Does anyone worry about being sacked over Trans debate?

Just wondered if any of the feminists here worry they could be sacked for talking on social media about transgender issues? And can women do anything to mitigate against this happening?

Yes. I am openly GC in my office, as are my colleagues, however, due to the nature of our role/s there'd be a scandal of sorts and working with colleagues across the organisation would be nigh on impossible.

HashtagLurky · 11/05/2019 08:21

Yes. Teacher. Hence locked down on Twitter and obsessively anonymous online. I've already had a kid equate my radical feminism with being a T* in a casual chat about social media.

MyCatHogsTheBed · 11/05/2019 08:35

I worry. I work in the public sector. Mumsnet is the only place online that I am GC. I name change regularly. My workplace is very "woke" (but only on lgbt issues). I'm not GC in person at work. I daren't even follow anybody controversial on twitter or Facebook. As far as my voice goes, I'm already silenced. Sad I'm dreading certain changes coming up at work soon; I want to be honest about what I think of them, have an honest calm and healthy discussion about it but I'm certain the repercussions would be long lasting.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 11/05/2019 08:54

I would love to be in work, but I'm too old and sick. However it does mean I can be openly gender critical and promote radfem ideas. I speak up because other women can't.

No however I don;t have a job that would typically put me in danger of this. My mother works for the NHS, looking after people with dementia, and says behind closed doors all the staff agree (of course they would, given they have first hand experience of working with people who are vulnerable..) that gender ideology is all bollocks, but they dare not ever speak up because apparently, one woman was fired not too long ago for a facebook post arguing for same sex wards to actually be same sex rather than 'gender segregated' which is obviously stupid as a bar for segregation, noone gives a shit about stereotypes, its sex.

Its absolutely shocking that professionals are being silenced in such a way. Especially frontline staff who know how much damage having men in womens areas would do to their patients..

I am cautiously trying to nudge people in the sane direction. Like many organisations, we are aligned with Stonewall. I recently contacted our head of diversity pointing out that while Stonewall has done good work in the past, it is becoming a controversial organisation in relation to women's and lesbian rights, and followed up with some articles. She responded positively and the Rights clash is now firmly on her radar. As head of diversity, she has both our lgbt and women's groups under her remit. I'd be shocked if she were not GC in her personal views - she's an older, forthright woman with strong feminist views. A small step in the right direction, but it's worrying that as a senior woman in my organisation I don't feel able to tackle the subject more directly.

VickyEadie · 11/05/2019 22:13

Am retired but work on a freelance and consultancy basis now. If my views became known and I no longer got work it wouldn't matter financially, but the concern for me is how prevalent this Orwellian oppression actually is.

Stuart Paterson has been dropped by his publisher who has labelled him a bigot. Stuart is Joan McAlpine's partner

ArgyMargy · 12/05/2019 07:53

@Evorel123 your discomfort with what? The fact that you were perfectly happy with your colleague until you found out she is (allegedly) transgender? Do you realise how bigoted that makes you?

MaybeDoctor · 12/05/2019 08:12

It hasn’t come up for me yet, although I had a fairly guarded conversation with a couple of younger female colleagues. It cropped up naturally one day, when the office was quiet.

I would be willing to challenge it if needed, but it would have to be very clear cut for me to put my head above the parapet.

S1naidSucks · 12/05/2019 08:21

I agree with you ArgyMargy. Mind you, it’s only OP’s second post and he was advising GC feminists to go after trans sympathetic doctors and such. Either ignorant to what GC females want or a GF.

needmorespace · 12/05/2019 08:32

I am very cautious at work. Public sector. Holding a trans/intersex awareness week shortly to get the message across that everyone has the right to live life as their true self.
I want to scream that intersex is not the same and how dare the two be conflated but I can't afford to put my head above the parapet.
I do have conversations with others at work and most people are in agreement or completely unaware of what is happening and shocked when I highlight some the self-id issues. But I would be very careful who I discuss with.
If someone uses the word 'gender' though in conversation, I immediately correct them by saying 'sex'. Just a tiny tiny way of getting the point across in a woke organisation.

ThePurportedDoctoress · 12/05/2019 08:47

need Interesting - and worrying - to hear that the intersex/trans conflation strategy is being rolled out in the public sector.

bebanjo · 12/05/2019 09:36

Interesting how a women being intemidated by a biological male is ' pathetic ' but a biological male stating they cannot use facilitys for men because 'it's not safe' are to be taken seriously.

Yes indeed. Women, know your place.

ArgyMargy · 12/05/2019 09:57

Ah ok thanks @S1naidSucks

Gingerkittykat · 12/05/2019 21:12

@ArgyMargy Eddie Izzard uses female toilets because he does not want to face abuse from men, why is it ok for him but not ok for women to not want to share a bathroom space with men?

I've stayed out of the trans debate in a professional setting, but I do worry about one older woman who has expressed her dismay and what would happen if someone made a complaint. A couple of people do disagree with the whole trans ideology but have been sensible enough to not voice it publicly.

Kilbranan · 12/05/2019 21:54

Yes I do worry. NHS. We would lose our house if I lost my job. However i have posted gc stuff on a large nhs fb group I am on as it’s actually pretty straight forward to point out all the harms of transing kids and ignoring biological sex in adults. It’s not a popular opinion but because other prominent people such as Margaret McCarthy have already written about their concerns it’s easier for me to express similar opinions. And plus it’s so essential that doctors are aware of the negative aspects of affirmation that sometimes I can’t help myself. So many people are completely unaware of the issues eg high numbers of girls with autism developing ROGD while they blithely denounce me for being a bigot Confused
