Re: defamation

Apparently they get about 5 complaints per week re:defamation. Someone (cough) really has nothing better to do 😂

NotTerfNorCis · 25/04/2019 13:11

Wow! Is it all the same person? Confused

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 25/04/2019 13:21

It’ll be a lot of the Instagram influencers I’d have thought

64sNewName · 25/04/2019 14:01

What was the programme?

Datun · 25/04/2019 14:03

Well, the upside will be that their legal skill set will be honed and refined to razor sharp status.

They will know exactly what does, and doesn't, constitute defamation and can now moderate accordingly. Eventually on autopilot.

moonrises · 25/04/2019 14:03

Is 5 actually that many?

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 25/04/2019 14:07

Sorry 64sNewName I didn't catch the start as I was out and about but did post whilst it was on air - I'll check when I'm home to see if it's online to listen to and add the link bere as I'd like to hear it all.

happydappy2 · 25/04/2019 14:09

Was just before 1pm news, ‘is that you & yours’ ?

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 25/04/2019 14:10

Quite Datun, MNHQ must have some SHL as MN has had more than its fair share of legal wranglings with public figures in its time.

Only 5? Makes you wonder how many kiwi farms gets then doesn’t it?

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 25/04/2019 14:46

Thank you happydappy2, made looking for it online much easier!

Blurb from BBC website link above:

We are often warned about posting on social media; that it offers no special protection in law if you are rude about or libel someone. Now a recent court case has underlined that there is no protection for individuals who make contentious comments. If it's suspected that they break the law the host will be forced to tell the authorities who you are and where to find you.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 25/04/2019 14:49

But death threats are ok as long as you don’t hurt someone’s feelings or disagree with them?

HollowTalk · 25/04/2019 14:51

Just listening to it now. Thanks for the link. It starts at 34:22.

TheInebriati · 25/04/2019 14:51

Being rude is terrible, much worse than wishing someone would die in, for example, a grease fire.

MeltedEggMum · 25/04/2019 15:01

Makes you wonder how many kiwi farms gets then doesn’t it?

My guess is zero.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 25/04/2019 15:12

Managed to finally listen to the full segment. How good was Rowan from MNHQ! 💪👏👏

OP posts:
Michelleoftheresistance · 25/04/2019 15:21

Bravo Rowan! Flowers

MNHQ must now be able to handle vexatious reports in their sleep.

boatyardblues · 25/04/2019 15:28

I heard it too & Rowan was good.

R0wantrees · 25/04/2019 15:34

You & Yours

from 34:10

TanteRose · 25/04/2019 15:44

That was interesting- thanks for posting about it and brava @RowanMumsnet

RowanMumsnet · 25/04/2019 15:51

Aw shucks - thanks

(The segment about insects directly before nearly had me revisiting my breakfast as I went on air)

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 25/04/2019 16:28

😂 Yeah heard that on reply a little to soon after having a cuppa 🤢

OP posts:
truthisarevolutionaryact · 25/04/2019 16:35

A really good and informative discussion with some timely reminders from Rowan, not only about free speech but also some of the reasons that so many women use Mumsnet and why confidentiality is critical for them.

weebarra · 25/04/2019 16:45

Just listen - and agree with Rowan about the insects. I thought she put across her points very well, especially about user confidentiality.

99point9FahrenheitDegrees · 25/04/2019 16:47

Kiwi Farms actually has a board devoted to legal challenges and defamation cases brought against them; they see them as even more point and laugh fodder. Very unlike the home life of our dear MNHQ.
