Bromley & Chislehurst CLP apparently. Heartening read, assuming it's true. Lily et al not happy about it on Twitter, calls to attend the meeting and vote it down.

So interesting. Genuinely brave! I haven't joined the Labour Party though my in laws are active members and I usually vote them or Green, but as this would be my local branch, I am now tempted to join to see if I can help with this!

Many thanks for sharing OP.

You have to be a member for 12 months [or is it 6 months] before you can vote on any party issue.

Toohardtofindaproperusername · 27/05/2019 18:05

Not that long I don’t think but it is really important to sign up if you want to support as we need left leaning folk. It’s vicious in the party where I live so don a hard hat if u are a socialists. Tho maybe it’s easier i some part say of country.

Snapespeare · 27/05/2019 18:07

I'm a member of Bromley Chislehurst CLP. I plan to attend.

JackyHolyoake · 27/05/2019 18:14

Nothing would make me rejoin Labour now. I'm done with it. Not one of the MPs or Unions has the courage to stand up against the misogyny. They are all content to sit there and see ordinary women members be abused. And, I include all women MPs and women Union officials in my contempt for Labour and the Union movement.

[It's all very well being told that some women are working in the background to effect change within Labour but that doesn't help the women being abused right now! If Labour MPs and Union officials had the courage to speak up this would lessen the current levels of abuse and at the very least demonstrate that women in Labour are not isolated.] Cowards, each and every one of them.

[Ditto contempt for all other political parties.]

We need a new organisation, some sort of Women's Association, that represents adult human females and says so publicly.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 27/05/2019 18:24

Positive news, hope people feel brave enough to vote for truth over lies.

17 year old Ben doesn't want to see women being consulted on something which dramatically impacts their rights and will do "everything to ensure it fails resoundingly"

Thanks Ben. Very progressive of you.

Hmm
happydappy2 · 27/05/2019 19:42

This so clearly highlights why Lily should not be in the role of womens officer....when the adults take responsibility and remover them from the post.

MacaroonMama · 27/05/2019 21:04

Snapespeare and frazzled1 would you mind updating this thread if you go? I have work tomorrow evening that I can't get out of. Sorry, I would have liked to attend to support.

janniblueeyes · 27/05/2019 21:26

Good evening ladies! I’m Jann, I’m the Secretary of Bromley & Chislehurst Labour Party and am heartened to hear such good, supportive comments from you about our motion. We welcome any members-new & old. Please come along, you’ll be very welcome.

AlwaysComingHome · 27/05/2019 21:32

I really hope Lily publicly opposes this.

Nothing would better indicate their unsuitability for the job.

bettybeans · 27/05/2019 21:40

Evening Jann. I'm sure you probably anticipated reaction coming from certain quarters and are prepared for it - I hope the motion is given proper consideration and isn't derailed by the usual nonsense. Wishing you all the very best with this.

S1naidSucks · 27/05/2019 21:46

Welcome janniblueeyes. I must admit I was very cynical about what women’s groups you were referring to, until I read that line about including women that don’t believe people can change sex. Good luck and I hope it goes well.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 27/05/2019 22:09

Good luck Jann
I've recently left the party over this, it still makes me feel so bad. 26 years I was a member. Hopefully Labour will speak for women again soon.

ZebrasAreBras · 27/05/2019 22:09

Thank you, Bromley & Chislehurst CLP. You're in my neck of the woods, although I'm not a labour member. This gives me hope though Smile
Please keep fighting the good cause for women and girls everywhere (whether they agree with you or not!)

Angryresister · 27/05/2019 22:17

Watching with interest. About time the local groups made their views felt and changed the bullying culture that exists on this topic

iguanadonna · 27/05/2019 22:26

Maybe I won't leave the party after all. I'd decided that women like me, who think that female bodies should be centered in feminism, weren't wanted any more. But perhaps it's possible to find ways to connect with other women in the party who think we matter.

Voice0fReason · 27/05/2019 22:49

Watching with interest but I am very sceptical of this working.
I'm not convinced Labour have the backbone to stand up to the TRAs.

MrsFogi · 27/05/2019 22:56

I'm pleased to see there are some GC women in the area (I was beginning to wonder if I was on my own Grin).

frazzled1 · 27/05/2019 23:22

I'm not in the area any longer MacaroonMama but am very interested in any further updates on this. Best of luck with the motion janniblueeyes.

Coyoacan · 28/05/2019 03:07

I'm not in the UK, but I was wondering when I heard how poorly Labour did in the recent elections how much that is to do with losing women's votes.

Good luck tomorrow night, this is long overdue.

janniblueeyes · 28/05/2019 08:21

Thanks very much all of you! I’ll keep you posted, if you don’t hear from others before. x

VickyEadie · 28/05/2019 09:37

It's only one constituency party, though - I'd be more heartened if this happened in at least a few more.
