Mermaids response to piece in Mail tomorrow

Looking forward to seeing what drops

www.mermaidsuk.org.uk/press-enquiry-from-the-mail-on-sunday-25th-may-2019.html

We are very proud of the training we offer to schools and we have a proven record of helping teachers to support vulnerable children who simply want to get along with their lessons like any of their classmates.

We are disappointed to find that a school governor has made a covert recording of our training because our presentations are not held in secret and all of the scientific and legal information we offer is publicly available and well-tested.

We are surprised to see that a Church of England rector is complaining about our training when we are included in the CoE guidance on support for transgender people, which can be found here.

Part of the work of Mermaids is giving training talks to schools. These talks are well received and are an important part of how we promote an inclusive and informed approach to trans children and those who support them.

We have been contacted by the Mail on Sunday who are doing an article about one such talk. This post is our response, in accordance with our policy of posting our replies to media queries for the benefit of anyone interested in our activities.

The instructor said: 'We now know through advancements in science that that is not fact. The human race has many more combinations of chromosomes.'

But Steve Jones, emeritus professor of genetics at University College London, called the statement 'misleading'.

'In 99.9 per cent of all cases, boys are XY and girls are XX,' he said.

Those are big scientific guns coming out against Mermaids.

Thingybob · 26/05/2019 00:13

Dont miss listening to the embedded audio in the article. It sounds like the Mermaids trainer was Jelly Baby Jan again

Needmoresleep · 26/05/2019 00:17

Flowers also to Sanchez Manning who has written some very good clear articles on this topic. I liked the way experts were used to rebut the various Mermaids assertions.

JackyHolyoake · 26/05/2019 00:21

Thank you OccasionalKite

Sorry for letting my rage at Mermaids and its dangerous influence get the better of me, though.

Caucho · 26/05/2019 00:22

Damn. Whilst I don’t doubt a word it’s a shame the whistle blower is a Vicar. I don’t have anything against Vicars but it offers an opportunity to, and can see it being spun as some religious person being negative to ‘progressive’ movements

Caucho · 26/05/2019 00:23

On the plus side he is also a Cambridge educated biologist so can’t be portrayed as a stupid nutter

Caucho · 26/05/2019 00:33

Oxford not Cambridge doh but both are just as worthy. I’m not an education snob but it’s more difficult to anoint him being an idiot when you have that kind of background. What is more worrying is that not only did he have to quit his role as Governor but also the church (his job effectively) because the Bishop and other higher powers disagreed. I’m an atheist personally so won’t take advice or guidance from the Church but it’s worrying that they behave in this manner as there are many people who are Christian and are influenced by these upper echelons even if they don’t follow every word spoken

Erythronium · 26/05/2019 00:35

The trainer was hostile and ignorant and a complete bully to the vicar in that clip in the article.

He's had to resign from his job because of this. How many people have lost livelihoods because of the trans juggernaut?

JackyHolyoake · 26/05/2019 00:40

Here is more:

"When it came to toilets and changing rooms, the trainer claimed: 'The Equality Act is unambiguous – you can't prevent anyone using the facilities of the gender with which they identify.'

But Ms Jones said this was 'plain wrong', adding: 'Either they don't understand the law or they are twisting the truth.'

She added that the Act contained clear exemptions which meant transgender individuals could be excluded from single-sex areas if there was a legitimate reason, such as to preserve the privacy of most people who used them "

Everything the proponents of "gender identity" ideology have told you and the law is untrue with regard to children and adults!

UK law is very clear ... the GRA 2004 acknowledges that no human can change their sex ... that its purpose is to create a Legal Fiction.

The Equality Act 2010 excludes "transsexuals" ["transgender" has zero meaning in any UK law] from the safe spaces of the opposite sex in all circumstances of privacy, wellbeing, safety, dignity and fairness.

The law infers that there is a blanket ban on the male sex violating the boundaries of the female sex. There is no "case-by-case" scenario written in our UK law.

Hospitals, health, care, prison, rape, domestic violence services are totally exempt from the presence of males, regardless of how they present themselves, when it comes to services delivered to females.

See: Equality Act 2010, Schedule 3 [Services and public functions: exceptions]

Section 27: [Single-sex services]

sub-section 5: (5)The condition is that the service is provided at a place which is, or is part of—

(a) a hospital, or

(b) another establishment for persons requiring special care, supervision or attention.

JackyHolyoake · 26/05/2019 00:41

Oops!

"Everything the proponents of "gender identity" ideology have told you and the law is untrue with regard to children and adults!"

should read:

"Everything the proponents of "gender identity" ideology have told you about the law is untrue with regard to children and adults!"

