Bromley & Chislehurst CLP apparently. Heartening read, assuming it's true. Lily et al not happy about it on Twitter, calls to attend the meeting and vote it down.

Good luck janniblueeyes & other Bromley & Chislehurst CLP members. As others have said, how can a women's officer oppose discussion with women's groups?

how poorly Labour did in the recent elections how much that is to do with losing women's votes.

Coyoacan That is an interesting point. Women switching to Labour was a big reason why they won in 1997. A few years ago I would have said there would have been huge attention in Labour to analysing if the party was becoming less popular with women. Doesn't seem to be the case now.

Both local and Euro elections have lower turnouts so it's hard to make a judgement about Labour's appeal to women without any inside information but it's a possibility. There is also something called the British Election Studies which reports in detail on electoral turnout. Not sure if they have released 2017 results yet. However, the hashtag #Labourlosingwomen suggests that it might be a problem.

In fact there are other CLPs who have proposed similar motions - some successfully, such as Tottenham a year ago. There was opposition of course but most members agreed that proper and full consultation was crucial and proper impact assessments undertaken. Good luck Bromley & Chiselhurst!

RubyViolet · 28/05/2019 11:32

Good luck Janniblueeyes, l am in Jeremy’s ward, there is zero chance of any discussion on this. The woke bros wouldn’t have it.

MacaroonMama · 28/05/2019 12:33

Good luck Jann! I can't make the meeting but I'll email you (from the official Labour party pages) if ok? Your words are so carefully chosen that anyone opposing will appear quite unreasonable. I hope! Yes please keep us posted.

LizzieSiddal · 28/05/2019 12:40

Wow this is fantastic! Thank you Bromley & Chislehurst CLP

The charge to call us all bigots is being led by a 17 year old boy.

It would be amusing if this stuff didn't have real life consequences.

Snapespeare · 28/05/2019 14:36

I do clearly remember being 17 and thinking I knew everything and I think 17 year olds SHOULD challenge things.
But I'm fucked if I'm going to be labelled a bigot for defending women's sex based rights. I joined the Labour party just after the miners strike. I went on pride as a teenager, before it was a corporate rainbow-fest. I matched against apartheid and stood outside South Africa House and I went on the Wapping picket line every Saturday and Wednesday for a year. I have a treasured gay son. I wish no harm on transgender people, I deny them no rights, other than the 'right' of access to places reserved for women to preserve womens rights based on their biological sex.

I do not deny the existence of transgender people, how can I when the activists are so loud? Confused Hmm all I want is a respectful discussion in the context of women and girls having access to places without male bodied trans women - and for women to at least be allowed to discuss this without being labelled a bigot, terf, cis or 'short-haired.'

WHY must women move over for everyone else and then not complain?

Needmoresleep · 28/05/2019 15:03

Comments on that twitter thread seem considered and thoughtful. People don't agree. There seem to be no obvious counterarguments. What is that automatically a pile-one.

It all seems to boil down to TWAW - because men say so.

bettybeans · 28/05/2019 15:17

It's tough because part of me thinks it's all a bit much for a 17 year old and I should be kind but then I remember that he's not being remotely kind to women and that this stuff is actually a real danger. So yeah. Sorry not sorry Ben. You clearly need to understand the magnitude of the damage you're actively driving.

Fair enough! (And unless he was also trans-age, he'd have had to lose two years somewhere too.) Politically motivated tribe, these McGowans.

Snapespeare · 28/05/2019 21:45

Piss. Lost 9/11 with two abstentions and lots of micro aggressions about women bring ' emotional' and needing to be educated about LGBT issues.

Snapespeare · 28/05/2019 21:46

Oh and two abstentions (...) So it WAS really close and we continue trying to have the discussion.

sorenipples · 28/05/2019 21:49

Sad to hear that. Presumably it is only the kind of women with uteruses who get emotional? If only there was a word for them.

Redshoeblueshoe · 28/05/2019 21:49

Sorry about that

sorenipples · 28/05/2019 21:50

Out of interest what was male/female divide on vote?

TheInebriati · 28/05/2019 21:50

I look forwards to Labour repeating this with the rights of other groups.

Snapespeare · 28/05/2019 22:04

Fairly mixed. Some notably vocal male supporters of the motion, who spoke really well. I don't speak well on important things. I get short of breath.

I'm just so cross at the hypocrisy and micro aggressions. Twitter Ben then moved a motion on affiliation to Jewish Labour, on the basis that Jewish people should be listened to - and heard on anti-Semitism. Unlike women on women's spaces.

Snapespeare · 28/05/2019 22:06

And a few noticeable beardy woke bros who called women 'ciswomen' and said Transwomen are THE most oppressed and THE most at risk.

needmorespace · 28/05/2019 22:09

ok, so I didn't vote labour last week because of their fence sitting re brexit.
But, the gender shite is the reason I won't be voting for labour in the next election.
Cunts

Thank you for trying to fight our corner snapespeare.

Thank you snapespeare from an 'emotiona'l woman Angry Sad.

Huge shout out to the comrade who wrote the motion. She was very precise in moving it and spoke well. It wasn't an easy thing to do.

nettie434 · 28/05/2019 22:33

snapespeare so the motion was lost but a debate was had. Who knows what the abstensions think now? And even some of the beardy wokers. Most people haven't really thought about the topic so the arguments are often quite new.

As for Twitter Ben and affiliating to Jewish Labour, the timing looks really bad!

Courage comrades! It was great that you made it clear that everything is not done and dusted.
