The thing is, I reckon they genuinely believe that it's homophobic to oppose someone filming themselves pissing and wanking at work, or making easily found fetish porn, whilst representing a children's charity. I don't think they're being dishonest, I really think they see nothing wrong with it. Which is just one of the reasons these people (woke-drunk TRAs on twitter, not trans or gay people) are so dangerous and should be no where near an org with the remit to "protect children's morals". They're own personal overton window has shifted so out of step with the rest of the world that they're on another planet at this point.

nonsenceagain · 12/06/2019 21:38

Hang on. That’s surely not a picture of a man wanking at work? A picture he posted?

Yeahnahyeah · 12/06/2019 21:39

What a fecken trainwreck.

RedToothBrush · 12/06/2019 21:41

Transphobia = understanding scientific fact around sex

Homophobia = objecting to an employee of a children's charity wanking in their rubber underwear at work and publicly posting a video of the act.

Is that roughly correct

O'Brien held up his left hand, its back towards Winston, with the thumb hidden and the four fingers extended. 'How many fingers am I holding up, Winston?' 'And if the party says that it is not four but five -- then how many?' The word ended in a gasp of pain.

Oh sorry, my mind wandered to what inspired Owen Jones to use the twitter handle Mr1984.

Yes I think you have things just about summed up there if you believe the approved lines of the party..

JackyHolyoake · 12/06/2019 21:44

I rather suspect LOJ may have said his last words for any media anywhere ...

EverardDigby · 12/06/2019 21:46

Do we know the work toilet one is definitely him?

Sadly I think you might be right

The NSPCC thus is demonstrating exactly why it is so difficult to raise concerns about concerning behaviour. Institutions will immediately close ranks to defend the person who is demonstrating the unsafe behaviour. That's what we are seeing today. Demonising the messenger and protecting the offender.

When I first had safeguarding training at my job, probably the most shocking part of it was being told that "the first time you come across accusations or evidence of wrongdoing by a colleague your first instinct will be to cover it up".

So we were actually told to be self-aware and as far as possible try to overcome that initial reaction. And to follow the procedures no matter who was involved.

I think the NSPCC need to have a good long look at their own practices before advising others.

kesstrel · 12/06/2019 21:53

Glinner's just been blocked by the NSPCC on twitter for tweeting to draw their attention to this.

If you can't see people reporting concerns to you cos you've blocked them, there can't be a problem.

Right?

I mean obviously this is great for whistle blowing and safeguarding...

hipsterfun · 12/06/2019 21:58

Well, that puts the gross in gross misconduct.

DuMondeB · 12/06/2019 21:58

The social media department is probably in the same location as the ‘celebrity’ liaison people...

SunsetBeetch · 12/06/2019 22:01

Oh Jacky I hope you're right. He stirs up a lot of hatred.

dolorsit · 12/06/2019 22:02

I rather suspect that the department is going into a meltdown.

OvaHere · 12/06/2019 22:03

The NSPCC really aren't helping themselves here. The rubbers, pups and furries are piling onto their mentions to cry kinkshaming and defend wanking/making porn in the offices of a child protection org as not that big a deal.

They need to shut this down very clearly and distance themselves otherwise it's going to follow them around. It may already be too late.

ZebrasAreBras · 12/06/2019 22:06

These charities, police forces, etc, really need to put the grown ups in charge of the social media accounts.

I think it's seen as a very small thing - something that maybe an intern, someone young, with little experience, does?

In reality - they are in charge in of the major interface with the public - and stuff like this looks very bad on the NSPCC. They can't just ignore this by blocking people with concerns.

OrchidInTheSun · 12/06/2019 22:07

Knew this would be called kink shaming. None of those people have any idea what is appropriate in any kind of professional job, no matter about a charity that is responsible for safeguarding children!

Incidentally, this is the government definition of CSA. it doesn't say anything about how the victim feels:

This. And if it doesn't course correct pretty damn pronto, it risks a scandal of Oxfam proportions.

And this.

LizzieSiddal · 12/06/2019 22:11

We can only hope there is a huge investigation into the shower of shit which is unfolding right now.

And the Charities Commission should be involved.

JackyHolyoake · 12/06/2019 22:11

Oh Jacky I hope you're right. He stirs up a lot of hatred.

I think he has seriously overstepped in this situation ... and will now be "toxic" insofar as it is clear he has a total disregard for anyone who is not a gay male.

Society generally does not take kindly to people who disregard the wellbeing and safety of our children.

Society also does not take too kindly to the public expression of paraphilias, which is what Mr Jones seems to be defending in this instance; that is, the paraphilia as expressed by Bergdorf [autogynephilia] plus the paraphilia as expressed by Makings [fetish of non-living objects which would include materials made of rubber].

Outofinspiration · 12/06/2019 22:11

As a slight aside, what is with the 'cub' thing? Cub? As in, infant animal? Wanking? At the workplace of a child protection charity?

That twitter thread linked above - there are people out there who don't see anything wrong with this, with wanking at work, because this guy doesn't have direct contact with kids? So wanking at work in rubber, filming it and posting it online is OK? And saying otherwise is homophobia?

Aye right....

nonsenceagain · 12/06/2019 22:13

They will be panicking right now and so they should. Their appalling unfitness as an organisation is clear for all to see. So glad I cancelled my direct debit months ago.

Sevigny · 12/06/2019 22:15

The Charities Commission is already under fire (today’s Times) for not probing the “inappropriate sexual conduct” at Oxfam properly. If they have learned anything, they will be all over this quickly.

It's gay lingo for male body types, cub, bear, otter, twink etc...in the proper context not a big deal but put in this context looks well dodgy.
