick up on the general attitude towards terms like ‘terf’ and get a hang of our sense of humour.

Trinalbcnotanonman · 06/06/2019 20:06

There is a whole thread call "break it down for me".

If you're genuinely interested, clink on this link and have a read.

People are joking around with you because we get an awful lots of trolls here.

But well deserved y’know for the literal murder of people by throwing pesky biology in their faces. That poor lass who attacked Julie really could have hurt her knuckles you know.

helpamamaout · 06/06/2019 20:08

Thanks
Will look for that and try to figure out where I'm at in my understanding.

Thousands of deaths are caused literally every day by women talking about their uteruses.

Or just using the word uterus and woman in the same sentence.

Thanks for link, found my reading for the evening!

I don't identify as anything myself, but I do identify with some things; some places; some ideas.....but these change over time as I evolve and develop

Currently I'm fixated on Rome; although I'm not Roman. It captures something I love, in my life, at present. It used to be Sicily. I want to live in Rome, or at least have a second home there, but really it just a fantasy. I'm aware of this though.

You don't need to be fearful. Just ask! But do avoid using the word Terf. Nobody recognises it as anything but a term of abuse by trans activists.

I'd say most of us are wary about even thinking along the lines of 'identifying as' anything at all.

Orchidoptic · 06/06/2019 20:30

Is there really a handy guide to distinguishing between people and plants? Loved the other book.

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 06/06/2019 20:34

I'm a woman and I am GC. The only thing I identify as is a cat.

Do I share my GC views in public(online or real life) only in safe spaces like on here and with close friends. I work in a school, Stonewall approved , and I'm not brave enough to risk my job. Did manage to wriggle my way out of a Stonewall training, mostly for fear I wouldn't be able to just smile and nod.

ZebrasAreBras · 06/06/2019 20:37

It's terrible the way so many women irl have to button their lip and walk the tightrope like that, or risk their livelihoods, yoursarcasm.

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 06/06/2019 20:46

To be fair, I do think they think they come from a good place. A place of inclusion and acceptance. They're brilliant with SEN, social and emotional needs, supporting not just the children, but the parents as well (i.e. we have someone dedicated to help with form filling and paperwork like benefits). It's an amazing school in many ways, but they have definitely drank the kool aid on this issue.

helpamamaout · 06/06/2019 20:46

Is it ok to ask what is GC?

OP posts:
YourSarcasmIsDripping · 06/06/2019 20:47

Gender critical

ZebrasAreBras · 06/06/2019 20:48

GC = Gender Critical.

Feminism is basically gender critical, because we reject gender stereotypes, boy-brain/girl-brain etc.

Justhadathought · 06/06/2019 20:56

Is it ok to ask what is GC?

Critical of the idea of fixed gender identities. Feminists have long rallied against the imposition of rigid gender stereotyping. We are all human beings: with a range of temperaments; a range of skills and talents in spite of our biological sex. We believe that women are oppressed because of our bodies; our biology - in a world which is set up to centre and value the male and the masculine above all else.

Men and women are both oppressed by gender constructs.

We see that transgenderism as an ideology is oppressive and regressive, not progressive. It forces people back into gender boxes.

We also believe that you cannot change your sex. In fact we know this to be true.Liberation comes through loosening the binds of gender stereotypes.

Outanabout · 06/06/2019 21:01

I'm GC in real life and on FB, and have peaked all the female members of my family, and a few males. Also some acquaintances on FB that I didn't expect. It's worth doing, as long as you're not going to lose your job. The assault on women's sport makes even the most tolerant and inclusive of people into a tailspin.

Thank you, I think these are the words I've been looking for.

What exactly are you looking for and why?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 06/06/2019 21:11

Which site or twitter thread will those words appear on?

helpamamaout · 06/06/2019 21:12

.......the confidence to challenge certain idealologies being indoctrinated in young children

FloralBunting · 06/06/2019 21:52

Turf is expensive, tricky to lay, and needs constant watering until it 'takes'.

Whereas the other option needs really careful preparation, lots of raking, a good even seed distribution and you can't walk on it for about 6 weeks!

😂😂😂😂😂

Do you mean posting “terf identified” posts on social media (or even just liking someone else’s tweets) under your real name?

You could but it’s a risk I’m not prepared to take. I have an anonymous Twitter account and “like” away to my heart’s content. Smile
