Scotsman article here

So far they have been firm re. protecting freedom of speech, but the pressure is escalating and will continue, and they will keep a close eye on the balance of negative/positive correspondence.

The event details are here.

If any of you could write in support of the event the key recipients would be the head of the School of Education Prof. Rowena Arshad ([email protected]) and the Principal Prof. Peter Mathieson ([email protected]).

I hope the police reach out the ‘Cathy’ and let they talk about the incident.

I was pondering this and other attacks in the early hours... with the rise of social media and the fact that almost everyone has a recording devices welded to their hands... has society got more violent or is violence more ‘accepted’?

Lassoffyvie, if you witnessed an assault against someone and you feel it was because she is a lesbian you can report using the 3rd party reporting form on the police Scotland website. Witnesses can report - it doesn't have to be the person the assault was directed towards.

There was someone who looked quite similar to towntattle sitting beside the red haired person who set off the stink bombs and I didn't notice them there when the event finished. Near the back on the right for those sitting in the crowd

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 06/06/2019 07:26

It surely sounds like breach of the peace if yelling and invective was involved.

Chrysanthemum5 · 06/06/2019 07:28

@ApplePenPineapplePen I've sent you a PM not sure if you'll see that if you're on the app?

LassOfFyvie · 06/06/2019 07:35

I didn't witness an assault. I heard someone shouting and swearing. There was nothing in what was said which had anything to do with anyone being a lesbian.

Btw I wasn't at the talk , I just happened to be parking there.

Can I ask a stupid question? I am not used to Twitter at all. How is it decided what the 'Top Tweets' are? If you search SexBasedRightsEd, they are disproportionately authored by TRA types, and I can't see why...
TIA. :)

At least in E&W, common assault doesn’t need to involve physical contact to be assault, verbal threats/aggression/intimidation where the victim feels in danger is just as much assault as pushing/shoving/hitting is. Don’t know if Scottish law is similar.

Anyway, as a member of the public you don’t have to be certain if it was assault (or any other offence) or not, or why the assailant was doing what they were doing, you can just report what you saw and the police decide if there is evidence for charging with an offence.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 06/06/2019 12:35

Hate crime could be breach of the peace or yelling insults at somebody as well as physical contact

It's any crime that has a hate element.

I will not be reporting anything. If Julie or Rosa want to report it there were at least 3 members of university security staff and the taxi driver , all of whom can be identified, and who had a much better view of what was going on than I had.

EverardDigby · 06/06/2019 12:51

Stink bombs? Are they 8 years' old?

ApplePenPineapplePen · 06/06/2019 14:42

@Chrysanthemum5 got it thanks!

So pleased I attended. Great speakers and friendly people that I met and spoke with afterwards. I learned a lot.

Cwenthryth · 06/06/2019 14:52

🤷🏻‍♀️ up to you, Lass, I was just making the point that you didn’t need to be sure about what you saw to report it and potentially assist.

It sounds like there’s no confirmation so far that the incident has been reported to the police at all? I understand Julie Bindel is travelling today so there might be a wait until anything happens.

Butchyrestingface · 06/06/2019 15:07

Incident has been reported in the Edinburgh press. JB apparently considering reporting to the police.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 06/06/2019 16:04

A mealy-mouthed report of this was in today’s evening standard too (which is actually quite good for them).

Nephilim1964 · 06/06/2019 16:21

Don't worry. Diane Abbott was on hand to offer sympathy Hmm

Outanabout · 06/06/2019 16:59

Nephilim, as Diane Abbott is the victim of an appalling amount of hate and trolling I'm sure she does have fellow-feeling for others who are suffering.

Nephilim1964 · 06/06/2019 17:41

I'm not saying that she doesn't. I'm fully aware of the vitriol that Diane gets and totally condemn it. What I'm saying is that her political party has been complicit in what is happening to feminists and women in general.

The SJWs have been given carte blanche to believe that they're in the right because their behaviour has not been addressed. People like Lily Madigan for instance have been given positions reserved for women simply because of 'feelz' and it's utterly appalling the way they're allowed to get with the amount of abuse against anybody who disagrees with them, including those in their own party who dare to question the TWAW narrative. And this is what happens, women are attacked just like Julie was. It took 3 security guards to hold him the attacker back. Imagine if they hadn't been there.

Abbott herself attended a fundraiser for Action for Health who advocate giving cross-sex hormones to children. She claims she didn't know what they represented, but as they say, ignorance is no defence. Imagine the kind of message that sends to transactivists and their ilk.

Sorry, didn't refresh, I see you have seen it.

Thank you for share token. I don’t think that that Times article captures all the issues here at all.
