Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

A pleasant surprise

NC for this as very outing.

I came across a number of Tweets from a user whose profile described him as a serving officer with the Met. This is the complaint I sent yesterday:

Jon Killen, a emergency response officer in the MPS and LGBT+ officer, is issuing Tweets that I consider misogynist. His Twitter account (@LDNResponseCop) clearly identifies him professionally, so he cannot argue that he's only offering personal opinions. I cannot think his social media presence is doing anything good for the Met. It seems highly unprofessional. Certainly I would have less confidence were I involved in an incident and had to deal with Jon Killen than I would in a generic officer. Please look at what he's saying - and the response from many LGBT Twitter users who find his Tweets offensive. The police must be seen to be impartial.

I got a call from an inspector this morning. He'd gone through the officer's Tweets and agreed with me. He said it wasn't a disciplinary matter as there were no personally offensive Tweets but that the Tweets definitely overstepped the bounds of what a serving police officer should be saying on social media. A conversation was in order and he would be talking to the officer soon.

Only a small step, but I was pleased the Met seems to have taken it seriously.

I literally have parts of my degree in a) language and b) feminism’s approach to gender, so I’m good re: my use of these terms, but thanks for your concern.

“Just stop”. I wish that worked for your transphobia!

JessicaWakefieldSV · 04/06/2019 17:38

Nobody here is being transphobic. What is your degree exactly? You should ask for your money back.

GassyAss · 04/06/2019 17:42

Zoe you mentioned upthread about GC feminists attacking transwomen. I’ve never seen that happen in the news or on MN. Do you have some examples please?

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 04/06/2019 17:42

brilliant Zoe, I'm hoping you might be able to describe this feminine brain you keep referring to. If I ask Jordan Peterson types, they're very happy to tell me what a feminine brain is like, examples being

  1. less assertive, more submissive than men
  2. less organised, more chaotic, maybe a bit ditzy
  3. more interested in people than things
  4. not great at science or maths in general
  5. not capable of works of great genius, more suited to mediocre, middle of the road type work
  6. interested in pretty, frivolous things
  7. kind and caring

so do any of these examples figure in your definition of a female brain? what would you add or take away?

lorit · 04/06/2019 17:42

Ahhhhh that explains a lot Smile

Literally? Interesting choice of word!

Tends to undermine whatever comes next.. given TRA use of it!

And I am so very sorry (see, being nice) but the idea that you studied feminism's approach to gender asde me smile. Of course you did a Gender Studies style degree! It all makes sense now! Word salads and all!

FloralBunting · 04/06/2019 17:45

Bless. I'm quite sure your degree is pomo-tastic.

But your feminism is cocked to shit because you actually think gender is something that should determine how women live their lives.

It doesn’t show 😂

Well it’s one of the brains you have, so look within!? Is your vagina literally the only thing that makes you the woman you are? Depressing stuff.

English Language & Literature, I had some great modules. Literature and psychoanalysis was a highlight if anyone wants course recommendations! Even the hagiographies from the Middle Ages had some fascinating gender stuff. Saint Eugenia and Saint Euphrosine are some queer AF tales. But I don’t think I’ll rehash my degree contents for free, that shizzle was pricey and I did a lot of work to earn my result!

Zoecb · 04/06/2019 17:56

I’d recommend Judith Butler - Gender Trouble.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 04/06/2019 17:57

Is your vagina literally the only thing that makes you the woman you are?

I dunno Zoe, I'm asking for your help. what out of my list do you agree makes you a woman apart from your vagina? what would you add? what would you remove?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/06/2019 17:57

Huh? Never mind! We get it, really we do!

We see you Zoecb, we see you!

ZebrasAreBras · 04/06/2019 17:57

"Parts of your degree" zoe ? What like a module, or subsidiary subject? I did a subsidiary in sociology as "part of my degree" - I don't consider myself an expert in sociology.

It's blatantly clear that you don't have the first clue of even the most basic principles of radical feminism.

You have been taught some bs "intersectional feminism" (no doubt in some bs Gender Studies module) that has taught you that males should be centered in feminism, because of how they feel, and that men that feel like women, literally are women and that they are the most oppressed of all oppressed people. And you've fallen for it.

You have been spoonfed this utter nonsense by misogynists, who have taken over Gender Studies, half of all academia, and a lot of the Arts and Social Sciences, and who don't like feminism, and don't like women who refuse to bow down to men.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 04/06/2019 17:58

if it depresses you to define a woman just by her biology, share how you do know you're a woman - I'm genuinely interested

DrG · 04/06/2019 18:00

Zoe has a degree with parts in it, including languagy parts but not, clearly, sciencey parts.. and there’s the rub.

Still what has science ever done for mankind.

And she or he has lapped it up instead of questioning it. Just shows, you don’t have to be intelligent to earn a degree.

FloralBunting · 04/06/2019 18:08

My vagina is indeed one of the specific parts of the female anatomy that means I am part of the sex class 'woman'. Nothing else about my personality is specific to my sex. Not my hairstyle, not my relationships, not my accent, not my job, not my education, not my stellar wit, not my feelings.

The disadvantages I face due to my sex in relation to all those things is exacerbated by people like you thinking gender is in any way a way to define me and other women.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 04/06/2019 18:09

The sexism of saying 'women are like this inside and men are like that' has always worried me. I'm hoping to put that to bed today.

I'm hoping for a non sexist list of characteristics that I share with Jane Fae that makes us both women in Zoe's world view.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/06/2019 18:12

Talking of body parts, may I refer Our Zoe to this thread... read the linked piece and then come back...
