MN have deleted the thread started by Maya - who lost her job for speaking up for women- because it talks about her crowdfunding for legal costs

Here is today's times article on the case https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/tax-expert-fired-for-saying-trans-women-aren-t-women-tpqgnm9vj?shareToken=3f12f5cae61c02fd41040eb816fd37b4&wgu=2705255426441557045162977940f0d76fa1&wgexpiry=1564821162&utmmsource=planit&utmmedium=affiliate&utmm_content=22278

It looks like Madigan has lost it. Someone from Labour needs to intervene. It reflects badly on the party.

Thingybob · 06/05/2019 22:15

Can I just say...this thread is meant to be about Maya and I am worried it’s getting derailed

It also makes for very uncomfortable reading so please can we stick to a talking about the very smart, brave, dignified and respectful person that is Maya.

FloralBunting · 06/05/2019 22:44

Maya, Maya, Maya!

Women, girls, females, them as 'ave vaginas.

Let's please stop giving oxygen to wind up merchants who are none of the above. Cheers.

littlbrowndog · 06/05/2019 22:46

Yeah but that person told maya to fuck off. She raised it herself on twitter.

It’s relevant as shows what happens to a woman

FloralBunting · 06/05/2019 23:00

Yeah, but said pointless individual is microscopic on the scale of importance and a legend in their own imagination, and dislikes nothing so much as not inserting themselves into the centre of attention.

If we are going to discuss irrelevancies that are connected to Maya, let's at least enjoy sometime on that brilliant piece of product placement with Magic Grandad.

Absolutepowercorrupts · 06/05/2019 23:09

It's relevant now because of Madigan's disgusting tweet. As the Labour Party support Madigan they are complicit in the erasure of Women. These threads of support sometimes take a turn that may not be helpful to the main issue. Most posters deal with it and don't tell others what to post and attempt to police others.
I'm just here looking to support Maya and to cheer her on for making the stand that she has.

OccasionalKite · 06/05/2019 23:24

Flowers to Maya Forstater.

I wish you the very best of luck.

So good to see this level of support for you, it's impressive, and so reassuring.

Thank you, Maya Forstater

FloralBunting · 06/05/2019 23:25

Yeah, but some people have inexplicable special sway in getting deletions - I think if we can be extra and specially cautious about not mentioning THE THING, we can probably manage not to accidently make the thread Swiss cheese because of that inexplicable sway in deletion requests.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 06/05/2019 23:31

I agree floral

Its like looking in a mirror and saying 'candyman' three times

Angryresister · 06/05/2019 23:32

RedBarrows Did the email but turns out she no longer works for the Labour Party. Will repost to relevante person.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 06/05/2019 23:35

Looks like Lily has had her (massive) knuckles rapped...

twitter.com/realLilyMadigan/status/1125525761673371649

Lily can tell Mya to fuck off because Jess Phillips tells a heap of people to fuck off.

Right.

Datun · 07/05/2019 00:36

Lily, a woman's officer, said it was good a woman was sacked and she should go fuck herself.

Spinning it as similar to Jess Phillips saying fuck off doesn't come anywhere near to addressing their aggression and misogyny.

PencilsInSpace · 07/05/2019 01:01

Prawnofthepatriarchy - What would happen if Maya's employer caves and offers her her job back?

It's not usual for anyone to return to work for an employer after a tribunal, it's generally accepted that the working relationship has irretrievably broken down by this stage. If she was pushed to accept this she could claim constructive dismissal - this is where your employer makes it effectively impossible to continue in your job even if you haven't actually been sacked.

MissEyre - Am I right in thinking that Maya isn't an employee and thus has to claim discrimination rather than unfair dismissal? (a bit rusty on this stuff).

She is/was an employee on a fixed term contract. She has the same rights to claim unfair dismissal as any other employee and as she was there for over 2 years she can do so.

(not even a pretend lawyer)

Floisme · 07/05/2019 07:41

I don't normally mention Madigan for all the reasons given here but I do think it's interesting that they talk about Jess Phillips as being shit with trans politics. That's after all Jess' ducking and diving and wriggling and Christ wasn't she even on That Committee with Maria Miller?

It doesn't matter how much of a trans ally you try to be, nothing you do is ever enough.

Which is why Maya's case is so important.

TheRedBarrows · 07/05/2019 08:01

AngerResister Thank you so much. Could you post details for the correct person please? As another poster also wants to write.

Interesting that the LP commitment to women’s equality is so high that they keep the contact details up to date.... not.

Sorry if this seems a de-rail from Maya’s fight. I think alerting our major parties to what is going on is important. This case is going to be THE most important in setting a precedent and the political parties need to sit up and take notice, lest they find themselves on the wrong side if the legal curve. The suppression of free speech, the tacit agreement that some women are more equal than others in the constant amplification of the Trans voice over GC voice , are all contained in the storm in a toxic teacup that is LM’s Twitter.

All the political parties have ground to make up in supporting women’s rights, and now is the time.

FloralBunting · 07/05/2019 08:51

To be clear, obviously the behaviour in response to Maya's case is relevant - all I'm saying is let's be aware of how much pigs enjoy rolling in mud, and how eager some of them are to drag you into it, and so be careful about how we reference the specific attention seeking.

Yes, some Twitter feeds are perfect little microcosms of the unthinking, abusive bullshit we've been talking about. Some of them are owned by people who would be banned in a heartbeat here for being totally GFs.

LangCleg · 07/05/2019 09:21

Don't give a single, solitary, shiny shit what Madigan says or does.

Do give many, jolly, hugely satisfying shits that Maya is being so wonderfully supported by so many women and also a good number of men.

Joisanofthedales · 07/05/2019 09:37

If you read the comments on the thing we must not mention, Lily Madigan is responsible for lots of women offering support, often for a second time (this includes me and this time I even gave my name).

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 07/05/2019 09:46

Regarding Jess Phillips, YY to this

It doesn't matter how much of a trans ally you try to be, nothing you do is ever enough

As far as I know all she’s done is not flaccidly parrot TWAW

And that translates into being shit about trans issues

Pay attention politicians. Nothing will ever be enough.

ILuvBirdsEye · 07/05/2019 09:57

Just donated again. Thanks Lily xx

But Maya... you rock Flowers

Angryresister · 07/05/2019 10:02

RedBarrows Please contact Sheri-Ann at [email protected] for any enquiries relating to the Bernie Grant Leadership Programme and women.
For all other queries please contact Sean Orrick at [email protected].
Apologies for derail

loveyouradvice · 07/05/2019 12:22

FiredMaya you are magnificent - thank you for standing up for women, all women.

Absolutely this is an incredibly important case and what I love is that there are many women, including me, who have supported it financially and who will give again (and again) if costs rise and you need it.

Thank you

MissEyre · 07/05/2019 13:09

"And yes Misseyre its discrimination not unfair dismissal"

Thanks for the clarification. So whether or not a binding precedent is set about Equality Act (and I think that would only happen if this was appealed up to a higher court by the losing party) it won't create an authority on the issue of unfair dismissal.

Just getting my head round what it is and isn't about.

Best wishes, thanks for bringing the case, I've no doubt it's a complete nightmare.
Miss Eyre

Melroses · 07/05/2019 13:17

Can't be Rsed with the nonentity...…………

but really pleased to see over 55K supports in place for Maya's work.

The legal system takes a lot of getting one's head around. I think it has to go right to the top to set legal precedent, but if something is demonstrably within the law, is that necessary?

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 07/05/2019 13:34

I find it really scary that you need £60k for an employment tribunal

What chance does a boring old adult human female who finds her job mysteriously gone after she has a baby stand of challenging it?
