Does anyone worry about being sacked over Trans debate?

Just wondered if any of the feminists here worry they could be sacked for talking on social media about transgender issues? And can women do anything to mitigate against this happening?

Nope, but I’m a self employed pet daycare/boarding provider and my dog guests aren’t ‘woke’, so they can still tell the difference between men and women. Imagine that, dogs have more intelligence than woke humans! 😁

terfsandwich · 10/05/2019 03:22

Yes, absolutely. I would be unemployable. Teacher.

50shadesofgreyrock · 10/05/2019 03:24

Yes. Of course. The only reliable preventative is not to ever have your real name associated with a belief in biology.
Bleak.

WeShouldBeFriends · 10/05/2019 03:33

Definitely. NHS here Sad

I was listening to a podcast about the all-female, anti-poaching squad, the Akashinga, in Zimbabwe. A really interesting observation was that while it’s common for male rangers to be charged by wild animals, (such as the tragic case of the young man killed by a elephant earlier this week), it didn’t happen to female rangers.

They theorise that since poachers are male, wild animals can tell the difference between armed men and armed women, even when the rangers wearing identical clothing.

Sorry, just an interesting aside.

No but I care for my gran with dementia, She is certainly not "woke" I do worry for her in the future what will constitute a female home Carer /care home worker. She won't even let close male relatives (like her son) help her to bed. It's her choice and she's entitled to it.

I really feel for anyone who's job would be at risk the latest case I've read about is shocking.

TheRedBarrows · 10/05/2019 04:19

Yes. It would bring a storm down on my organisation, too.

I am trying to find an exit strategy because the feeling of being gagged, dishonest and the loss of free speech is disturbing my mental health.

isabellerossignol · 10/05/2019 04:30

Yes, I do. I work in the public sector and I have a trans colleague who is, frankly, intimidating. Our 'trans guidance' means that if I were observed to deliberately avoid using the ladies toilets at the same time as him (which I do, because he is creepy) I could theoretically be disciplined.

emotionalaffair · 10/05/2019 05:20

I was at a cpd event recently for my profession and there was a discussion about whether an offensive social media post should be a disciplinary offence. The conclusion was that it would be. It made me think of the trans debate and who would be deciding what constituted offense.

Clearly I won't be testing that out.

TinDogTavern · 10/05/2019 05:32

Yes, I do. Work in a Students' Union. Okay at the moment as issue hasn't really been "pushed" like it has in some, but with the woman who put out that hateful material about "Terf ideology" now elected to senior role at NUS I worry about the future.

Orchidoptic · 10/05/2019 06:16

Not yet. I’ve worn my jumper to work and I argued with the company about whether gender is a protected characteristic. I know that I am being watched, though.

OVAgroundWOMBlingfree · 10/05/2019 06:48

I do. Also NHS.

Trousering · 10/05/2019 06:59

No, I work in HR at a University. I've already asked the D&I team to remove gender identity from policies and they did.

I deleted twitter as it is too horrible to bother with.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 10/05/2019 07:03

I think I'd be in for a lot of "'re-education"

Its interesting watching the doxing accounts on Facebook. They try to cause shit for women over the most banal statements. I wonder how much impact they really make with their deluded stalking. Men should really leave women alone. Creeps

eurochick · 10/05/2019 07:07

Yes. I have tried to make some gentle gender critical points at work (I feel duty bound as a member of our women's group) but I'm extremely cautious. It's absurd that I need to hide views based on biology and women's rights but that's the environment we are living in.

Jen224 · 10/05/2019 07:16

I work for a global technology firm who are very woke. They would likely fire me for SM posts or stating any gender critical view at work.

justicewomen · 10/05/2019 07:32

On social media I am hearing about people having problems at work now for this most days. It is aggravated and whipped up by hyperbolic allegations by the accusers ("literally denying my existence" complaints to reaction to mild reference to biology or support for single sex facilities) which risk the employers overreacting to legitimate and mild social media use. Hopefully we will get some ET decision(s) that show GC feminism (obviously without clear harassment or hate crime) is a protected belief.

I was doxxed in real life but my employers were actually supportive (but that is because they know me well)

AnyFucker · 10/05/2019 07:36

Absolutely, yes

Theonewithabanyinasling · 10/05/2019 07:43

It's the spectre of complaints to my professional regulator that haunts me. My managers are engaged with reality (if not actively gc) and would listen to my side of the story. Not so sure about my regulator. Also NHS.

moonrises · 10/05/2019 07:47

Theone I agree, work less of an issue than professional regulator.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 10/05/2019 07:55

No. I work in a pretty unwoke environment. However it's the sort of unwoke which also means 'what men want is more important than women's rights'. It's probably a matter of time until a colleague transitions (IT), and then life will get tricky.

teawamutu · 10/05/2019 07:59

Uh huh. Not that the actual people are esp woke (in fact all the women I know appear to be quietly GC) but if we were seen to be...

Lamaha · 10/05/2019 08:12

No, because I'm retired, and even in my last job it would be OK because it was a German hospital and people there do know the difference between male and female and Germany on the whole has not caught up with the woke generation.

BUT -- I have another quite public life and career and for the moment I have to keep my head down because if I were to out myself as GC I'd have a Twitter mob after me and I could do without that at this stage of my professional life. It's a thing.

Genderfreelass · 10/05/2019 08:17

Yes, especially as biology is now hate speech, which could be considered gross misconduct to instant dismissal.

ArcheryAnnie · 10/05/2019 08:52

I do worry about it, because IRL I am in a job where I am openly known to be gender-critical, and the organisation has gone full woke. I don't have any savings, and I am at the time in my life where job hunting becomes increasingly difficult. Losing my job would mean real hardship for me, and it's a real possibility.

But fuck that. I am terrified of the risk, but after tip-toeing around for so long, I find myself also at a point in my life where I just can't keep quiet about this. If they do sack me, they will have a wonderful opportunity to find out just how much trouble I can be. (But yes, I'll be utterly screwed.)
