Looking forward to seeing what drops

www.mermaidsuk.org.uk/press-enquiry-from-the-mail-on-sunday-25th-may-2019.html

We are very proud of the training we offer to schools and we have a proven record of helping teachers to support vulnerable children who simply want to get along with their lessons like any of their classmates.

We are disappointed to find that a school governor has made a covert recording of our training because our presentations are not held in secret and all of the scientific and legal information we offer is publicly available and well-tested.

We are surprised to see that a Church of England rector is complaining about our training when we are included in the CoE guidance on support for transgender people, which can be found here.

Part of the work of Mermaids is giving training talks to schools. These talks are well received and are an important part of how we promote an inclusive and informed approach to trans children and those who support them.

We have been contacted by the Mail on Sunday who are doing an article about one such talk. This post is our response, in accordance with our policy of posting our replies to media queries for the benefit of anyone interested in our activities.

That recording was shocking. Awful lies and aggression from the trainer, backed up by the sheep staff.

I hope the staff and governors in that school have a good think this morning.

John Parker knew his stuff; that's why they were trying so hard to shut him down.

Carowiththegoodhair · 26/05/2019 09:17

This video which contains the recording of the Mermaids session & a brief interview with the vicar is well worth watching.

Sexnotgender · 26/05/2019 09:24

You’re all now honorary mermaids - whether you want to be or not Shock

Nope, not a cult...

JackyHolyoake · 26/05/2019 09:26

That statement Jan made about governors is terrifying, A school's Governing Body carries the legal liability for what goes on in a school. Of course governors should be able to analyse and comment about everything to do with "gender identity" ideology before it is pushed into any school, as they would with anything else. They would be failing in their legal duty if they did not do this.

AnyOldPrion · 26/05/2019 09:27

That recording is absolutely chilling. Talk about a pack mentality - all the others there seem to be virtue-signalling wildly and are falling over themselves to demonstrate their woke credentials, while the trainer is a complete and utter disgrace.

Haven’t finished listening yet, but there’s a telling moment from about the 5.30 minute mark, where two female voices discuss the fact that it’s all about supporting the child, even if they don’t really believe it. Sad they didn’t stand up for John, but perhaps given what’s happened, they might now go and look outside their supportive kindness bubble and see what’s going on outside.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 26/05/2019 09:30

They need to be banned from schools. They manipulate and frankly lie about the law.

As for the Vicky the Vixen book.....
All the words I have are rude. Dress up how you want, that has nothing to do with your sex. They need to be banned from schools.

Popchyk · 26/05/2019 09:33

Presumably not one of the adults in that room even asked if, with everyone at the school pretending that the boy is a girl, that this is actually A GOOD THING for the child in question.

Or whether there might be many difficulties stored up in the future for this child by the action of the entire school pretending that the boy is a girl.

Or whether a child identifying as transgender is masking trauma, abuse, autism, or sexual orientation confusion. Nope. This must never be considered. All issues must be pinned on the transgender donkey and a brave and stunning future awaits. And they all lived happily ever after.

Seriously. How are these people not in prison?

FlibbertyGiblets · 26/05/2019 09:33

Caro that final statement from the trainer is chilling. Made me shiver.

EverardDigby · 26/05/2019 09:34

Gasp0de The £16k is for 3 days a week, £24k full time. I'd say that's not a lot for a regional voluntary sector job (though not sure what geography they'll cover) but fairly standard for a local charity role, many pay less for development / support workers.

AncientLights · 26/05/2019 09:40

"You are all now honorary Mermaids, whether you want to be or not" WHAT???????

(From the short video with the vicar governor)

Zeugma · 26/05/2019 09:42

AnyOldPrion yes, I did note that bit. But overall there's a very nasty stench of the one dissenter (the 'troublemaker') being pressured to shut up and stop making waves - which seems to be the group mentality. And there's definitely one man effusively thanking the trainer. Thanking her - the absolute lunacy of it.

Nobody else there is speaking up for science, biology, the law as it actually stands or.....well, reality, that's for sure.

NeurotrashWarrior · 26/05/2019 09:44

It gets worse:

http://www.truthandtails.com/books/vincent-the-vixen/

"Truth and tails"

Vincent is a boy fox who loves to play dress up with their brothers and sisters, but when they always choose to dress up as female characters, Vincent’s siblings begin to wonder why.

Vincent comes to realise that they are actually a girl fox, and with the support of friends and family they transition to living as their true self. This is the story of one fox’s journey torealising their gender identity and the importance of being who you are.

