Munroe has been talking about 'doctored photos'. I think either in relation to tht well-used photo of Munroe with some of their chouce quotes on it, or a tweet Karen posted with a.picture of NSPCC's safeguarding policy next to a picture of Munroe in one of her 'sexy, empowering' shots

Funny how Munroe and her supporters are concentrating on 'transphobia' and 'slut shaming' and have nothing to say about the concerns about homophobia and safeguarding..

hipsterfun · 09/06/2019 18:54

The Childline info reads like a copy and paste from Gendered Intelligence or Mermaids. You have to question how much oversight there is by senior members of staff of what goes online.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 09/06/2019 18:59

I would worry that a child who is, say being bullied for being a lesbian would google said ‘face of’ the charity and see the homophobic, lesphobic, racist, visualist (name calling on the basis of how you look) and ranting posts, alongside the lingerie shots and think - ohoh, no thanks - they look like my bullies - the ones that slag off gay women and try to look like a pretty barbie doll.

Not to mention the ‘contact me’ dialogue which is very much against safeguard guidelines.

Sorry - but the ‘face of’ people need to be very approachable and friendly faces (like a big brother or sister), not someone who tries to come across as a ‘sassy, sexy babe’.

hoodathunkit · 09/06/2019 19:04

If I worked at the NSPCC I would be concerned and extremely curious to know how the NSPCC ended up booking a 2 day residential event at an interesting venue that hosts a number of extremely controversial new age cults, including one that advocates the sexual abuse of children

This happened a long time ago and it may simply be an appalling coincidence, even so worthy of some thought

hoodathunkit · 09/06/2019 19:08

more than once it seems

bit of a habit really

This is literally POMO in action though, isn't it. Abuse is a social construct arising from a discursively constructed victim/abuser juxtaposition, rather than from the real events.

Yes. Described in detail in this series of articles.

In fact, if you click on any of my archived links above and click on the "links" page you will be able to check out some very early websites of truly appalling organisations

There might be some there that are not abusive and it is entirely possible that brainwashed / naive new age hippies might not appreciate what they were getting involved in but the inclusion off the NSPCC among the users of this venue is deeply concerning

JamB4cream · 09/06/2019 19:34

Being covered on the BBC newspage

BBC News - Munroe Bergdorf: NSPCC cuts ties with transgender activist
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-48572955

Munroe - Childline 's first LGBT+ campaigner.
LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 09/06/2019 19:40

Well the article is really one sided (how the online editor didn’t use a shot of them in the red lingerie, straddling summit, with their boobs very on display I don’t know) but auto tagging never lies...

Munroe - Childline 's first LGBT+ campaigner.
Justhadathought · 09/06/2019 19:44

People have mentioned homophobic comments from Bergdorf. What where they? I'm not aware.

JamB4cream · 09/06/2019 20:07

I think this article covers it Justhadathought

nettie434 · 09/06/2019 20:58

That is exactly my concern JamB4cream (great name by the way). Munroe has been involved in several controversial incidents. I actually do understand why Munroe is upset about this. I do not think she is a suitable ambassador for the NSPCC but I would have expected the NSPCC to have thought carefully about who it approached to avoid any backlash.

It is the NSPCC who come out of this badly. Munroe has a very clear image. It is not like a politician behaving as if they have never taken drugs and getting found out.

Outofinspiration · 09/06/2019 21:00

The thing is, why is everyone shouting about how 'its because Munroe is trans'? Do trans people not have to held to account for anything? Just because they are trans?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 09/06/2019 21:08

Nope. It appears to be a get of jail free card.

NoSquirrels · 09/06/2019 21:12

I see Helen at Mermsids has many (graph-laden) thoughts on this over on Twitter...

Needmoresleep · 09/06/2019 21:13

A question. Apologies if it has been covered upthread, but does the NSPCC has a policy of enhanced DRB checks for anyone who come in contact with (vulnerable) children.

If so I assume nothing will have been thrown up.

Because failure to carry out such checks as a routine measure or failure to take on board things that came up would be serious breaches.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 09/06/2019 21:15

An ambassador wouldn’t be in a position when they would have close contact with kids, so no DRB necessary.

nettie434 · 09/06/2019 21:17

Other ambassadors include Wayne Rooney, Cheryl, Abby Clancy and Melinda Messenger. I think they just want someone who is high profile. Lemn Sissay who actually grew up in care is less famous but hugely committed:

Lots of people on Twitter pointing out that Abby Clancy and Melinda Messenger have all also done extremely sexualised photo shoots, which I think is fair. It's being called "transphobic" because the photos are what most people are targeting MB for but not the other campaigners. I don't think those photos were appropriate for a children's charity ambassador, but my big problem is with the drags kids/ DM me privately/ homophobic comments. I don't like highly sexualised images of women being promoted to children, but the safeguarding should be the real focus here.

Cismyfatarse1 · 09/06/2019 23:01

I found that a really interesting thread. As far as I can see she is accusing "anti-trans lobbyists" of exactly what TRAs do. The doublethink is impressive.

Lysistra65 · 09/06/2019 23:45

For me the problem is that in puberty NO child is comfortable with their body. If a child is confused about their sexuality like I was - I was attracted to other girls till about 14 or 15, Now people like Munroe B, & groups like Mermaids give the impression that all will be better if you change your 'gender' rather than wait & see & rather than saying that its fine to be same (or both) sex attracted. Now lesbians are being harassed & banned from groups, even from Pride for saying that they are same sex attracted & don't want sex with people with penises. It seems to be a kind of horrible, really damaging conversion therapy going on & peddled to vulnerable kids.