Caucho · 26/05/2019 00:42

Who’s going to stop this shit though. Only far right groups would commit to it like UKIP and none of us want to vote for them because of all of their other policies. So we are left to the big two L & C then the Lib Dems, Greens, SNP and they are all in favour of this shite. Of course I realise most MPs are like us and don’t honestly believe this but they’re terrified to come out and anything against it because they’ll be Nazis and Facists if they do that

Thingybob · 26/05/2019 00:51

Yes Jan is the most awful bully rallying her troop of woke teachers, who weren't any better. What happened to the usual ethos of 'no bullying in school'? I assume bullying is allowable if it's just a C&E vicar being the target.

I don't know if you listened to it all the way through Erythronium, but at 15 minutes in, John Parker is sobbing.

PlayYouLikeAShark · 26/05/2019 00:53

I've just listened to the clip from the article. That trainer is defensive, aggressive, bullying & clearly incapable of answering questions on the content of what she's just "trained" to the point she's deflected in an appalling way. It's like listening to the playground bully mock & aggressively deflect from responsibility for the words she's spoken in that training session. It's an awful display of petulance & appallingly unprofessional. This is what's being brought into schools? Unbelievable. I can believe the head actually encouraged and enabled that behaviour. The deference & fawning over someone who hasn't got a clue about the accuracy or legality of what she's training on is also awful to hear.

JackyHolyoake · 26/05/2019 00:54

Who’s going to stop this shit though

Our UK law will stop it. Our law is really very clear .. and it has been utterly misrepresented [deliberately or otherwise] by those who propagate "gender identity" ideology.

Our UK law expresses the requirement to exclude all males, regardless of how they choose to present themselves, from all spaces, services etc that are specific to females. If you read the entirety of the GRA 2004 and the entirety of the Equality Act 2010 carefully there are no circumstances where any "case-by-case" scenario arises.

The "transgender" lobby has been gaslighting our society across all of our pubic institutions. [Although, why I label it as a "transgender" lobby is beyond me since "transgender" has zero legal meaning in our UK law.]

BoreOfWhabylon · 26/05/2019 00:55

Another cracking article by Sanchez Manning for the MOS. Well done Sanchez!

Thingybob · 26/05/2019 00:59

Playyoulikeashark As I said in a previous post, Jan is not just a Trainer, she is Mermaids Training Manager!

Datun · 26/05/2019 01:00

That clip was difficult to stomach. I have zero confidence that the school can support any children when they condone the bullying of an adult.

PlayYouLikeAShark · 26/05/2019 01:08

I missed that thingy, that's even worse.

PlayYouLikeAShark · 26/05/2019 01:14

I just watched that clip you posted thingybob - she's actually said there they provide accurate information from credible sources. 'Knell.

JackyHolyoake · 26/05/2019 01:22

And I have just realised that this is the same "Mermaids Trainer" that was recorded before some months ago [in Birmingham, I think it was]. Her understanding of UK law is zero!

The recordings were published online and were rightly referred to as "cod-science".

Mermaids, it seems, my have no understanding of biology, law or medical practice, it seems.

Susie Green and Jan. What are your medical, legal or biological expertise here? Please explain your qualifications. Thank you.

Thingybob · 26/05/2019 01:23

If you cherry pick sources and put a spin on it, then any agenda or ideology can be plausible.

But what I find incredible is that Drs, Nurses, Police Officers, Teachers, Politicians, Social Workers etc are taking this person (or people like her) seriously.

PlayYouLikeAShark · 26/05/2019 01:28

I agree - the cowardliness of the others in that session not supporting a colleague asking questions highlights the issues. None of them wanted to earn the wrath of being labelled a bigot & said zero in support when asked if they wanted to hear what John had to say. That's what's shocking there too. I can't imagine them being able to stick up for other children impacted by the misinformation from mermaids. It's scary actually that no other adults in that room challenged that.

Thingybob · 26/05/2019 01:28

Susie Green and Jan. What are your medical, legal or biological expertise here?

They both had a child assigned the wrong sex at birth, isn't that enough?

PlayYouLikeAShark · 26/05/2019 01:29

And of course some might be fully on board with the trans agenda, which is as scary too.

JackyHolyoake · 26/05/2019 01:32

I suspect it may be because of pressure of available time to apply critical analysis. All of our public institutions have been under enormous pressure during this period of public sector service cuts. More experienced public sector staff have taken the offers of early retirement to facilitate public sector service cuts, which has left a body of younger staff with much less prior experience, knowledge and wisdom. [Been there, seen and done that, worn the T-shirt and the mug got smashed ages ago].

And so the predators work on the naive prey!
