I know dianjo won't mind me reposting this here:

For anyone in North East England - Michele Moore is speaking in Newcastle at Tyneside Irish Centre on Thursday 13th June.

Tickets here https://www.tickettailor.com/events/defendwomensrightsne/264857<a class="break-all" href="http://go.mumsnet.com/?xs=1&id=470X1554755&url=www.tickettailor.com/events/defendwomensrightsne/264857/" target="_blank">/

The Irish Centre have hosted 2 previous meetings for us - Defend Women's Rights NE & Cumbria.

The are brilliant - and there's no way they will cave in to intimidation. They usually get a few phone calls from TRAs - but they just tell them that they're welcome to attend the meeting if they wish - which of course they don't :-)

I'm so excited to FINALLY be able to attend this one! I've missed the last two as DH had to work. The Irish Centre have been so supportive, can't speak highly enough of them :)

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/06/2019 19:06

So, a small crowd outside shouting "protect trans kids."

JackyHolyoake · 13/06/2019 19:11

Neurotrash Is there a Twitter hashtag for this talk that can be followed please?

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/06/2019 19:16

I don't think so so far, it's being filmed and will be on YouTube as last year's one.

Defend women's rights

JackyHolyoake · 13/06/2019 19:17

Neurotrash Thank you. I look forward to see the recording.

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/06/2019 19:24

Apparently the police are on standby though it was rather half hearted. I think I can hear chanting.

Talk has started with a basic round up of where we are at in terms of erasure of women and the impact of self ID.

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/06/2019 19:30

Talk about women in prison.

Currently 22 males in women's prisons.

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/06/2019 19:36

If you search Tyneside Irish centre it brings up a few things on twitter.

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 13/06/2019 19:37

Currently 22 males in women's prisons.

Is that in the trans wing, or actually sleeping and living alongside women?

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/06/2019 19:42

I'll have to watch again, shared exercising was mentioned.

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/06/2019 19:48

Talk about online presence of women: Wikipedia. Big point being made about how men are mostly in control, example given about family and parenting groups in the uk on wiki- very male orientated list.

Group shouting outside organised by local Lib Dem Diversity campaign organiser.

The wiki pages around this whole debate are diabolical. So biased! There was a bit on the "get the L out" pride protest which painted the protesters like panto villains. I went through the whole page changing "gender" to "sex" and tried to include a link to the "get the L out" report but whoever was in charge of moderating edits undid all of it.

ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving · 13/06/2019 20:23

The Rational Wiki page on logical fallacies also includes a bunch of strawman GC arguments (which they call TERF arguments, obviously)

Manderleyagain · 13/06/2019 20:33

The whole festival of women's rights looks fab!

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/06/2019 21:39

Absolutely fantastic talk by Michele Moore; I will come back and post links to the films when up.

And we had a wonderful woman attend who has detranstioned and I know managed to speak to Michele. I had to leave early sadly, I'd have loved to hug both of them!

Outside - Couple of coppers with a police car, some youths just being nosy hanging out with them while the pink and blue draped chanters waved party balloons and demanded we protect trans kids. Hmm

I hope all is well as people leave tonight.

The whole festival of women's rights looks fab!

It does doesn't it!

GrumpyCatLives · 13/06/2019 22:23

I'm sure that most people at the meeting also wish to protect trans kids? Confused
