Jeremy Corbyn's ridiculous speech

isabellerossignol · 04/06/2019 13:42

Just heard Jeremy Corbyn make a rousing speech where amongst other things he talks about how we must defeat misogyny.

He could perhaps start tackling that within his own party before he starts taking on the world Hmm

People just choose to despise JC

i don't despise Jeremy at all. As you say on a personal level he's a down to earth and quietly spoken guy. But I do think he is unaware of his own shadow; or certainly the shadow side of trendy, liberal lefty politics.

Justhadathought · 04/06/2019 16:36

Trust me...if all you have to moan about is JC’s speech then you are blinkered and you’ve been hoodwinked by the right wing propaganda

Honestly, give us a break! We're not stupid. Most of us here have been involved in left/radical politics for a long time....We're right to be disappointed that the woke left has abandoned women in the head-long rush to virtue signal on minority rights.

Justhadathought · 04/06/2019 16:39

And Trump insisting that the NHS is up for discussion on any trade deal. Fuck off Trump and take your disgusting attitudes with you

Not sure why you are going on about right wing politics and Trump. this thread is about Jeremy Corbyn and by extension the Labour party.

It's not a binary you know? Wink: wink Politics can be far more nuanced than Left/Right.

Justhadathought · 04/06/2019 16:40

And he hasn’t a prayer of succeeding..not because if his views (a lot of which I disagree) but because the right wing media has told people what to think

And it is just super smart people like yourself that can see through that?
The rest of us are just gullible dumbos. Not!

ALittleBitofVitriol · 04/06/2019 16:42

Distract us with the shiny Trump and we hopefully won't see the left's raging, hypocritical misogyny eh?

TakenForSlanted · 04/06/2019 16:42

Oh, god, yesssssssss!!!

I can't stand it when men try to take credit for their feminism. The few actually feminist (or feminist ally, if you take the position that men can't really be feminists) men I know never would because they're smart enough to know that they don't get to speak on behalf of women.

Best thing a man has ever said to me on the subject was: "the best I can do as a man is to believe you, to applaud you for speaking up, to practise what I preach in my own life and to STFU when women speak on women's issues but have their back when my fellow men don't get it. And never, ever, to pontificate because I don't have a fucking clue".

He's my hero (for other reasons, actually, but this decidedly helps).

NameChangeNugget · 04/06/2019 16:43

Totally agree OP.

He’s a complete melt

GCAcademic · 04/06/2019 16:44

Quite. This is a favourite deflection tactic of Corbyn supporters. My very own husband is guilty of it. Well, guess what? I don't happen to think that relying on the fact that there are worse politicians than you, or noting that that lot are Islamopobic, so your anti-Semitism is therefore not that bad, is the kind of tactic that will bring out voters in their droves. Decent politicians should aspire to more than this.

GCAcademic · 04/06/2019 16:46

The Tory who blocked upskirting, I think he had a valid reason for it. He tries to block all bills which are snuck through without being debated.
He objects so that they have to be debated.
He didn't pick out this one bill, he does it often.

Except, he doesn't do it when one of his mates puts forward a bill.

tobee · 04/06/2019 16:48

Yeah I think I probably am aware about propaganda.

tobee · 04/06/2019 16:52

Or even of propaganda

AmeriAnn · 04/06/2019 17:02

I'm right wing Trump supporter. He's our man to get the job done. We didn't elect him to be our minister, choir boy or whatever. He's our hired gun and doing a fine job of it.

People are reading too much Lefty propaganda.

I remember the crying here about him hating women so much he would never talk to Teresa May. FFS he had a woman as his campaign manager - the first woman ever to lead a successful Presidential campaign.

Trump has people of all races and genders in his cabinet. He hires the best people for the job and NOT for the sake of diversity. But still the silly buggers didn't know this because the fucking Guardian (or whatever shit you read) told them he was a woman hater and would start a nuke war with NK.

He's over there doing trade deals right now so you can tell Europe to fuck off.

Corbin can fuck off as far as I'm concerned.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 04/06/2019 17:05

Yeah right.

Justhadathought · 04/06/2019 17:07

Eddie Izard being prepared to stand on women only short-lists is going to seriously piss people off. Used to love Eddie.

I think Jeremy, to be fair, goes along with all of the TWAW stuff because of his woke young demographic - not because he's seriously thought about it. Jeremy has still got his eye on the prize he's always been after ( a people's anti-capitalist revolution/Brexit) - meanwhile many of his old demographic are looking elsewhere; he's not the man for them. Too concerned with minority rights and appeasing terrorists.

LassOfFyvie · 04/06/2019 17:10

I do. I think he is a stupid, vain, petulant little man with lashings of misogyny. I supported Labour until he became leader.

FloralBunting · 04/06/2019 17:10

Public notice: This is not a thread about Trump.

Justhadathought · 04/06/2019 17:12

You don't need to read any propaganda to see he's a narcissist of the highest order. You hired him because he spoke to the common working people - in a way that Jeremy Corbyn does not. He appeals to people's prejudices and frustrations. He's still a nut job, though. Roaming around the world winding people up.

PickleC · 04/06/2019 17:14

Definitely not going to defend the policy on all women shortlists, but to call JC misogynist is going a bit far. Defending pro-choice views, an international aid plan that makes much of supporting grassroots women's organisations, attacking inequality at home and low benefits that disproportionately hit women - all this is feminist. Not perfect, not explicit enough, not going far enough - but in practical terms for how policies impact on women I would choose them over the Tories any day of the week.

isabellerossignol · 04/06/2019 17:14

My dad always used to do this. 'No one hears about X because the media don't want you to know'. Oh dad, how did you hear about it then? 'Saw it on the news'.

So...you saw it on the news but no one else did? Special report for you was it?

Ah, I miss him. We used to have this argument day and daily. Grin

I posted this on another thread.

Or looking at his policies, listening to his words, watching his actions and yes, reading his Tweets and making up their own minds.

Maybe.

GCAcademic · 04/06/2019 17:20

Public notice: This is not a thread about Trump.

Indeed. The derailers have been out in force today.

I think about the moment when I was rudely awakened - in the last couple of years - to the visceral misogyny of the left, and it seems that that moment represented a perfect storm of the global elevation of the transgender agenda and the election of Corbyn as party leader.

FloralBunting · 04/06/2019 17:21

Yeah, I wouldn't vote Tory over Labour in general, but I'm always curious that women are expected to put up with crumbs and an assurance that Labour 'aren't that bad'.

Just for clarity, I think Corbyn is an agitator, local level union organizer who let his ego get ahead of him, has zero leadership ability and no workable ideas of his own, surrounded by shit advisers.

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 04/06/2019 17:23

Trump is possibly the most ignorant, racist, xenphobic, mysoginistic World leader. He constantly lies, he is untrustworthy and he is a loose cannon who could well start a major war at any time.

So we should turn a blind eye to Corbyn's misogyny? The guy can't even define what a women is let alone defeat misogyny.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 04/06/2019 17:24

He’s the oldest student political activist in town. Reminds me of the old socialist worker types at uni.