“This is a wonderful children’s book. A really useful resource for discussing Diversity, and Gender Identity with Young People. A definite must-read for anyone discussing Diversity, Gender, or LGBT issues.”

Any organisation having Mermaids train them should only accept on the basis that they build in at least half an hour for questions.

Jan didn't want to answer questions and used all sorts of excuses including, iirc, time constraints.

Mermaids needs to give out handouts to back up what they say (not books about pink dressing woodland animals). Citing the law the claim makes sex segregation illegal.

If they believe they can withstand scrutiny, then let's have it.

Datun · 26/05/2019 09:45

*they claim

JustAnotherWoman · 26/05/2019 09:45

Well done Rev Parker, for standing up for children

Sexnotgender · 26/05/2019 09:45

That amazon review 😱

NeurotrashWarrior · 26/05/2019 09:46

Vincent's siblings should have been given the talk not to be so silly and it's just clothes, don't pick on him, time to do your homework.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 26/05/2019 09:46

The more this is on the open - and people who disagree not told to shit up - then the more people will be able to make decisions regarding the desirability of these people having access to children. Especially the whole ‘we don’t have to tell your parents anything’.

What’s one of the first things we tell our children - ‘never keep secrets - and any adult who tells you to do this is up to no good so squeal to mum and dad like a piggy’

SarahTancredi · 26/05/2019 09:47

Wtf did I just listen toShock

We've seen/heard this before though haven't we. As soon as anyone mentions anything they are told to stop being so academic or to send in their question etc

They have no answers to anything do they. If they did they would listen and answer and show their source. Instead they get hostile and refuse to speak to people.

How the fuck do teachers or anyone really listen to this and believe it?

boatyardblues · 26/05/2019 09:47

There are a lot of DM BTL commenters agog that a child of 8 is being transitioned and appalled by it. Once the public catch on to what’s happening to GNC children, there will be a massive outcry.

NeurotrashWarrior · 26/05/2019 09:54

From that website, the irony is that Carlos the Chameleon and Molly the Mole are all about self acceptance and not changing yourself in order to fit in.

When the other animals find out that Carlos has been changing his colours in order to fit in, they reassure him that his own colour is beautiful and that he doesn’t need to change who he is to be accepted and loved by his friends.

*A Story to Help Children Build Self-Esteem
Molly is a mole with many friends, including a deer, a butterfly, and an owl. Sometimes Molly feels sad because she doesn’t look the same as her friends, and feels very different to them. By helping each of them out with a task, Molly learns that her friends love her for the amazing qualities that are unique just to her.

Molly the Mole addresses the difference between the way we perceive ourselves and the way our friends and family perceive us. Molly learns the importance of being kind and patient with others, and that everyone is special in their own way.*

Vincent's parents need to read those books to his sibling pdq.

myfoolishnotion · 26/05/2019 09:56

I know John's wife pretty well, and I'm gutted for them. I haven't spoken to her yet, but in general resigning from the Church of England is not just a matter of looking around for another job in your area. It's having to leave your home, pull your kids out of school, leave friends and a community that you have poured yourself into, and look for a church job in another denomination or Christian organisation or for secular employment, when you probably last had a secular job 20-25 years ago. It's a huge thing to do. I'm full of admiration for him taking a stand on this.

aprilviolets · 26/05/2019 09:56

this will continue as long as they get funding and as long as they're allowed to go into school and as long as we have an Emperors New Clothes approach and TWAW without using a single brain cell.
The process of social or physical transition should be a long process of exploration with counselling which allows the child to explore what they're experiencing and not an exercise in railroading them down a one way street to life long dependance on drugs. An affirmation only approach means that children with ASD, history of abuse and trauma and anxiety about their sexuality will be totally ignored and deemed irrelevant.

jellyfrizz · 26/05/2019 09:57

If you get a what if? which you will, just replace one protected characteristic with another and ask yourself the question again. So what would happen if you said ‘you can’t use those toilets because you’re Jewish?

This just makes no sense, they are not being denied access to those toilets because of their gender status, or any other protected characteristic. They are being denied access because of their sex.

The toilets are segregated by sex, not any other protected characteristic.

Justhadathought · 26/05/2019 09:57

John Parker knew his stuff; that's why they were trying so hard to shut him down

...and also because they are surely aware that they don't really know their stuff.

I used to be a teacher, and it remains true that most people just want to belong to the 'in' or established group; and will happily sacrifice individual integrity in order to be so. I've seen staff wilfully over-look, ignore or fail to report child safeguarding concerns or issues on numerous occasions. And many teachers are not particularly academic ( listen to the Mail tape recording for evidence).
