I don't know if this has already been mentioned - I can't find it if it has - but wtf.
I have so many questions about and problems with this I don't even know where to begin.

I am not sure when ethics committees are consulted in terms of research with embryos but surely this seems totally beyond the pale. I am not sure whether I would even support it for other women.

I remembered reading a thread on this a few months ago:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3503170-Womb-transplants-for-trans-women-are-a-human-right-says-surgeon?pg=2

GottaGetUp · 29/05/2019 07:43

There is absolutely nothing linked to Imperial College here. It’s just a random bit of text that someone has posted, along with a nonsense email address.

It doesn’t do anyone any favours to be this credulous.

Artbum · 29/05/2019 07:43

This must be a hoax. The womb is not a gro-bag but part of a complex system system that would be impossible to replicate with pills or injections, surely.

JellySlice · 29/05/2019 07:48

Mengele

I have a womb I would like to give to the most insistent T W. They’d soon learn that wombs are not like shopping bags in which you grow babies. They are organs that have minds of their own and can spew out blood at the most inappropriate times. I reckon 45 minutes of my womb at its worst would freak them all out and they’d shut up. Let’s see a T W deal with endo and adenomyosis and the accompanying pain, anaemia & mess.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 29/05/2019 07:52

What next? The ability to give birth to a dog or baby hippo? Why ever not? I’m sure there is someone out there who really really really wants to be momma to a real bear cub.

merrymouse · 29/05/2019 08:00

wombtransplantuk.org

This is the website - I can't find anything that relates to the screenshot in the OP.

I agree with GottaGetUP. Unless somebody can link to a source, this looks like stirring.

donquixotedelamancha · 29/05/2019 08:06

Someone tell me how to opt out of donating my womb in the worst case scenario.

Organ donors do not donate wombs. Anything outside the normal schedule requires individual consent.

I read a paper on the surgical aspects of womb transplants in males a while back- we are a long way off.

If I recall correctly it required redirecting arteries and removing some bone from the pelvis. Even if you got it in there, the absence of an exit would create substantial challenges.

The UK Womb Transplant research team hypothesise that whilst there are additional anatomical, hormonal, fertility, and obstetric complexities,

Um, no shit! 😂

The current research doesn't mention transplants to men
wombtransplantuk.org/research/current-research-programme

But why would anyone make up that screenshot? They want transwomen to contact this organisation for what? To see there are willing guinea pigs?

LizzieSiddal · 29/05/2019 08:27

KatVon They probably want to be able to state that a huge number of TW want a womb transplant, the demand is there so they should receive money for research.

Its just manipulation and lies.

merrymouse · 29/05/2019 08:33

But why would anyone make up that screenshot?

Mischief making? For the same reasons that anybody creates fake news on social media?

GottaGetUp · 29/05/2019 08:33

But why would anyone make up that screenshot?

For shits and giggles.

To rile up the terfs and/or delusional men.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 29/05/2019 08:33

It must be that! How awful!
What a thing to lie about!

There's people on that reddit thread wondering if they can give birth through their artificial vaginas, that it could work. They don't understand biology at all.

It's giving vulnerable people false hope and it's cruel.

The organisation they've linked to states women everywhere!! It's about female to female womb transplants.

And by women they seem to be talking about adult human females.

I'm coming down on the side of hoax.

I fucking hope so, anyway.

AlwaysComingHome · 29/05/2019 08:37

The Woke would be the first people to scream ‘Frankenstein!’ at the thought of genetically modified wheat but they are okay with this.

JellySlice · 29/05/2019 08:37

Implant uteri into men. Implant, not transplant. Language matters.

titchy · 29/05/2019 08:43

Anyone want to email Imperial to ask if they approved this...? Bet they haven't and it's a hoax.

resisterpersister · 29/05/2019 08:43

This study may be a hoax, but make no mistake, this is something people are working towards. There's a market for it, kudos for the scientists on being the first to achieve it, and a near religious zeal for transhumanism among many in biotech (e.g. see Martine Rothblatt).

See this article from the 90s about the idea of male pregnancy without a womb:

www.nytimes.com/1994/11/27/magazine/how-to-get-a-man-pregnant.html?pagewanted=all

SarahTancredi · 29/05/2019 08:52

Didnt it kill the last Male person they tried this on?

They cant do this until they have figured out how to keep a baby alive outside of the human female body for the whole 9 months. And once they have done that they then they wont needn't transplant anyway

Ereshkigal · 29/05/2019 08:53

The Woke would be the first people to scream ‘Frankenstein!’ at the thought of genetically modified wheat but they are okay with this.

Indeed.

LassOfFyvie · 29/05/2019 08:58

Just had a quick look and Imperial have been conducting animal tests for uterus transplants:
spiral.imperial.ac.uk/handle/10044/1/30828

That is absolutely vile and completely indefensible. No one , trans woman or natal woman , needs a womb transplant.

Animal rights concerns me a lot and is one of the reasons I am opposed to almost all assisted fertility , including IVF and surrogacy. Millions of laboratory animals tortured and killed for no good reason.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 29/05/2019 09:02

While we are on Imperial College, a shout out to the vice-provost, who was recently targeted for bullying by TRAs.
Her crime? Well she mentioned biology and respectful debate. This of course is not allowed. So a witch hunt immediately started.

I was pleased to see there was only about 7 likes on the pink news article. People can surely see this is bullying plain and simple.
