MN have deleted the thread started by Maya - who lost her job for speaking up for women- because it talks about her crowdfunding for legal costs

Here is today's times article on the case https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/tax-expert-fired-for-saying-trans-women-aren-t-women-tpqgnm9vj?shareToken=3f12f5cae61c02fd41040eb816fd37b4&wgu=2705255426441557045162977940f0d76fa1&wgexpiry=1564821162&utmmsource=planit&utmmedium=affiliate&utmm_content=22278

AngryResister you beat me to it. I'm retired too and willing to challenge organisations in my own name. I used to work in local government, so know what it's like when one feels muzzled.

Because it really is about a lot more than her and her circumstances, important as they are. It’s about how free people are to express views and state facts theres already precedent beliefs are protected as long as it is a belief and not an opinion or viewpoint based on the present state of information;
the belief is genuinely held;
the belief concerns a “weighty” and substantial aspect of human life and behaviour;
it is “worthy of respect in a democratic society”; and
it is held with “sufficient cogency, seriousness, cohesion and importance”.

If Maya wins her case it will mean that every woman in the uk who is asked to share a workplace toilet with a male can object to it, without being sacked. It is hugely significant i agree with you women shouldnt be forced to share toilets with men but how would this case prove it one way or the other? and how can it be all women it wont be women at their employers less than 2 years

LangCleg · 06/05/2019 17:33

Five.

MissEyre · 06/05/2019 17:41

"nevertheless as a result of expressing my belief, in March this year I was told my appointment as a Visiting Fellow at CGD would not be renewed, even though I was named in a successful funding proposal for a two-year research project, building on the work I had been developing over the previous two and a half years working as part of the team at CGD"

Am I right in thinking that Maya isn't an employee and thus has to claim discrimination rather than unfair dismissal? (a bit rusty on this stuff).

Slater and Gordon are good in this area :)

Madigan reponds to criticisms of misogyny by doubling down with more "f*ck yourself" tweets.

If she was paid by them, had a contract and they had control over her to the extent that they could ask her to edit her social media, she was an employee or a worker.

Sexnotgender · 06/05/2019 19:50

Nearly 50k reasons Madigan can go fuck themselves.

bettybeans · 06/05/2019 20:16

Would love to hear about Madigan's record in role of Women's Officer. What they've actually achieved, or even just what they've been working on. Bet it makes fit fascinating reading. 🙄

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 06/05/2019 20:22

Bet it makes fit fascinating reading.

If brief. Grin

SarahTancredi · 06/05/2019 20:23

So brief it fitted in sharpie on their hand..

theOtherPamAyres · 06/05/2019 20:50

Nice bag!

Jezzer must have read, and noted the responses to, Maya's tribunal. It looks like he's concluded that maybe, just maybe, there must be something in all the kerfuffle about what makes a woman.

The photo is bound to result in some weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth in some quarters, in view of all the TRAs work to take down this factual piece of information.

Shock She's got the tote bag!
DpWm · 06/05/2019 21:14

When/where was that taken?

Michelleoftheresistance · 06/05/2019 21:15

Shock Bloody hell, he really is shameless isn't he?

dillydallyXX · 06/05/2019 21:17

well judging from the car crash that is Madigan's Twitter page, what they have done as Womens' Officer is drone on and on and on about "terfs", fill a bag full of sanitary products, and organise a weekly political discussion group about woke womens' issues.

Can I just say...this thread is meant to be about Maya and I am worried it’s getting derailed and talking about Labour Students and will therefore lose its purpose of supporting Maya. And it’s a great thread and I don’t want it to turn off other readers. Clearly I am not the thread police but I just wonder whether some of these ramifications could be discussed on a different/new thread?

FiredMaya · 06/05/2019 21:26

Awks Isn't it Grin

And i love the comments!

I feel like Maya’s point may have been admitted to here?

FiredMaya · 06/05/2019 21:34

And yes Misseyre its discrimination not unfair dismissal.

And yes as someone said upthread, for the employment tribunal usually each party bears their own costs.

SarahTancredi · 06/05/2019 21:41

repeal

Oops Grin

truthisarevolutionaryact · 06/05/2019 21:54

Great to see so many women and men supporting Maya. Flowers
