She's Jacqueline Wilson. I'm not sure she can be got at Grin. I think she's in an even stronger position than JK Rowling.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 23/04/2019 15:06

Well done JW. I agree about her focus on girls. Her characters are great role models.

SpringIsHereEarly · 23/04/2019 17:39

What is the Telegraph up to? OP's link now links to a different article Confused

EmpressLesbianInChair · 23/04/2019 17:56

The link in the OP is to whatever Apple News are featuring so hopefully that explains that. What about the links further in the thread?

ThinkIveFoundYourMarbles · 23/04/2019 18:13

I think I might have accidentally linked to two different articles - it was the first one that came up on my Apple News that I wanted to share. But the second also looks very interesting and relevant. Can't read it all as behind a paywall though...

I love Jacqueline Wilson.

Grew up reading her books.
She's exactly the kind of voice that's needed: compassionate, reasonable, sensible, respected, and often writes about characters who don't conform to stereotypes.

Most importantly, she is undoubtedly coming from a place of genuine concern for children, not one of homophobia or intolerance (the real kind).
So the inevitable accusations of bigotry that will come her way will look ridiculous to anyone with half a brain.

Jellybabiesarebabies · 23/04/2019 18:45

I think the telegraph have changed what the link points to.

LangCleg · 23/04/2019 18:54

I agree! Also, worth remembering she's not really anything to do with the Wokerati YA sector. She writes books for middle graders.

I think the telegraph have changed what the link points to.

They have, but it's archived here: archive.fo/cRsrS

MsTSwift · 23/04/2019 20:11

My two girls adored JW books she appeared at local book festival and filled a massive venue - every seat taken. She’s very popular with young girls

Jellybabiesarebabies · 23/04/2019 20:16

Thanks Betsy.

AbsintheFriends · 23/04/2019 22:01

The twitterati TRAs have got the pitchforks out for her. And the T**f branding iron.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 23/04/2019 22:12

oh, so what? Their numbers are nothing in comparison to JW’s fans and sales! Grin

LangCleg · 23/04/2019 22:51

Like, every single library in the land orders at least one copy of every book she publishes. She's teflon.

newtlover · 23/04/2019 22:57

Thank you, JW ! Please, please write a book about this

newtlover · 23/04/2019 22:59

Has Michael Rosen said anything on this issue? He normally speaks good sense, and is another very popular and respected children's author (are you out there, Michael? we need all the help we can get)

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 23/04/2019 23:00

While I’m sorry to see the Twitterati attacking JW, i also hope it will stop a few more sensible people in their tracks.

Of course, a writer of books for girls Isn’t important Hmm

FannyCann · 23/04/2019 23:17

Oh dear. The twitterati are very unhappy. Stay strong Jacqueline.

hipsterfun · 24/04/2019 01:16

Michael Rosen did a R4 Word of Mouth on language and gender identity last year.

The thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3167408-Word-of-Mouth-Radio-4-today-transgender

I don’t think he entirely buys in.

LizzieSiddal · 24/04/2019 06:50

My Dds queued for three hours to see her at a book signing. She always waits for every single child and signs their books.

She is awesome.

LizzieSiddal · 24/04/2019 07:00

JW has a new book out called “Dancing The Charleston”.

I’m going to buy it today to show my support for her.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 24/04/2019 07:22

And in the telegraph online today...

“The Duke of Sussex has offered his encouragement to a controversial charity supporting transgender children, as the Royal Foundation invites Mermaids to join its work on mental health.”

What a honking tit.

BettyDuMonde · 24/04/2019 08:13

Well, being trans isn’t a mental health condition, say Mermaids, so they should be politely declining the offer!

shins · 24/04/2019 08:44

I met her once with my daughter- it was a talk she was giving and we were early - she was just sitting in the foyer and we had a chat! Lovely, lovely woman. She is like a kindly sparkly witch, all elaborate rings and black sequins, my daughter was beyond starstruck. Good for her speaking out, she cares about children and understands them.
