Women & Girls in Scotland survey report is finally out!

See link https://wgscotland.org.uk to download a copy of the report.

Some of you may remember the survey was posted here, on twitter, Facebook and other groups, way back in the autum last year. This was one of the threads on it at the time. The response was amazing, and despite efforts to 'ruin' the survey, there was no stopping the nearly 2000 of you (there were some trans activists who responded too) from engaging and having your say.

The results are included in the report but the outstanding part of this was the clear, heartfelt and often deeply personal views and responses that were given. It cannot be stressed enough how important all your voices were in this. So a huge, genuine & sincere thank you to everyone who took part, responded and not just in the level of engagement but in the way you all came together to collectively give voice to how we are all feeling and why.

The final report is months of sweat, toil and hard work by a team who hope to have given your voices the deserved elevation they should have had long before now.

Read it, share it, use it. Speak to your MPs, MSPs, councillors etc. Make sure these voices are heard in as many places as you can. Your voices need to be not just heard but acknowledged and listened to. It's time we got a seat at the table. ✊🏻

And once again, a massive thanks to all who took part. 🙏🏻

Good call! It’s amazing how the results turn out when you don’t bin the replies that disagree with you Angry

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 05/06/2019 07:20

Excellent work and reflects the opinion of the population of the UK more accurately than the City of London nonsense.

LangCleg · 05/06/2019 08:52

Honestly, WGS is doing such great work. I'm in awe at the time and effort and intelligence.

NonnyMouse1337 · 05/06/2019 08:53

Fantastic work. Will download the report and have a read. I have to read these reports and articles in small doses because it makes me so angry and frustrated to see women's concerns and experiences being ignored.

AudacityOfHope · 05/06/2019 08:57

Oh can't wait to read it! Will download it and it will look just like I'm working Grin

AudacityOfHope · 05/06/2019 09:13

God, the quotes are very moving aren't they. I count myself as very lucky in that I've never been seriously assaulted, or raped, or had a violent partner.

Reading how women would would rather kill themselves than be forced to access refuge support delivered by a man, or being gaslighted into calling a man a woman...it's quite devastating really.

YogaDrone · 05/06/2019 09:15

Thank you WGS Flowers

I've only skimmed the first few pages but it reads really well - rational, intelligent, well researched, practical and unemotional. I look forward to reading the rest of the report on the bus home from work.

Michelleoftheresistance · 05/06/2019 09:17

Will love to see this explained away - very concise and straight to the point at each section. Equality has to mean that sometimes biological sex comes first, and that gender identity needs must be met separately to ensure everyone's needs are met. I like too how they specifically point out that the sought point is the destruction of women's rights and protections and ceasing to meet women's needs in order to achieve the aim.

This is the point in the agenda that 'no' is a word that needs to be introduced.

frazzled1 · 05/06/2019 09:19

Fantastic work WGS. Consulting actual women on the impact of self-id, all those quotes, graphs, stats. Wow Flowers

LangCleg · 05/06/2019 09:20

I very much like the way they concentrate on social class and note that class-privileged women will not bear the brunt of social change in service of extremist genderist ideology. This is very much a bourgeois movement.

AudacityOfHope · 05/06/2019 11:19

And this seems to have just appeared.

consult.gov.scot/equality-unit/gender-representation-on-public-boards/

The act is allagedly seeking to promote gender representation on public boards, but you can appoint other people when certain characteristics or situations apply. Angry WONDER WHAT THOSE MIGHT BE.

Fuck sake. I am desperate for Scottish independence but I don't really feel I can continue to mandate the SNP given all this shit.

JackyHolyoake · 05/06/2019 11:24

Thank you WGS .. the report is excellent. Flowers Gin Cake

www.scotsman.com/news/politics/poll-women-in-scotland-want-to-retain-single-sex-facilities-1-4940267

The scotsman have picked it up at least. Happy to see phrases like "natal males who have a trans identity", "trans identified males", "male who identified as a woman" and "male bodied person" used liberally. No obfuscation of the issue here. Maybe Gina Davidson read the "pronouns are rohypnol" blog (maybe we should send it to her just in case).

theOtherPamAyres · 05/06/2019 12:19

I do hope that Angela Crawley, (MP, a member of the W&E Select Committee, SNP, self-declared Trans Ally) takes note.

Her questions to the Womens Services representatives, at a Select Committee hearing, betrayed a complete ignorance of the issues and a bias towards the inclusion of men. She seemed to think that an inclusive service was no problem unless there had been a ton of complaints.

While she was clueless and embarressing, she personified the cult that wants to get rid of 'sex' as a protected characterisitc. The fact that she is in a position to recommend government policy and action is frightening.

Read the report Angela and hang your head in shame.

MereMinion · 06/06/2019 01:33

A really great point, and one I've though of too. Watching the committee and Karen Ingala Smith's excellent testimony, knowing what I do re what the survey told us, it was clear to see what Angela was trying to do, and I'm glad that Karen was so unequivocal in her pushback on the language Angela was using, particularly that awful exert from Scottish Women's Aid.

Angela does indeed need to read this report to fill in those blanks that were written all over her face.

What I want to know at why the 'official' feminist groups in Scotland are so silent/complicit in all this?
They have vast budgets but right now are not doing their jobs.
Someone (Joan Mcalpine, if you are reading this?) needs to call them out and review their funding, this cannot continue.
What is feminism for if it is not to fight to put female interests first?
